WELL...
that time is almost here! We're gearing up to release Cy Yung's album: Soul Train Dancer: A Tribute To Rosie Perez...
for those who have been "hipped" to the album in its developmental stages, I thank you all for listening, supporting, and patiently waiting. It hasn't been an easy ride, but the destination is set in the gps and we're just a couple blocks away!
With the turn of events of the last couple months, I must make you all aware
I AM FULLY aware that Murs & Slug's FELT3 album title, as I get asked that question more and more as the release gets closer, as well as comments of the obvious as I've been actively checking the blogs & sites across de' world wide web for compliments as well as backlash on such a topic. Once again...
FULLY AWARE.
the link below will help shed some light on the topic at hand and i will be more than glad to explain our train of thought after the jump...
http://www.rockthedub.com/2009/08/what-about-rosie.htmlWhat the average consumer is not aware of, i am more than glad to explain... You see, the album in question has been in the works for over 4 years. Title and all intact since day one. While the concepts, ideas, and eventually the songs have changed over time, the intent to release the album has not. Sure there's been a few set backs over the years which kept us from releasing the album... that's all blessings in my book as its grown into quite the quality album over time.
more light to shed with this link here.... more explaination after the jump... bare with me folks!http://www.rockthedub.com/2008/06/cy-yung-dreamcatcher-revisited-cds.html
oh.. and our official explanation of the title at the time we released the single...http://bangthebox.net/2008/07/cy-yung-dreamcatcher-revisted-cds.htmlwe released the first single "Dreamcatcher: Revisited" in June of '08 with the intention of releasing the album itself sometime in the fall that year... but those wonderful set backs kinda put that out of the question. We searched for distribution n had two offers on the table from two reputable underground hip hop labels (no name dropping.. clues??? well, one based in Chicago, and the other based in Detroit) earlier this year... however another hand full of setbacks kept us from choosing a distributor let alone even finishing the album at that time.
So time goes by and the album gets put on the backburner until all the planets are aligned so to speak and right around the end of August is when myself and Cy were passed along the news that Murs & Slug decided to change the name of their album from Sarah Palin to Rosie Perez... Setback??? At first i thought so, but after a lengthy chat with one of my musical mentors, i kinda changed my tune.. no pun intended.
Long story short in that regard... he said it doesn't matter now...
JUST DROP THE ALBUM! From that day that is what we intended to do. All setbacks aside, its time to force the planets to align (which sometimes is a bad idea but worked out quite well in this case) and get this album out to the public (some of which have been waiting for this album for quite a while).
Bottom line, myself and Cy are fully aware of Felt3... more so than most of you will ever know. BUT we've stuck with the title for this long, and the title has meant much more than just some Actress' name we could exploit for her value or what'have you (once again, pointing out there is an actual underlying meaning to why we decided to name it), that we thought, why change it now? In a related topic, how many artists...more in general, hip hop artists named their album "The Blueprint"??? (no not 1,2 and 3.. but start with the first and back track to an album that was named Blueprint before the infamous release).... at the end of the day, its not about rivalries, competition, or "stolen ideas" (which im not saying it is!!!!)... its about sticking to what you believe in and delivering good music to the world.
Which we intend to do!
With that said, December 15th is right around the corner!!!!!!!!!!
Lets get it yall!
Peace n luv,
Slikk
