My name is Shawn Bernard. I go to Norquest College in Edmonton,Alberta. I'm in the Aboriginal Community Support Worker Program. I am the original founder of a Rap group that evolved into a nationwide gang but have been out of the gang for a few years now. I now use all of the negativity of my past to help youth and adults make positive choices when living and or dealing with high risk lifestyle situations. The most effective way in doing this is through my music and proving that I am living proof of how an ex-gang member,ex-alcoholic and ex-crackhead such as myself could overcome the struggles and obstacles of the streets and have a positive outcome through positive choices. I am currently -recording a  new CD that was funded by a professional recording grant I applied for and recieved from The Alberta Foundation for the Arts. In March/2006 I submitted a bio to Gerald Auger and The National Film Board of Canada,which was approved to shoot a gang redemption documentary called "Walking Alone" as part of a film called "First Stories". This film is finished and  made it's World Premiere in 2007 at the "Dreamspeakers Aboriginal Film Festival". The film was also nominated for awards at "The Alberta Motion Picture Industry Awards"in 2007 and "Reel to Reel" in Toronto as well and   aired on CBC and APTN on National Aboriginal Day on June 21/2007. In 2007 I was also nominated for " Best Rap Album 2007 " at The Canadian Aboriginal Music awards. These are just a few of the many accomplishments I have achieved with the help of the Creator by living a drug & alcohol free lifestyle for the past few years and I give thanx 4  the talents, food, shelter, and beautiful kids he has blessed me with ! I hope that through my workshops, presentations, performances and songs that I may be able to help, inspire or motivate someone to make positive choices like i have.Just 1 person making a change 4 the better makes Mother Earth a better place.
