Cuban blogger Yoani Sanchez detained, beaten on way to marchCuba's best-known blogger Yoani Sanchez said state security officials seized and assaulted her in an effort to block her participation in a march against violence.

Famed Cuban blogger Yoani Sanchez said Friday she and another blogger were punched and thrown violently into a car by presumed state security agents as they walked to participate in a peaceful march in downtown Havana.``No blood, but black and blues, punches, pulled hairs, blows to the head, kidneys, knee and chest,'' Sánchez told El Nuevo Herald shortly after she and Orlando Luis Pardo were freed. ``In sum, professional violence.''``I, being a person of verbal pacifism, am shaken by this violence, because violence silences anyone,'' the blogger declared in a telephone interview.Sánchez, the best-known Cuban blogger on the island and off, said she and bloggers Pardo and Claudia Cadelo and a woman friend were walking to join a ``march against violence'' organized by several young musicians when they were intercepted by three men in civilian clothes. Cuba's state security service agents frequently operate out of uniform.``We were almost there when we were intercepted by three men in a car with civilian license plates who ordered us to get in,'' she said. ``We refused. I didn't know if they were kidnappers. And the level of their violence went up.''Sánchez said they were near the Calixto Garcia hospital in downtown Havana when she and Pardo were ``dragged toward the car. She was ``thrown head-first inside,'' where ``they applied judo or karate holds to us and the punches . . . kept raining down.''During the fray, Sánchez continued, she grabbed a piece of paper from the pocket of one of the men and put it in her mouth.``I don't know, it was like saying to him, `I have something of yours. . . . He became even more furious and there were more blows.'''The paper, which she kept, contained a name and a telephone number. After driving for about 20 minutes, the driver stopped in an area far from where Sánchez and Pardo had been detained ``and we were violently thrown on the street,'' Sánchez said. The two later reunited with Cadelo and the friend, who told her they had been taken in another car to a police station, but with less violence, and were then freed, Sánchez said. The 5:30 demonstration was planned as ``a peaceful performance-march -- neither a protest nor a political demand'' organized by Luis Eligio of the musical group OMNI Zona Franca and the two members of the rap group Los Aldeanos, according to the blog Penultimos Días -- Penultimate Days.According to the blog, which features several writers, the demonstrators planned to carry cardboard signs with messages like ``Join us,'' ``No more violence'' and ``For the future of our children'' as they marched near the Yara movie house in downtown Havana.``These are new people, with stunning ingenuity,'' said Penultimos Días, which added that the organizers had carried out a prior event in the Dimitrov Park that included ``group fraternizing exercises . . . and group theater.''Asked if she believed her detention was designed to block her participation in the march, Sánchez said: ``Evidently. Anything else would be pure speculation.''The march, which Penultimos Días said drew some 200 participants, was the second demonstration in Havana in the past three weeks to bring together young Cubans generally critical of the island's communist system. On Oct. 20, a dozen Cuban bloggers and more than 100 Internet sites around the world joined in a ``virtual protest,'' using Tweets, text messages and blog posts to send out messages like ``Freedom'' and demanding the release of all political prisoners.

ALPHA 606 (Touchin’Bass / Interdimensional Transmissions / Miami) - STEL-R (Popzero/ Transeuropexpress / Brussels) – MANO SINISTRA & DJ SHO (Wax Club Brussels)

Pop Zéro @OPA

Minimal Techno House Electro Acid Nu Disco

"Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the
round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently --
they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them,
glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore
them because they change things... they push the human race
forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones,
we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough
to think that they can change the world,
are the ones who do."    Steve Jobs

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest.

Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.

Life does not consist mainly, or even largely, of facts and happenings. It consists mainly of the storm of thought that is forever flowing through one's head.

Gandhi's legacy of non-violent struggle vital in today's world – UN officials
Thurs. Oct. 02

The legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, whose non-violent struggle led to an independent India and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom around the globe, is vital in today's world where the rights of too many people are still violated, top United Nations officials said today.

Marking the second annual International Day of Non-violence, observed on 2 October in honour of Gandhi's birthday, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon noted that this year's celebration falls during the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

"There is a profound philosophical connection between the fundamental principles of human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration and those practised by Mahatma Gandhi," Mr. Ban told a ceremony at UN Headquarters in New York.

"The answer for Mahatma Gandhi was always found in action… The rest of us can seek to emulate his spirit only by practising the tenets of non-violence, justice and peace." the answer for Mahatma Gandhi was always found in action… The rest of us can seek to emulate his spirit only by practising the tenets of non-violence, justice and peace

Mr. Ban highlighted the need to ensure that the rights in the Declaration are a living reality, that they are known, understood and enjoyed by everyone, everywhere. However, it is often that those who most need their human rights protected also need to be informed that the Declaration exists – and that it exists for them, he said.

"The rights of too many people around the world are still violated. That is why the Mahatma's legacy is more important than ever," the Secretary-General stated.

General Assembly President Miguel D'Escoto recalled that Martin Luther King, Jr. followed Gandhi's teachings during the civil rights struggle in the United States, revealing the power of non-violence "to begin to transform the course of even the most powerful nation in history."

Mr. D'Escoto suggested that today people around the world adopt the word Satyagraha – the Sanskrit word describing Gandhi's philosophy of non-violent resistance – and begin to reflect on its meaning.

"If we do so, we will have entered into the process of liberating humankind from its dependence on violence as a means to resolve differences," he stated.

Number: TB 35
Artist: Andrea Parker feat. DJ Assault and DJ Godfather
Title: Freaky Bitches Remixes (First Installment)
Release Date: May 27, 2008
Format: 12" EP/Download
In print: No

Tracks:
A1. Alpha 606 Perreta Remix
A2. Kero Remix
B1. The Wee DJs Touchin' Boobs Remix
B2. ED Devane Tricked Out Remix

Hot on the heels of Bitstream's 'The Severed EP', Touchin' Bass continues its 2008 schedule with the first instalment of remixes of a Touchin' Bass classic.

Andrea Parker's 'Freaky Bitches', a collaboration with Detroit innovators DJ Assault and DJ Godfather was the first release to launch the label. Now 'Freaky Bitches' gets worked-over from four heavyweights of today's bass scene.

Miami's Alpha 606 is the first to step up to the challenge with his Perreta Remix. Starting off dark and brooding, the electro beats are interwoven with live drum patterns, percussion and old skool synths, before the stripped breakdown showcases his signature Cuban influenced style, pressing all the right buttons for the dancefloor.

Kero is next up to the podium with a squelching, relentless monster to finish off the A side. With over 20 releases on established labels like Ghostly, and Shitkatapult, as well as his own Detroit Underground Records it's no surprise that Kero delivers the goods. His remix chops up the original elements in fine style, where squeaking bleeps and bursts flow over the deepest bass.

We're back in Europe for the B side with Edinburgh's weedjs and Irish born Ed Devane. First theweedjs Touchin' Boobs Remix boasts a massive sub bass under resonating frequencies with mashed up beats true weedjs style. Just slam this down to tear the dance floor apart, leaving them confused and begging for more.

Then just when you thought it couldn't get any more twisted, Ed Devane presents his Tricked Out Remix. This is electronic experimentation at it's finest. Cut up and spliced into a sonic waterfall, Ed tears it apart in a way you can no longer tell what it is. This is fantastically unpredictable to the end.

Look out for the next instalment of 'Freaky Bitches' remixes coming soon!

Andrea Parker Feat. DJ Assault & DJ Godfather 'Freaky Bitches Remix (First Installment)'
(Touchin' Bass)

This was the track which declared Andrea Parker's Touchin' Bass well and truly open for serious business in 2002, intriguingly seeing the London B-girl techno maverick hooking up with Detroit ghetto-tech masters DJs Assault and Godfather. There was a surge of interest in Motor City booty-bass at the time and this lascivious beauty became an anthem to drag it humping and sweating into European club culture. Now it's back with a bevy of high-tensile remixes. Miami's Alpha 606 kicks off with another new mutant which boosts the spaced acid-electro with live latin percussion to roof-raising effect. Kero from Detroit Underground Records pumps the bass for a rectal boomer while Edinburgh's Weedjs pleasure a gaggle of scary monsters in their subtly-titled Touchin' Boobs mix. Ireland's Ed Devane rips into the track emerging with a kicking, screaming drum 'n' bass-tinged sphincter-shredder. Supreme punk-electro [not the other way round] and it's only the first instalment.

FREAKY BITCHES REMIXES (FIRST INSTALLMENT)
TOUCHIN' BASS (TB035)

'Freaky Bitches' was the origonal Touchin' Bass release and the classic cut gets four remixes on the first installment package, with some real
interesting, and as you'd expect from the label, bass heavy and experimentalversions.

Kicking off, Alpha 606's 'Perrata' version mixes old school analogue sounds
with the vox, complimented by some mighty fine tasty live tribal percussion, while Kero goes a little darker with more of a rudeboy electro bass vibe.

Flippin' over and we have The Weed DJs 'Touchin' Boobs' mix which is up
tempo dancefloor electro with some schizoid twists and turns, while not
wanting to be outdone, Ed Devane gets seriously wrong on his 'Tricked Out'
remix. K1

Hey, Purdy Ladies

Shake your booty with DJ Le Spam tonight!

Bemba Given the ridiculous prices people pay for overrated clubs that assault patrons with crappy music, Purdy Lounge could probably make a mint off Bemba. But that’s not what this new event is about. It’s about the people and the music that shaped the Miami sound. You know it when you hear it: the slinky funk, the bumping bass; what it translates to is a sweaty dance floor and good vibes.

DJ Le Spam, Miami’s ambassador of soul and founder of the Spam Allstars, will make love to your ears from behind the decks. Other musicians and DJs include Push Button Objects, Sindri, Alpha 606, Nomadic, Afrobeta, Elastic Bond, Maniac, AS1, Karakter, Medley, and Haviken Hayes. Hip-hop? Check. Electro? Check. Miami Bass? Check. There are a lot more checks, but you get the point. Leave Washington Avenue to the tourists and pseudo thugs. You’ll have a better time beginning at 10 tonight at Purdy Lounge.
