Manuel Tur, Langenberg and Dplay have announced details of their new label venture, Mild Pitch.
Having all been Essen residents, as well as fixtures on Swiss imprint Drumpoet Community's
discography over the past couple of years (not to mention Tur and
Langenberg's work together under their Ribn guise), it seems only
natural that the trio should unite under the umbrella of a cohesive
project. Rather than harp on about Mild Pitch
ourselves however, we figured it made more sense to track down one of
the head honchos Manuel Tur for a brief look into what we can expect
from this new kid on the label block.
Why are you starting a label now, in this economic climate?
When we took the decision to start a label the economic climate was no
primary issue. Our aim was to create a platform to work on our music
without any compromises in the first place. Also, regarding the
economic circumstances in the music industry over the last couple of
years, the current crisis isn't that much of a shock, I reckon.
Will you be doing only releases from your own crew in the beginning? Or are there plans to look outside of Essen?
The first releases will be new stuff from our own studios, starting
things off with a Ribn single called "This Feeling," followed by a
Langenberg 12-inch-which includes a Manuel Tur remix-and a new Dplay EP
for the third release. We want to keep the focus on our own work for
the start, however there's no intention to rule out other artists to
release on the label.
You had Pépé Bradock remix your Freerange single. Any big names for Mild Pitch we can look forward to?
The Pépé Bradock remixes were a beautiful bonus to a song from the
album that's been special to me personally-not to everyone's taste-but
something I'm really happy I got the chance to do. As for Mild Pitch,
we can't confirm any big names yet but keep your eyes open for some
exciting remixes...
How would you describe the sound of the imprint?
Obviously, we're emerging from a deeper house and techno background,
however the label is supposed to give us the opportunity to develop
things forward. The first releases will offer some warm and melodic
housey stuff, but it'll certainly take some time for us, the label and
the people who check out our music, to form a certain Mild Pitch sound.
