There are only about 3 weeks left before the Tour de Cure charity ride so here goes my last ditch effort to beg for support for my ride.

Here's the link to the web page:

http://tour.diabetes.org/site/TR/TourdeCure/TDC206298030?pg=entry&fr_id=5590

1. Just click on "sponsor a rider"

2. enter my first name ("Gavin") and click on "find a rider".

3. Another window does not open.  The page refreshes, but you have to scroll down to see my name.

4. Click on my name.

5. Click on "click here to sponsor me".

We're riding to raise funds for diabetes cure research, so it's a good cause.

Thanks to all who have already sponsored, and to those who are going to!

Just finished the Run to the Sun 8k and my result was pretty predictable.  I started too hard.  I went by the 1 mile mark at a 7 minutes 17 seconds pace--too fast for me for a five mile race.
I did slow myself down a little, but still ended up going by the 3 mile mark at 22 minutes 52 seconds ( a personal record for 3 miles), so I was still running a little too fast.
By 4 miles I started to fade and feel a little queasy.  But when the finish line was in sight I was able to kick a little toward the end and finished with an official time of 39 minutes 43 seconds (7 minutes 57 seconds per mile average pace).  My time was probably more like 39 minutes 30 seconds because I was a little ways back at the starting line.  But, I'm relatively happy with my result.  It's about what I thought it would be.  If I hadn't gone out so fast in the beginning, I would have been able to keep a more even pace and I probably would have finished better.  But not too bad overall.

I'll be running in the Run to the Sun 8k this Saturday.  For those metrically challenged (like me), 8k is about 4.9 miles.  Should be a fun little jaunt.  I'd like to cross the finish line under 40 minutes ( about 8 minute per mile pace), which should be doable for me.  I'm slow.

Current mood:  awake
Our Tour de Cure team, the Dewey Decimators, is assembled and ready to roll.  Our fund-raising goal is $5,000.  A bit optimistic?  Maybe, but possible.  We've got until May 30th to raise money for our ride, but the sooner the better.  Any help, any amount, is much appreciated. Just click on the link below (or cut and paste the link into your little address bar-thing) and click on the "sponsor a rider" tab.  You can type "dewey" in the search bar to find our team, or the indivudual name of a rider on the team to find that rider.

Thanks, people.  It's for a good cause.

I've registered to participate in the Tour de Cure 200k bike race held May 30-31.  All participants are required to raise at least $150 which goes to the ADA (American Diabetes Association). Some of us from the library have registered as a team (awesome team name:  The Dewey Decimators).  If you are interested in sponsoring my ride you can visit the race website (link included below) and click on the "sponsor a rider" tab.  It's quick and easy, and will make you feel like a good citizen.  Thanks.  Should be fun!

For the two or three people who might be interested, I got some new pictures up on my Myspace account.  They are pictures from ourCaribbean trip last month.  Thoroughly enjoy them.

In a fit of pragmatism, I deleted all my "friends" who weren't, like, real people I actually knew.  It just seemed silly.  No offense to anyone deleted.

I ended up not doing the Pumpkin Run 5k.  There was a lot going on that weekend and most of the people who were going to do it with me bailed out, so I caved too.

Oh, well...

I am considering doing this Mandarin 10k on the 15th of November, though.  We'll see.  I'm definitely on the right track as far as training goes.  I'm running 15 to 20 miles a week and have done a 5.5 mile route several times.  Also, I'm planning on running an 8 mile route at least once between now and the 15th.  So, maybe I'll do it.  It would be cool if I could find someone else to run it with me.  Hhmmm...

The Evergreen Cemetery Pumpkin Run 5k is Sunday the 26th of October.  The proceeds will benefit the Jacksonville Historical Society.  I and a few friends will be running it.  It will be a smaller group this time, but I'm excited because the race route is through the cemetery.  Cool idea.  I applaude the race organizers.

I've been training and have been consistently running 3 miles under 25 minutes, so I'm hoping to do this race in just under 24.  I think I can do it, but who knows.  I'll post results soon after.

Saturday we ran the 5k.  It was fun and everyone (Keri, Debbie, Dan, Sherri, Joan) did really well.  As for me, I PRed.  I ran it in (according to my watch) 27mins 10secs.  According to the ChampionChip timing system, I ran it in 27mins 18secs.  Previous to the race, my PR was 28mins, so pretty good improvement.  My new goal is to run 5k in 24 minutes, and to keep working on the 10k distance.
