Hello to all of my brother and sisters in Christ. He Has RISEN. He Has RISEN indeed. How is everyone’s week going to far? I hope and pray all is going well with each and everyone of you. I was reading my devotions last week and I came across a passionate passage in scripture which I would like us to meditate on this week. The scripture passage I would like us to meditate on comes from Paul’s letter to the Romans the 5th chapter the first 21 verses. Romans 5:1-21 states: 1(A) Therefore, since we have been justified by faith,(B) we[a] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2Through him we have also(C) obtained access by faith[b] into this grace(D) in which we stand, and(E) we[c] rejoice[d] in hope of the glory of God. 3More than that, we(F) rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering(G) produces endurance, 4and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5and(H) hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love(I) has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. 6For(J) while we were still weak, at the right time(K) Christ died for the ungodly. 7For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8but(L) God shows his love for us in that(M) while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9Since, therefore,(N) we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from(O) the wrath of God. 10For if(P) while we were enemies(Q) we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by(R) his life. 11More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received(S) reconciliation. 12Therefore, just as(T) sin came into the world through one man, and(U) death through sin, and(V) so death spread to all men because(W) all sinned— 13for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but(X) sin is not counted where there is no law. 14Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not(Y) like the transgression of Adam,(Z) who was a type of(AA) the one who was to come. 15But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for(AB) many. 16And the free gift is not like the result of that one man’s sin. For(AC) the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brought(AD) justification. 17For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness(AE) reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ. 18Therefore, as one trespass[e] led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness[f] leads to justification and life for(AF) all men. 19For as by the one man’s(AG) disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s(AH) obedience the many will be made righteous. 20Now(AI) the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased,(AJ) grace abounded all the more, 21so that,(AK) as sin reigned in death,(AL) grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Do not worry I will not talk on all 21 verses. I would like to only look at two sections. The first section is verses 1-5. The second section I would like to focus on is verses 18-21. The first five verse of Romans 5 talk about our blessed Savior’s death and resurrection from death to save us from our sins. Take a look at verse one; Paul was a very good Lutheran in his day. Many theologians would say Paul was the very first Lutheran by how he talks about how we are saved by grace through faith. What does verse one say? 1(A) Therefore, since we have been justified by faith,(B) we[a] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ; I have peace of mind when I read these words of Paul. I have been forgiven of my sins and I did not have to do anything to obtain this forgiveness, my faith in Jesus Christ gives me this peace of mind. There is nothing we can bring to God which would give us the right to be forgiven. No good works we do can even save us from eternal damnation. We, as believers, can only bring sin, death, and darkness to God; there is nothing good we can bring to God which God does not already have. Verse two says "through him we also have obtained access by faith…" Through him means through Jesus’ death and resurrection we have obtained access to God’s grace by faith; not by what we have done but by what God has given us. what grace are we able to obtain? The grace of God which surpasses all human understanding is the grace we are able to obtain through faith. Should we rejoice in our suffering? Is suffering something which we should enjoy? Most people if not all would say we should not rejoice in suffering. What does Paul have to say about suffering? Well Paul states: "we(F) rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering(G) produces endurance, 4and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5and(H) hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love(I) has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us." Paul would like us to look at suffering differently than we do or should. I agree with Paul when he says suffering produces endurance. Through our sufferings we have the endurance to continue praising God for His blessing given to you. The endurance I get from my sufferings come from the triumph of the cross. You and I have the good news of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Did you ever think your character is produced through your suffering? Your character always seems to come out when you are being tested. Take a look at Paul’s life when looking act character. Paul was going through suffering late in his ministry and look at how much character he had. Through the hard times you will be surprised how much character you will have. Character is given through God’s grace and mercy. Hope comes from character and we see this very clearly when looking at the life of Paul. Through Paul’s suffering his hope in God made his suffering so much more. For Paul knew his suffering could not even compare to the suffering of his Lord and Savior. Paul knew his suffering was only going to be here on earth and his heavenly father had a place ready for him. The second portion of the passage start with verse 18 and goes through 21. Here we see Paul talk about the old Adam and how we needed a savior. In verse 18 Paul writes: " 18Therefore, as one trespass[e] led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness[f] leads to justification and life for(AF) all men." Even though Adam sinned and caused all of us to fall into sin the death and resurrection of Jesus led us to justification. I would like us to take a look at the very last two verses of the passage of scripture. 20Now(AI) the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased,(AJ) grace abounded all the more, 21so that,(AK) as sin reigned in death,(AL) grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Paul says there was sin before any laws were in place, but there is no sin where there are no laws. Look at verse 20, even though sin increases everyday God’s grace just abounds all the more for all of those who believe in His name. Gods grace will abound over sin and His grace will reign all the more and we will have eternal life though Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Prayer Lord Jesus may rejoice in our suffering for our suffering will never compare to the suffering our brother Jesus Christ suffered on the cross. May we remember our hope is in you and our hope is produced through our suffering. Lord please be with all of brothers and sisters in Christ. Lord lead us in the path you want us to go. Lord we live in a world or sin, death and hurt, may we be lights to those who are looking and let us be hope to the hopeless. Give us peace through our suffering and lead us to testify to your glorious triumph on the Cross. Lord I personally ask you to be with each and everyone of my brothers and sister this week, bless them in all they do. AMEN

Here is an update from Rev. Dennis Meeker of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Kenya. Thank you all for your ongoing prayers and support. ~Rachel
Springs of Life Lutheran Church Kibera is celebrating peace in Kenya. We really thank God for this change in the aftermath of much chaos. Your prayers are no small thing and we so much appreciate the fact that we are united with you in Christ Jesus our Lord. With many challenges before us we can only ask that you continue to pray that God will provide what we need to sustain us and move us forward in the rebuilding process.
We have been trying to do the little we can in the interim period as politicians are now headed the right direction for the betterment of the country. Water and electricity have been restored. Temporary fence has been put up to enclose the compound from the public. As of yesterday the main gate foundation is being dug. This is God's work as many never thought this could happen so soon. Opposition from those who depend on the water they retrieve from our plot really was an obstacle but God has changed attitudes to agree to our security and also we agree to make water available to those that depend on it so much. A permanent stone fence with razor blade wire topped with electric fence is top priority as a proposal has been submitted to World Relief Human Care of LCMS St. Louis for assistance. Please pray that God may open the avenues for this security to be realized. It is crucial to the rebuilding process. In fact rebuilding would not be practical without a permanent fence.
We have put temporary roofing on two rooms of the parsonage so the Pastor has an office and also some storage for necessities. The church roof has been temporarily repaired and new glass fixed in the big window above the altar. This will keep us dry when the rainy season begins. The Nursery School has over 30 children .Vision Africa has set a feeding program for our nursery school children. Thanks be to God. The restrooms at the school were least damaged and are being renovated with gifts from our friends at Scripture Mission. This is very important to pass inspection and keep the school open. The water tower is about finished with a 5,000 liter tank. Many fittings were stolen or broken, yet a plan is in place to replace and repair everything.
Plans are being put in place to temporarily replace the roofing of three classrooms and kitchen at the school. This includes widows, doors, electricity, plumbing, power washing, and painting. This will allow some normality for the children and give us time to plan well and fund raise for rebuilding the school as it was before the fire or even better. The love of Christ abides forever.
Yours in Christ,
Rev. Dennis Meeker

Greetings all I would like to wish everyone a great week to come. We are about to enter into the week before Jesus makes his triumphant entry into Jerusalem. This weeks reading will focus on the plotting to kill Jesus. The week before palm Sunday is a very important week in the ministry of Jesus. In the verses leading up to John 11:45-53 we get to see Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead. When Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead there were many Pharisees present. With the Pharisees who were present many of them believed in Jesus after seeing Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead. John 11:45-53 45(N) Many of the Jews therefore,(O) who had come with Mary and(P) had seen what he did, believed in him, 46but some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. 47So the chief priests and the Pharisees(Q) gathered(R) the Council and said,(S) "What are we to do? For this man performs many signs. 48If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and(T) the Romans will come and take away both our(U) place and our nation." 49But one of them,(V) Caiaphas,(W) who was high priest that year, said to them, "You know nothing at all. 50Nor do you understand that(X) it is better for you that one man should die for the people, not that the whole nation should perish." 51He did not say this of his own accord, but(Y) being high priest that year(Z) he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, 52and(AA) not for the nation only, but also(AB) to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. 53So from that day on they(AC) made plans to put him to death. I would like us to take a look at verse 48. In verse 48 the Pharisees who witnessed Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead started to get worried about what the Romans would do to them if Jesus became more popular. The Romans were in charge of the region at this time and the Jews were afraid the Romans would destroy their nation and there temple. The Jews figured if they killed Jesus their problem would go away and they would be able to keep their temple and way of life. Jesus was looked at by the Pharisees as a man who was to be their sacrifice to save the nation and bring the nation together. The problem the Jewish nation and Pharisees had was is they could not believe without seeing. The Jewish leaders took the focus off of what God wanted His people to do and started making laws for everything. What is the lesson we need to look at from this passage in scripture? In looking at this passage we need to remember Jesus came into the world to save us from our eternal damnation. The Pharisees did not want to believe in God; the Pharisees wanted their idea of God to fit into a box. God cannot be put into a box and the Pharisees could not understand that. Jesus came into to the world and took on all our sin and forgave us of each and every one of our sins. Prayer Lord Jesus may we always keep our eyes on you. Lord may we not be like the Pharisees by putting you into a box. Lord prepare our hearts and minds as we get ready for holy week. Jesus please take care of us this week and keep us safe from sin as well as all evil in the world. AMEN

I was taking a walk with my son today from the movies. We had enjoyed the Spiderwick Chronicles and a cup of hot tea at Starbucks. As we began our trip towards home, there were two Mormon Missionairies heading torwards us. I started to not make eye contact with them. The wind was blowing and it was cold, plus, Brendan and I just wanted to go on. But that didn't happen. The leader of the two missionairies stopped right before us. We said our generic hellos, I tried to play dumb. "Oh, so you guys are missionairies? What kind?" (I knew the answer long ahead of time. I was just acting on impulse.) There's a lot I was tempted to say, having grown up in Utah for most of my childhood life. And I started to feel those angry issues of my past popping up. But something stopped me from going there. I explained to the missionary that I didn't have my Bible on me and before we started to discuss things, I would need to have my Bible.
So, it occured to me, invite these guys to Kairos. And from my lips, the invitation came immediately without a chance to think it through. Invite two Mormon Missionairies to Kairos? Am I nuts? And my fear of the invitation begin to kick in. But then, who am I to say who should be invited to the feast?
Pastor Jay shared an interesting perspective on last Sunday's message. He asked us the following questions, our answers are the responses.
"Are you ready?" NO
"Are you willing?" NOT REALLY
Jesus says, "Come anyway."
And so we will.

Kairos. It's a Greek word meaning a defined period for an event, a fixed time. At the perfect kairos, God came into the world in the flesh on that first Christmas day. At the kairos set from the beginning of creation, Jesus went to a cross to fulfill His purpose in coming to the earth. At the kairos held in the mind and heart of God, His Spirit was breathed upon this earth that all people throughout the world and ages may know that the Kingdom of God is near. And at the kairos yet to be revealed, Jesus will return to complete what was begun with the cross and empty tomb. Get the idea? Kairos is not an accident, but a time of purpose. In a culture where so much of life appears random, where time seems dominated by chance and by chaos, there is another truth. It is kairos—God's time. We run our lives by the clock and calendar—God operates within them by kairos. As we come to know God as He has revealed Himself to this world, we start to see the kairos moments—divine appointments—that He has set for each of us. As he speaks to us through faith, life is no longer just a string of unassociated events but a mosaic of divine purpose. If you haven't had the opportunity to step back and look at your life a little differently lately, maybe it's about time. If you've had a longing to see something deeper in this world, maybe it's about time. If you're open to the possibility of God breaking into your closed universe and showing you His signature on His creation, maybe it's about time. Maybe it's about kairos. " After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. "The Kairos has come," he said. "The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!" (Mark 1:14-15) Peace,
Pastor jay Our next Kairos evening will be February 23rd from 5 until around 7-8. Come and hang out in this coffeehouse setting.
