Hi guys,
pre-production is wrapping up and we’re about to go into Hothouse Studios to start work on album number four. In fact, time has been booked, so there’s no backing out now (well, not without some serious weasling).
Here’s another update on a few of the tunes that are going to be recorded for the new album.
All is Forgiven - this is one of the most complex songs we’ve ever done. It’s grand and orchestral. It’s going to be very interesting to see where this one takes us. It’s a possible album opener, sweeping and dramatic and damned if you can really pick where it’s gonna go. OK, maybe you can, but it twists my mind.
Someone Else to Blame - a classic country tune. Probably our first song with a key change - dopn’t worry we haven’t gone all Whitney/Mariah just yet. The basis of this was written while wasting time at our manager’s house in Sydney on one of the last couple of tours up there.
Without Wires - a slow builder. Likely to feature guest vocalists singing a line at a time. "And it sticks in my mind, you said we’d all be fine". I think this one is gonna turn out swell, lotsa stuff coming in and out over a solid base.
Black and Blue - Another tune that has finally been pushed close to a state that’s worthy to take its place on an album. It’s one that shifts in tempo and is again high on drama. One with real atmosphere.
The Same Mistake - Hard to explain. More on the indie rock end of the Fourth Floor spectrum really. "You’ve gone and made the same mistake..."
Audrey is Sad - A torch song. Sounds like you’ve heard it before but of course you haven’t. Rhys pictures this one in a smoky bar.
Whole Lot Comes Alive - One that we’re working hard to try to find the best way to play it. Could be done in a few different ways. It rolls along and is quite upbeat. Started out kinda Wilco-esque but has evolved unconsciously into resembling Kings of Leon (with less mangled singing)...wait to see whether we manage to pull this one off.
So there’s round two and comprises most of the remaining tunes that will make up album four. We’re really working hard on it at the moment and should be rather good...ahem, if I do happen to say so myself. Any questions?

Current mood: optimistic
Hey guys, thought I'd drop by with the long promised album update blog and give you some info on a few of the tracks we've been kicking around.
Pre-production is going along at a rate of knots, we've been moving through almost two tracks per rehearsal time, then we follow that with some basic tracking to get the bones of the song and then go to town with adding all of our trademark fluffery...you know, the stuff you love.
Deadbeat - has been played live a few times already. It's now nearing completion on the pre-prod front. Has a nice rolling feel, think Manic Depression. "...And I beg to be absolved".
Best Disguise - an upbeat, Beatlesy pop number. Nearing completion also. Needs an 'I Am the Walrus' wigout at the end. It's about running away from your troubles. Likely to be filled with brass, which hopefully a few tracks on this album will have. We haven't had much proper brass playing on our records, so it might add a different flavour.
Drive On Regardless - literally a driving song. In the vein of U2 or Snow Patrol. Near complete but needing a high-calibre intro, has a memorable riff that should evolve into this intro in the form of strings or keys perhaps. Who knows?
Get Up Slowly - an evolution of a song of the same name that we debuted at the launch for From the Cold back in 2003. We had a half-decent version recorded for that album but it was never quite right. This version has a new chorus and a big swirly outro. It also swings.
Xmas 88 - A Christmas carol that has been around for several years but never elaborated on before now. It's coming along nicely and evolving in the rehearsal studio. Surprising to see where it's gone. Are we back to religious themes? Actually, it's not a chuck another chestnut on the open fire malarkey.
The Tigers Are Waiting - a fairytale/lullaby. Filled with atmosphere, this is quite possibly the album closer. Builds like Sigur Ros. Has been played quite a few times live lately and seems to go down well.
So, that's about it for now. More updates as we continue along. We have a tentative deadline for mid-year but that is fast approaching, we'll see how we go.

So myspace has done a Coke and now comes in new style and 'classic'. Along with this change has come a few bugs and it seems that the shows I've posted are invisible. These show are:
Fri Nov 9 at IDGAFF on Hoddle St, Collingwood. With CHE90 and Velocipede.
Thu Nov 22 at Manchester Lane in Melbourne. With Ancient Free Gardeners.
Thu Dec 13 at The Espy Frontbar. With Wellyn and Idee Fixe.
Should be jolly good. There may even be a few other shows around this time. Rumoured are some regional Victorian shows and some to coincide with the premiere and launch of the Perth music documentary, 'Something in the Water'. We're also hard at work on the next album...lots of good things in the pipeline.

Well, sort of.
Gotye's remix/covers album is up for Album of the Year at the ARIAs and as you probably know, Fourth Floor has the track Worn Out on there. So in our way we're up for an award. I'd like to go at some stage but we might dip out on a seat up near the front shouting abuse at Andrew G or whatever. For album of the year it's a tough field, John Butler, Powderfinger, Silverchair (even though two of those released their weakest albums to date) but go Wally! He's a decent chance to take off best male artist out of the 4 categories that he has nominations in.

Hi guys, lately you might have heard about the new Gotye remix/covers album, Mixed Blood. Well, we get the delightful honour of having the closing track on that album.
This is a 30 second track on the Like Drawing Blood album and we took it and turned Wally into our Dido and we played Eminem and wrote the song around his bit as a chorus.
Hope you like it.
Check out www.myspace.com/gotye for full details of the album.

Pardon me sir. I am Nigerian royalty and I'm using my royal powers to issue a royal statement telling the Macy's spam gang to please fuck off.
You are certain to go straight to hell for your vile spammage.
What's more, what would I want with a Macy's $500 gift card when I would have to spend thousands to get within the general vicinity of a Macy's store. Why spam us? Why hack the accounts of reputable bands? It creates illwill for your bullshit fly-by-night operation.
Fuck Macy's. Fuck your whole parade and fuck your gift cards.
Ahhh, happy times indeed. Don't we long for the days when all we had to contend with were slice of life ads on the telly and we only had to avoid the spewings of radio announcers spruiking wares after being greased by cash.
Now send me your bank account details, bitch. I have millions of dollars I need to transfer and you will be richly rewarded.

Hi guys,
just a quick one to let you know that in our latest run of shows we're heading down to sunny Geelong. We're there this Thrusday night (May 3) with Young Husband and the High Heals (no typo)...it's just 6 measly bucks.
Also, we're starting to ask our myspace pals if they have any shows they'd like us to play. We're looking for new shows and will do almost anything in either full band, semi-acoustic or two acoustics mode. Three cheers for three degrees of Fourth Floor.
Cheers to friends new and old we caught up with in Sydney last week and our pals in Hobart too for the week before.
Hopefully we'll get around and see more of you guys really soon.
