Unconventional Denver Meeting
Tuesday, March 31st 7pm
Hooked On Colfax- 3215 E Colfax Ave
People have been asking if we're still around and how to get involved. We
are indeed around still and have been working on a campaign with ACORN and
other groups to help people resist the foreclosure process. There is also
an anti-coal bike ride coming up that we're helping plan. It has been
awhile since we've had a public meeting, so this will be a good one to
attend for people who are new or haven't been involved in awhile. We'll
also try and set up regular meeting dates so the group is more open and
accessible to people.
Hope to see you there,

The recent Unconventional Denver meeting was an exciting one. With some old and many new faces, a new group is emerging out of the DNC protests. With the conventions behind us, we trained our eyes to the future and talked about the issues that speak to us as well as what we'd like to get out of an anarchist collective. Here is a summary of what transpired.
Growth, Action, Propaganda
As we listed the kind of work we wanted to take up, we noticed three general themes: growth, action and propaganda. Around those themes a few projects jumped out as ones we're all interested in. We'll be using those three facets of organizing to begin working on those, though we also emphasized that we wanted to be a group that offered solid support for other struggles going in Denver and beyond. Here's what we're up to. If you're interested in any of this work, email us at unconventionaldenver@riseup.net or come to the next meeting-
Next Meeting Thursday October 30, 7pm Hooked On Colfax 3215 E Colfax Ave
Upcoming Projects
Post-Convention/Election Organizing We're speaking at several events to tell the stories of the DNC and also facilitate conversations on how those events affect our work now. For those still feeling the effects of state repression from this summer's mobilizations we're organizing several events to raise critical funds as well as awareness of those being criminalized for their dissent. We'll also be participating in an exciting day after the election event to bring to light the limits of represenational politics and offer anti-capitalist views on the current economic downturn. We'll send out a separate email with specifics on each event.
Foreclosure/Finanical Crisis Denver is one of the hardest hit cities when it comes to the foreclosure crisis. It is something that has impacted the neighborhoods we live in and is an issue that strongly resounded with many of us. We'll be studying the foreclosure situation locally and nationally as well as learn what work is going on here as well as campaigns and groups around the country that are doing inspiring work around this issue. With that information we'll hopefully see some exciting and powerful work to keep people in their homes and fight back against this predatory system.
Eco-Defense The Roan Plateau, an awe-inspiring stretch of land is now being slated for drilling from the Oil and Gas Industry. It's an issue that is of great concern to us and one we're currently researching and learning about.
Anti-War Resistance War and occupation rages on in Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine and elsewhere around the globe. We made solid links with Iraq Veterans Against the War during the DNC and are also talking with other activists in the4 region around an exciting campaign that you'll have to come to a meeting to find out about!
Again these are just issues that initially jumped out as ones we want to work on. There was a broad range of issues and causes brought up at the meeting that people are already working on or interested doing more with.

D-Town 2 the Twins!! a DNC to RNC Caravan!! Lets Hit the Road Together!!
Unconventional Denver is organizing a caravan from Denver to the Twin Cities to facilitate getting from the DNC to the RNC this summer.
We will leave Denver on Friday 29th in the morning around 10am and drive to Lawrence, KS for a night of camping, eating, singing around campfires and all around merriness. Dinner and breakfast will be provided. On Saturday morning, we will break camp and travel together up to the Twin Cities.
Unconventional Denver is calling for support in the forms of busses/vans/cars/winged chariots and food stuffs. Does your community have a bus, sitting in the drive, begging for some radical caravan love? Well here's your chance. We hope to organize transportation for all people looking to travel, but lack the necessary vehicles to do so.
We are also pulling together necessary food and cooking equipment, but most of the out-of-town gear that will be in Denver is committed to other projects and what is here already is for local food projects, so any big pots, pans, cutting boards, and anything else cooking related (industrial size garlic press???) that y'all can bring would be greatly appreciated.
If you are hoping to take part, we ask that you send us an email and let us know so that we can round up the necessary supplies for y'all and make sure that we have transportation covered. Our email is: dtown2thetwins@gmail.com. We especially ask that if you are hoping to join in but do not have transportation that you contact us so that we can work on making sure that you will be able to travel with us.
We are pulling together legal and medical support for duration of the trip, and are hoping to provide an aftercare/decompression tent in Lawrence to ensure that we are ready and able to confront the state at the RNC the next week.
In solidarity- Unconventional Denver unconventionaldenver@riseup.net dtown2thetwins@gmail.com

Modo atual: empolgado
Unconventional Denver is proud to announce the release of Expose this Sham Democracy- Disrupt the DNC!
In this slick little zine you will find the most recent schedule of events, which should help to quell much of the speculation and false announcements made by some. The zine also contains information about the upcoming Unconventional Action Camp in Denver as well as the logistics we will be providing and how people can plug into the exciting work being done.
We're doing a mass mailing across the country. If you're interested in receiving or distributing bulk orders of the zine. Email us at unconventionaldenver@riseup.net
The zine can also be downloaded for free under the Downloads section of www.dncdisruption08.org We strongly encourage people to print these out make massive copies. The more that we can decentralize the printing and shipping side of this project, the more we can focus on fundraising for things like the convergence center, tech equipment and other goodies that go into a mobilization of this scale.
Solidarity and Happy Reading!

Anarchists and Anti-Authoritarians: join us in Denver, Colorado, August 24th-28th as we engage in coordinated Direct Actions against the Democratic National Convention, its corporate sponsors, and the military/police occupation of public space. Respecting diverse tactics and the autonomy of affinity groups and individuals, Unconventional Action has created the following framework to maximize our impact as we disrupt the DNC. Unconventional Action's strategy at the Democratic National Convention will hold the Democratic Party accountable for promoting unjust policies: environmental degradation, the enforcement of arbitrary borders, attacks on the poor, complacency in war, and racist policing. We will expose to the nation that the Democrats and Republicans are two sides of the same coin, both parties funded by the same corporations and upholding the same unjust political system which fails to meet the needs of the vast majority of people. Anarchists and Anti-Authoritarians are urged to engage in a broad variety of tactics to disrupt fundraising events and prevent Democratic delegates from voting for no-choice candidates. Unconventional Action will honor and support autonomous actions while coordinating a highly publicized assault on the pageantry, violence, and abuses of the Democrats and the two-party capitalist system.
Unconventional Action will target a variety of the 1,500 proposed fundraisers, countless delegate hotels, and designated institutions perpetuating global injustice. Using space reclamation, street theatre, direct confrontation, positive action, and a broad array of other tactics, we will force the national media to question the Democratic Party's failures, hold Democratic candidates accountable for their abuses of power, and engage in direct actions that reflect our ultimate goals of joy and liberation through creativity and confrontation.
Below we have outlined our anticipated schedule of direct action for the DNC. While rough, our outline can be used as a guide to schedule and develop actions. Our calendar is a flexible work-in-progress and will shift as needed. Unconventional Action Denver will provide updates on the website, www.dncdisruption08.org. This is at best currently a rough outline, and will most likely change and solidify as the weeks progress. Take this as a guiding schedule for your actions, and expect to hear more from Unconventional Denver about these events and actions. Denver organizers have designated certain themes for particular days. We have indicated these themes in parentheses. Consider coordinating the message of your actions based on each days theme. The calendar is as follows:
SUNDAY AUG 24: ANTI WAR/OCCUPATION DAY AM: All are encouraged to participate in an Anti-War/Anti-Occupation March and related actions.
PM: Directly following the march, Unconventional Action Denver will plan for a low to medium risk reclamation of space somewhere in the city, as yet to be determined.. This action will be widely publicized, although the location may be revealed only in the lead up week or two, and will be designed to show our strength and ability to create our own systems of organization. After our reclamation, we will PARTY ALL NIGHT LONG!!! From this party, affinity groups will be encouraged to depart and engage in autonomous actions targeting those who profit from wars and our oversized military.
MONDAY AUG 25: Free Political Prisoners/Human Rights Day AM: Participate in a Free Peltier/All Political Prisoners march ending at the capitol across from civic center park. Because Peltier has a vital hearing later in the week that could free him from his long illegal imprisonment, Unconventional Denver encourages all to attend this march.
PM: SHUTDOWN THE FUNDRAISERS!!! The DNC/Democrats are hosting a giant party to raise as much money as they can. On this night, we will interrupt this flow of capital and disrupt the fundraisers. Our theme: no business as usual. The Democrats and their corporate backers will be unable to continue their celebrations of environmental, economic, and social destruction, political corruption, and failed policy. UD will provide more information about events/locations.
TUESDAY AUG 26: Environmental Issues/ No Global Warming Day AM: STOP THE VOTE!!! WE VOTE NO!! Tuesday is the day when all the delegates put in their vote for who will represent the Democrats in the election, BUT THEY ONLY HAVE UNTIL 6PM TO VOTE and it is a long, arduous process. We encourage people to focus on ways to stop the delegates from getting to the Pepsi center to vote. Our targets: hotels, intersections, and transportation systems. . Special attention will be given to keeping the so called "super-delegates" (what funny comic book characters they would be…) from being able to attend the vote. ALL TACTICS WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED!!! Come prepared with a plan and ready to make a stand with your affinity group and friends.
PM: Tonight, we'll target fundraisers of corporations profiting from and furthering global warming. We will also shut down actual sources of environmental degradation and greenhouse gas emissions. Get creative and use a diversity of tactics. . WEDNESDAY AUG 27: NO BORDERS DAY AM: A NO BORDERS march will be planned by other groups. Unconventional Action hopes to see no actions during the time of this march that compromise the safety of march participants. Our goal is to ensure that the march is safe for all people, regardless of documentation status.
AFTERNOON/PM: At the People's Feast we will share food around Denver with as many people as we can, especially those negatively affected by the DNC's presence in town. Focus on food liberation. Do the delegates really need that much food?
PM: Concrete decentralized actions. Guerrilla gardening, free school/workshops, gentrification reclamation, informational bike rides, helping negatively impacted communities, impromptu dance parties, and anything else you creative people out there can think of. Thematically, we call for people to engage in actions targeting corporations and individuals profiting from the criminalization of immigration and contractors in Denver working on the border-fence. THURSDAY AUG 28: End Racism/Imperialism Day
AM-PM: Today we will engage in visually stunning, media attracting actions targeting the Democrats' complicity in racism in Denver and nationally through gentrification, police brutality, criminal injustice, the prison industrial complex, etc. We will target institutions and corporations that bring US imperialism and racism to the rest of the world and inflict it upon us
Late PM-Friday AM: Tonight we will party, sleep, and support our comrades before heading to Minneapolis to disrupt the RNC…

While the presidential contenders were busy raising millions of dollars in a matter of hours trying to convince people to vote for them at the caucuses, some people took the Super Tuesday fiasco as an opportunity to bring up issues that both the candidates and the mainstream media have continued to ignore.
Unconventional Denver, a local group part of nationwide network of anarchists and anti-authoritarians organizing against the upcoming political conventions, called for last minute actions against the elections on Tuesday, February 5th.
Actions both intitiated by and independent of the Unconventional Action call appeared in Boston, Denver, Grand Junction, Grand Rapids, Milwaukee, and San Francisco.
Activities ranged from wheatpasting and baner drops to street theatre, soapbox speeches, and crashing the caucuses with lists of demands for the pro-war Democratic candidates.
These actions follow recent actions that have happened outside the CNN Democratic debates in LA, numerous planning consultas held across the country and other creative actions taken to show the alternative to the spectre of the democracy the two parties insist is the only means of change.
Already, more activity is in the works with at least eleven campuses planning on hosting Tent State Universities that will lead up to a national one set up during the Democratic National Convention. More consultas are being planned, including one in Olympia, WA this weekend and the RNC Welcoming Committee is now touring the continent in preparation for the RNC protests.
Here's a brief report on each locale:
Boston

The city of Boston was graced with four banner drops declaring "Nobody For President" and asking "Love Democracy but Hate Politicians?… Try Anarchy." There was also liberal amounts of wheatpasting denouncing so-called representative democracy and promoting democracy that is direct. There was also several incidents of street theatre in the city.
Denver

A banner was dropped over the I-25 during rush hour declaring "Two Parties, No Voice" which was greeted by many honks of approval and one thumbs down by cop driving by. The officer later changed his tune when he went up to question the activists asking, "So what does that think say anyways." When he heard, he walked away muttering "Ain't that the truth." The action was also covered by the wonderful Fox News.
Grand Junction

Just hours before the caucuses began in Grand Junction, a banner was unfurled stating "WE VOTE NO" on the new parking garage in downtown Grand Junction. Emblazoned with a red anarchy sign, the banner faced the Wayne Aspinall Federal Building.
Grand Rapids
Anti-election and anti-state posters were wheatpasted around the city of Grand Rapids and the banner drops continued, this one explaining frankly that "Elections Never Stop Wars," accompanied by a sweet anarchy in the spirit of a new spring coming.
Milwaukee
Milwaukee anarchists also joined in on this day with banner drops as well.
San Francisco

In the East Bay the newly revived Direct Action to Stop the War, the group that helped organize the shut down of downtown San Francisco the day the war began, organized their first return action on Super Tuesday by marching to the Obama and Clinton headquarters.
Demonstrators, accompanied by about a dozen San Francisco police officers, marched from U.N. Plaza, carrying signs and banners, to Clinton's campaign office on Howard St. and were met at the door by Clinton staffers. After a brief dialogue, demonstrators tried to enter the offices and were denied entry. Police stepped in to keep activists from going inside. Demonstrators then taped up large posters on the building's exterior, and Clinton supporters came out and ripped the signs down, claiming the right to do so because they were "defacing" the building.

After the confrontation at the Clinton office, demonstrators proceeded to the Obama office near Market and Octavia and were met by Obama staffers at the front door. This time there was no conflict, as demonstrators explained their concerns about Obama's questionable anti-war credentials. After another 10-15 minutes, the demonstration broke up.
