NEW 4 SONG EP, DIGITAL RELEASE OCTOBER 27th – IN ADVANCE OF SECOND ALBUM ON ISLAND RECORDS, OF MEN AND ANGELS, DUE EARLY 2010

FOLLOW-UP TO 2007’s DO YOU FEEL, FIRST ISLAND RECORDS ALBUM, WITH MEMORABLE ALL-STAR VIDEO FOR “DO YOU FEEL”

6-week, 34-city tour with Forever the Sickest Kids opens Oct. 25th

(October 8, 2009 – New York, NY) After more than two years of non-stop touring as The Rocket Summer, frontman, songwriter and multi-instrumental mastermind Bryce Avary has finally been able to put the finishing touches on his second major label album release on Island Records, OF MEN AND ANGELS, due to arrive early next year.  Single “You Gotta Believe” will premier on AlternativePress.com on October 19th.  Fans can hear early teases of the song on the site week of October 12th.

In advance of the album release, a 4 song EP will be released digitally on October 27th, You Gotta Believe, produced by Bryce Avary and co-produced and engineered by CJ Eiriksson, who served as engineer on Do You Feel, the first major label album release by TRS on Island.  EP will include tracks from the upcoming album and bonus song, “You Gotta Believe”, “Hills and Valleys”, “Light” and “The Fight”.   Two days before the You Gotta Believe EP release, the Rocket Summer returns to the road, for a 34-city North American tour with Forever the Sickest Kids, opening October 25th in Oklahoma City, ending six weeks later in San Francisco on December 5th.  (Please see tour dates below.)

OF MEN AND ANGELS and You Gotta Believe follow-up The Rocket Summer’s Island debut, Do You Feel, released July 2007.  After the release of “So Much Love,” as an advance track, the album’s title tune single “Do You Feel” eventually broke through at Alternative and Modern Rock radio in the summer of 2008, while TRS headlined the sold out Alternative Press tour and graced the cover of AP’s magazine as well.  TRS then headed out on a successful six-week North American tour with Phantom Planet, Secret Handshake, and the Morning Light, plus two sold out headline tours in the UK! When describing TRS, Austin City Limits states; "We're not talking simple acoustic solo stuff here, The music Bryce makes as The Rocket Summer is lush, explosively catchy and artful power pop that hints at a new Brian Wilson or Prince in the making. Keep an eye out on this one."

The video for “Do You Feel” turned into a phenom, directed by Bryce Avary and Nate Weaver, with guest appearances by Josh Farro and Jeremy Davis (Paramore),  Andrew McMahon (Jack’s Mannequin), Jonathan Cook (Forever The Sickest Kids), Alex Gaskarth (All Time Low), Mike Herrera (MxPx), Forrest Kline (Hellogoodbye), and Matt Theissen (Relient K).  To date, the album version of “Do You Feel” has passed 4 million plays on The Rocket Summer’s MySpace website.

Avary, a phenomenally gifted visionary was a teenager playing local shows around Colleyville, Texas in 1999, when he composed, arranged, produced, sang, and performed every instrumental part on his low-budget self-titled EP, The Rocket Summer.  The full-length Calendar Days was recorded in 2002, and released in 2003 by The Militia Group.  The grassroots following exploded as TRS toured relentlessly, climaxed by a warm reception in Japan.  A second indie album, Hello, Good Friend, recorded in Brooklyn with producer Tim O’Hier, was released in 2005, as the fan base continued to grow.

ATTENTION ALL MUSICIANS: Do you play a musical instrument and want to rock with The Rocket Summer on stage on the upcoming fall tour? If you play a unique musical instrument, meaning everything and in-between from the brass family (horns such as trumpets, tubas, trombone, euphoniums etc) to the woodwind family (Sax, Flute, Clarinet, Bassoon, Oboe, etc) to the string family (violin, viola, banjo, mandolin, ukulele) or even instruments such as bag pipe, the harmonica, the accordion and more… We are looking for someone in each individual city to rock the sax solo from the song SO MUCH LOVE with us on his or her instrument!! Here’s how: 1. Learn the solo on your instrument (does not have to be exact, just preferably close, however, if not close, just impressive!) 2. Make a video on youtube. 3. If your audition wins for your city, you get to come and play the solo on stage during So Much Love! 5. When I was 13, I snuck into a bar in NYC to see Les Paul perform.  After the show Les and I talked for quite a while and he encouraged me to go for it.  He told me to " Keep Pickin'."  That changed my life.  Thanks, Les.  - Bryce

When I was in high school, a friend of mine was having a party.  I had asked my brother to come with me and he declined, saying he just wasn't feeling going to a party that would be full of younger people that he didn't know, which to be fair, I understood.  However, I was being fairly persistent on him coming with me, I'm not sure why, but I just wanted him to come... I thought it would be fun.  He appreciated it but just wasn't feeling it, so after a while I got the point and took off for the party.  As I was on my way, I was driving down the main street of my town when someone on the side of the road, presumably a kid, decided to throw a brick at the fast, oncoming traffic.  Without any warning, the brick fiercely and profoundly collided with my windshield directly on the passenger side crushing my entire windshield and rocketing large, sharp shards of glass on to and all over my unoccupied passenger seat.

I had legitimately and totally forgot about that until earlier today when I drove down that street.

I think I forgot about this because I have a fair amount of much more significant life stories about experiencing rescue and receiving clarity during trials, testing and seasons of simply being in the desert.  It's wild how even though I have so many of these stories, I still continue to forget over time.  Although somewhat random, remembering the brick story and what could have happened if my brother decided to come along somehow reminded me of these other moments.

There have been several times where I have been trapped under wreckage where for months I agonized and longed to be pulled out while it felt like God was being so quiet, yet in his timing he eventually did pull me out, revealing himself to me along with understanding and took me further than I could think.  Yet somehow even having experienced such divine rescue and moments of such supernatural engagement, I began to forget once things began to run fairly smooth for long enough, or I should say more so when things became so busy.  I've just been thinking about all of these things lately.  I wonder how many times the word "Remember" is used in the greatest book of promises and love stories...

I want to be done with forgetting...

I'm not in control and I'm thankful for that.  Just felt like sharing...

PEACE.

Hey guys,
this past week I had the amazing opportunity of playing outside the White House for Invisible Children.  During the set, I played a Yeah Yeah Yeahs song with a slightly different spin on it.  I figured I'd share it with you, so here you are!  Hope you guys are well and I can't wait to see you soon with a new record out... Miss you all!
God Bless.

Hey guys, I want to encourage everyone to go to the worldwide Invisible Children event, "The Rescue" in your town or a town close to you this Saturday to help support a great cause. It's imperative that the severe injustice that is happening in Uganda stops and people all around the world are coming together to see that it does. If you haven't heard of this, please visit http://www.therescue.invisiblechildren.com and watch the captivating video. It will be a fun and rewarding experience hanging out with so many other people who want to raise awareness about this and believe that it is possible for this to come to an end. Also, for anyone going in Dallas, I might be there... and I might play a tune. (might = will) Check it... Bryce
