* * *
Part 1: "Happiness Machines"
Meet Sigmund Freud's nephew Edward Bernays and his groundbreaking ideas on crowd control. Bernays invents public relations in the 1920s by using Freud's theories to influence people. He shows corporations how they can make people want things they don't need.

Part 2: "The Engineering of Consent"
The theories of Edward Bernays and Anna Freud gain power after WWII. Bernays is hired by the CIA to use advertising techniques to sell the overthrow of Latin American countries. Anna Freud is hired to start a national mental health program based on conformity.

Part 3: "There Is a Policeman Inside All Our Heads: He Must Be Destroyed"
In the 1960s, transformation is in the air. But when people realize they can't change government through protest, they retreat to changing themselves. For corporations, this becomes another opportunity. They develop lifestyle marketing and convince people they can express their individuality through buying things, leading to the creation of the "Me" generation.

Part 4: "Eight People Sipping Wine in Kettering"
Starting with Ronald Reagan, contemporary politicians adopt lifestyle marketing techniques. Later, Bill Clinton perfects the use of the focus group which lets the whims of target voters determine national policy.

This past weekend was the Charlotte Literary Fest and a comic book convention. So godcity was pretty busy. We had to split the crew to make both events. Saturday was mad wet so we didn't go out . But Sunday was ill... no it was hot... as hell. But we meet some cool people. Big up to Nars (not Barkley) I also had the pleasure of chatting with Ms. Jolanda (hope I spelled that right). Her booth was beside of ours. so we formed like Votron and made a super booth. She was selling shirts. You can pick one up at Infinities End. go cop one  It was just her and I at first the rest of godcity hadn't gotten there yet. We talked about hip hop, the heat, black youth, the heat, art, the heat, the current state of black folk and ...the cold no heat. She's cool peps.

Jago came out and did his painting in front of people thing. Which is always ill.  I would  paint in front of people but I can't afford an easel. Being broke sucks, but you know what sucks worse than that? It's being broke and sweating your ass off trying to sell people $10 prints. I saw a lady who owes godcity money for doing an event "for the kids" with her a few months ago. (funny how everyone else got paid but us.hmmmm) She walked by our booth like she didn't see us. Kinda like she owed us money or somethin...oh wait. It's cool. We look at it as a lesson learned and at least the kids got something out of it.

The rest of the crew came out after the comic book con. We all sweated together (as a team). We just kinda hung out talked with people. Any artist we saw out there we built with them to try an make Charlotte a mecca for the arts.

Funny thing happened. A ten year old girl came to the booth who was really interest in art. So Jolanda gave her a shirt and I gave her a print and told her to always express herself. So later she cames backwith her family (sisters.brothers, aunts, mom, pop, and grandma). Jago told her she could also have one of his prints. The next thing we know every member of the fam has a number of our prints (basically all our prints) in there hands begininng to walk off with them while at the same time telling us we're very talented artist. I don't mind giving free stuff to kids who love art or what we do, but these were grown ass people with jobs. And that's the last of out product. (basically they were cleaning us out.) I never knew it was so hard to tell an old lady "that's ten dollars" while she's telling me that you're a great artist. Jago and I were laughing about that today. It was mad awkward . To me those are the funniest moments in life.

But it was a great day. Big up to Jazz for putting it together. Go to his Bookstore Real Eyes. Buy a book, feed your brain and shit knowledge.
