here's a blurb from 99 cent special's site:
Tazmanian Embassy - Binghamton, NY
05.21.95
The first performance at
the now defunct Taz. A great show, and a great line up!
Abalienation kicked ass and Squid Launch performed much to Exit's
delight a jazz noise performance.
The singer of Squid Launch spent most of the time writhing on the floor
looking like something was seriously wrong with him, and the a trip to
the detox would be in order...
It was certainly a mixed bill as punk, freak-fusion, and tribaltechindusludgoth all fit in one night.

thanks to mystra records for the inclusion of squidlaunch on the x-plural-us comp...what a way to rep the good folx around the area...
we've been talking about doing another comp with the likes of gutters, diagram: a, belltonesuicide, frost giant, phloyd, ben karetnick, diana davies, urthquake and others...any chance we can get a collaberative effort going? we're willing to spearhead it if we can get whiff that enough people are interested. maybe each artist pays for their own track (to evenly divide pressing costs)? maybe someone wants to work on a cover? it'd be cool to have it be a multi-label project.
anybody interested?

Shawn here calling out to anyone out there who has any of the long lost video footage that I took at shows throughout the years. I've heard rumors that Ethan has some. Anyone else? I'm anxious to see them and I have none of them in my possession. Lets hand em over.

Squidlaunch review from Dress To Opress by Jim MacNaughton(Devoid of Faith)
February 26th-found myself,Naomi(the big Dysgusher rec. exec. down on some product research from toronto),Kevin and Nate piled in my car to some nice kid's basement in suburban Conn. with Conniption(albanymeisters),Outlet(Ma.),Squidlaunch(Ma.),Timm y(NYC),and Drop Dead. Very neat show, this kid's mom let him do it out of their family room. Outlet were ok,they sounded like jawbreaker with pantera mosh parts or something.not for me really...hey,did you guys steal drop dead's cymbal? Squidlaunch were good to a point, which i'll get to.they almost musically reminded me of MITB if they(mitb) played through small amps.Brendan, their singer, got a bit too "enthused" and broke someone's glasses in his flailing about...not a good mood and set a weird tone after that. this was Conniption's 2nd show, and they were good(what can i say, mark is also in D.O.F.),very discharge like, very venom like(joke). dofisdofisdof. Drop Dead,i call them killer 'cause they slay me!Brutal even in someone's family room. Timmy were pretty interesting.A screaming drummer,a screaming Amanda(of Hausipungo 'fame'),and a wiggling, convulsing bass player. all in all a good night and i even got our waiter freaked out at the diner afterwards when i pulled out my camera and took a picture of Nate's double beef burger("at the cost of an animal!!!!"). Glorious indeed.
scott had this to say:
student of mine LOVED squidlaunch
he wears Captain Beefheart shirts to school, so figured why not
gave him this list for bands melt banana boredoms lightning bolt parts and labor battles big bear devoid of faith monster x
and, squidlaunch
what did he like the best melt banana, close second - fucking squidlaunch. BUMMIN! did not tell him I was in the "ensemble" - I did tell him about opening for lightning bolt at mystery train records in northampton. Geesh, lightning bolt was scary.

When I say noise, I'm not kidding. I'm talking walking on the bass that is going through distortion and who knows what else into am amp straining to commit suicide.

here are some blurbs about it all...
from WFMU's beware of the blog...http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2007/09/recent-new-bin-.html Squidlaunch - "Live" 7" (Interplanetary/Spooky Tree/Cardboard/1fa/Moneytree) I am guessing this is a Pat Duncan production as the info just says Live WFMU 1995 - the pics therein reveal mohawked freaks bugging out on trombones and such and there's like 6 or 7 labels co-releasing this. Someone aptly said this was like the sound of Greg Ginn jamming out with Man is the Bastard and I couldn't be more in harmony with that. Since the time this happened it's been a bummer to see so many experimental hardcore kids just dropping the ball perhaps to do something less wild (perhaps to maintain health/sanity, so who can blame 'em; one of these guys is in the very fine Parts and Labor these days however), and while there is certainly a contingent to pick up that ball, I wish more would. In an ideal Bush world, every kid should be studying up on Mens Recovery Project and taking it to the streets, dammit. This thing is aggro freedom personified. Very limited...brian turner WFMU

NEW RELEASES FOR SPRING 20O7
SQUIDLAUNCH LIVE 7" this is an archival document of the mid 90's power-violence band that very few people knew of and even less people cared about when they existed. recorded live in may of 1995 on WFMU. at a time when most bands in the valley underground were PC and emo. these guys performed with a ferocity that moved me everytime. whether they played their set in 15 minutes or it took them an hour. through out their existence they have had anywhere from 4 to 10 members. attacking larger experimental concepts when no one else would. they were once described as "...if greg ginn had jammed with man is the bastard." this record might bring you closer to that wet dream. co released with: interplanetary music, cardboard records, spooky tree, lfa records, and money tree records. art work provided by brute communications and nose maids. limited to 200 on red wax.
from spooky tree's site www.spookytreerecords.com (includes reviews by brian turner and byron coley) Squidlaunch "Live on WFMU 1995" 7" STR 002 1/6 Long-running Western Massachusetts collective documented at the height of its noise/grind powers, complete with bent electronics and horns. Recorded during their only ever tour. Includes current members of Urthquake, State Shirt, Parts & Labor, GTDS, and many more. Co-released by Bone Scraper, Interplanetary Music, LFA, $ Tree, and Cardboard. Art by Jeff Hartford.
"This is totally hot, highly reckless post-core noise jazzbo hollering from a bunch of guys who flared bright for a brief moment in a former decade but went down with all their teeth buzzing. It's a beautiful no-fi document of time sliced thin and wrapped around yowling trombones. -Byron Coley (The Wire)
