Time for some updates:

Brandon, Jo, and I are working our rear-ends off getting ready for our national tour (a.k.a. WinTour 2010) starting January 1st.  We are looking forward to seeing all of your lovely faces, and then proceeding to melt them via kick-ass shows....be prepared.

Before we do, though, we could really use your help in getting ready to hit the road. How, you ask? Welllll, we currently have merchandise and CDs available for sale on our websites. We'd like to have a new line of merch manufactured and looking good for your eyes, ears, and bodies when we play your towns in a few months. In order to do that, we need to sell our current shirts, posters, and whatnots to our adoring public (read: you). So if you can gather up the loose change in your cars and pockets, pick up a t-shirt or two. And while you're at it, jump on one of those CDs as well (they make excellent stocking-stuffers!) so you can sing along with me when we're rocking your city to pieces...

I hope you are all having fun and enjoying life.  I wish you all good things to you and yours; have a great Turkey Day!!

Your friend,
Robbie

As many of you may or may not know, this has been a long and arduous journey for me and my team.  Thank you to all who have been keeping up with me (Robbie Hazen) and my band (the Riot), and have been supporting us at our shows or online by listening to the tunes and spreading the word.  You're the best!!

I want to let everyone know that I am now in a very happy place with the people in which I am currently surrounded; I perform with a talented band, I have an incredible support system, and just recently have been blessed to be in the company of an incredible man and agent, Freddie Dunlap. He heads up Edlynd Music Group, a boutique publicity, booking and management company based out of Knoxville, TN and Philadeiphia, PA. Edlynd Music Group has been busily booking our 2010 national tour, and will continue to work with us on both the booking and tour publicity fronts.  They are steadfast, efficient, and damn good at what they do.  I am so excited for the future of this band, and I hope you are as well...

Before we start touring, however, we do have a few more local shows coming up.  I'd love for you to come out and say hey to me and the guys as we prepare for the next phase in our careers and our lives. I thank you again for all of your support, and I wish you the very best with your hopes and dreams as my band and I work toward embarking on ours.

I find myself in Orlando, contemplating the journey I've been on since my graduation in May of 2008.  I've toured the state of Florida, networked and researched, received nationwide radioplay of my second CD which I released in October of 2008 through my label, toured some more, took on a drummer, created 'the Riot,' networked and researched, performed even more, took on a bassist, solidified 'the Riot,' performed more and more, and just recently started up a great working relationship with Edlynd Music Group.
There were several "learning experiences" along the way -- actually, a LOT of "learning experiences" -- that brought me to where I am today.  It's interesting to note that in this industry there's no tried-and-true path to success.  If you read up on five of your favorite bands, I guarantee you that all five have different 'how I made it' stories. Some stories are less tumultuous than others, but each one is unique, with its own failures, challenges and triumphs.  I have been fairly lucky thus far, and have done my best to make solid business and creative decisions that would yield the best results for my career.  And as you may or may not have seen yet, the next big test of this band's strength will come at the start of the new year, when we embark on our first national tour.  Brandon, Jo and I have been busily working here in South Florida to make sure that each and every show is as successful as it can be, and we hope that you (yes you, the person reading this) will assist us as well.  The best way to do so is to purchase some of our current merchandise, tell your friends about Robbie Hazen and the Riot, and bring everyone you know to our shows when we come to your town.

We truly appreciate your love and support.
Robbie

Hello hello, and greetings from South Florida.  I've been quite busy recently, so I figured once I got the chance to sit down for a second, I should write to you and let you know about the goings on here at Robbie Hazen and the Riot-land...

As you may have surmised from MySpace updates and past shows, I was touring the Maritimes in Canada last week.  The short of the story is that I met up with a promoter after playing at the Garlic Festival this past February. He eagerly bought up CDs and told me and my team that my music would go over very well where he lived in Nova Scotia.  So after months of conversing and logistics, I headed up to Halifax on Aug 21.  In just under 10 days, I played 6 shows and had a radio interview/performance in Amherst, amongst other things.  It was an incredible trip, and I have my friend and promoter Matt Moffatt to thank; his persistence and belief in my music made for one fun and memorable journey.  Thanks Matt!

Now that I'm back home, I've had a LOT of catching up to do.  Stacks of paperwork crowded my desk and and dressers, and unread emails clogged my inboxes (yes, inboxES -- plural. I believe somewhere around 10).  It's been two full days, and I have yet to be completely caught up.  I'm making headway, though, so I'm happy.  I'm also very happy to tell you that I wrote a song last night, which is awesome considering the fact that I haven't written anything in a few months.  Due to my hectic and erratic schedule, I really haven't had the chance to sit down and write music (which is the reason I'm in this business). There are a few song ideas and song fragments that have been nagging at me for some time now, but I just couldn't get to them.  As with most things, though, I was struck with a creative spurt, and at 11pm last night started writing a brand new song.  I completed the first draft by about 1am, and am currently listening to the second or third revision that I put on my handheld recorder.  The song is Untitled as of yet; it's a poignant tune about the repercussions of parental abandonment, from the children's and parents' perspectives.  It may be a little too real for some, but sadly, many people can relate to that story these days; I'm not sure, though, if it's ready to be road-tested.  It's still in a raw form, and may have to undergo a few more revisions before I can perform it.

Alas, we come to the end of yet another blog post.  I hope you feel all caught up; I'm going to jump back to catching up with all my online things, and I hope you have an awesome rest of the week...

Very cool news will be coming soon :)
Robbie

Current mood:  awake
It's been a few weeks (I think) since I last posted anything.  A lot has happened in that time frame -- too much, actually, to bore you with. So, I figure I'll give you all the quick rundown of what's going on . . .
It looks as though my relationship with Douglas Booking Intl has ended prematurely.  I can't and won't get into the details, but they ended up not being the kind of people my team and I want to work with or surround ourselves with, so we had to part ways.  With that being said, my team has been busily booking up the beginning part of August, and will be even busier getting local and state shows in September in preparation for the late fall. We hope to be on the road in October and November (and with YOUR help, we can be!).
Outside of that, I will be taking a 10-day trip to Nova Scotia in late August in order to promote my music and name in the maritimes.  Earlier in the year, I met a guy who was eager to help promote me in eastern Canada.  We kept in touch with him, and after much work and deliberation, decided to take the trip up there. I will be hovering around the Halifax area, and will be performing in and around the region until the beginning of September. Shows will be announced.

In other news -- South Florida is officially HOT. Luckily for me, my work keeps me at the computer during the day, but even looking outdoors makes me sweat.  I now know what northerners mean when they say they can't live here because of the summers...Is it global warming? Is it lack of tall, dense trees? I'm not entirely sure. But what I am sure of is the temperature and humidity. And they are off the charts.

Until sooner,
Robbie

My Birthday. Today. I'm 23. Not only am I solidified in my 'in my twenties' status, but this day marks over a year since I've graduated college.
Did I think I'd be here 5 years ago? No. Did I think the music industry would be as crazy as it is 5 years ago? No. Did I think the uphill battle would be as steep and rocky? No. Would I change a single thing had I known? Not at all.

Hope you have a wonderful day.
Robbie

Current mood:  restless
I've been busy. Very busy.  I believe the last blog I wrote dealt with the Florida Music Festival and all its . . . well . . . festivities.  Sitting here now, looking back on that weekend, I feel as though that experience occurred a year ago. Or at LEAST 2, maybe 3 weeks ago. Jeez.
I've been working full days with various people trying to get a few (hundred) ducks in a row in order to keep moving forward.  It may just be me, it may just be this business, it may be several different things, but whatever the case -- I feel that if I don't push ahead at lightning speed, I'm losing ground. I feel like I need to continue to call and email and update to excess, because that's the only way to receive what I would consider "decent" results.  Here's a visual example of what I'm talking about: what is happening now is that I'm running in soft sand.  When someone runs in soft sand, they're exerting a lot of energy, but are moving at a significantly slower pace than the energy exertion should return.  Someone exerting that same forward energy under normal circumstances (i.e. a hard surface like pavement) would move at a pace equal to the amount of energy they're expending.  A simple example, but a near-perfect comparison nonetheless.
On the flipside of that coin: this weekend is going to be awesome.  I have a duo show (drummer and I) on Friday night at 7:00pm in downtown Hollywood, and will be playing with my FULL BAND on Saturday night at the Hollywood Bandshell.  We've been practicing a lot, and are excited to throw out some never-before-heard originals as well as some cover tunes I've never played with a band before.  The fun starts at 7:30pm on Saturday night -- come on out!!

See you there!!!

All of my upcoming shows are conveniently located right here on my MySpace page :) Check them out -- if I'm in your area, I'll see you at the show!

Until Soon,
Robbie

I performed Thursday night at Cafe Annie's.  Great times.  I packed my equipment shortly after my set, and subsequently became the best of bar-hoppers/music connoisseurs.  A few notable performances on Thursday: Mirror Pal, Shawn Fisher & the Jukebox Gypsies. Two great shows, and two great new band discoveries for me.
Friday was amazing.  I was able to check out several incredible acts, including (but not limited to) Plain Jane Automobile, Big 10-4, and the musicians that solidified my resolve and rekindled my love of music making and performance --> Thomas Wynn and The Believers.  If you ever get the chance to see this band: DO SO.
I sit here this morning, with the disgusting background sound of an MTV show ringing in my brain, getting ready for the panel/networking session occuring today at the Gibson Showroom in downtown.  Another great day.

Robbie
