Since I am migrating my contacts from my old Samsung Blackjack to my new iPhone I realized how many contacts I had that I never really talked to. I decided to trim the fat and weed out those I didn't need, but I did have one I still hadn't removed. I still had my friend Thomas' number saved along with the only txt messages I ever saved directly to my SIM. For some reason even a year after he died I still couldn't bring myself to delete his number or those txts.

Tonight I will, it's a sad reminder only for the fact I still smile when I think of the goofy shit I did with him on Thursday nights. I wish there had been more. It's just an entry on the phone and not something I will ever forget.

In my neverending pursuit to find what's old and try to make it new again (especially for music videos), I got a copy of Yazoo's "In Your Room". It had been a while since I heard it, but as soon as this song came on all I could think of is those first twinges of what would become love for my wife back in 2005. It is sappy as hell, but I hope I always react this way when a song makes me think of Lindsey:

It was my first trip in to anesthetic la la land since I had my wisdom teeth extracted by an oral surgeon 8 years ago. I woke up 8 days ago and couldn't smell after having my deviated septum fixed along with a few other housekeeping projects my doctor did.

The recovery really wasn't bad, I've had sore throats that hurt a lot more, but it was really odd not having a sense of smell due to to gel/foam plugs they had place way back in my head. Food tasted like nothing, I could get sense of temperature and sweetness but no flavor at all. With the oxycodone stopping me up like a clogged drain the urge to eat was almost non existant over the first 6 days. I was eating about 1 meal just to make sure I was alive, while drinking tons of water/tang/apple juice. Ditching the pain killers, not being able to taste food has to be one of the best dieting aids I've ever come across! No growling stomach or watering mouth when you smell something tasty, it's just NOT there. I was amazed.

So this AM I went for my first follow up and everything looks great. They removed the gel/foam plugs and voila, I could smell again. It was like being beat in the face with every scent at a Bath & Body Shop all at once. Very overwhelming and a bit nauseating. I guess like most things we tend to tune out certain stimuli over time when they are pervasive, but I was smelling all sorts of things I never recalled before. Once I made it outside I was amused at the earthy smells and stinks that came off the ground and pavement as I walked to my car. It was very surreal.

I just have a few more weekly followups to clean up anything else left behind and hopefully I will breathe easier at night with a cleared airway.

but after setting foot in the booth i knew i wasn't going to be ok tonight. the void i used to enjoy.... not having someone to bump into was permanent.

i don't think i've ever dj'ed with tears in my eyes, but tonight i did. typing this still the finality of it still hasn't set in.
