I can sum up Iamindust 2009 by saying it closely mirrored my HOPES
and FAR EXCEEDED my EXPECTATIONS.
Never have I felt so guided and clear on my mission as I did whilst preparing for this year's festival.
Things that I was 'told' to do at the last minute that in my opinion not only saved us a ll a lot of hassle, but made the event TERRIFICALLY laid back include:
1: Charging NO admission at the door and asking for no donations either. There was no till for money whatsoever! (I would like also to thank ALL THE PERFORMERS for neither asking or expecting payment for their performances...not that they don't richly deserve it!)
2: Handing out free CDs to the attendees rather than attempting to sell them.
(Much easier to manage things when you DON'T have to worry about managing things. Art's so much more fun when you don't expect a financial reward!
And though I got the Octophonic Sound System up and running Friday night, the sets by KWISP and Thomas Dimuzio were sound checked with only 3 separate pairs of stereo speakers rather than the intended 4, and so they both deigned not to complicate matters
and played in Hectaphonic instead.
First KWISP played a full array of technically masterful mayhem ranging from the micro-acoustic to the stupor-sonic. WALTER helmed an array of bent outta shape keys andcomputers and switches and glitches and knobs while LENNY helmed a virtual Xmas tree filled with an electro-acoustic array of instruments fabricated, hybridized and some even transported in from a parallel demntia to serve a melange of dark porpoises that will likely remain forever unknown to the likes of mortal men. The resulting hectaphonic vortex of sound swirling back and forth from front to back and side to side whooshed all 30 of us in the oddience away on a majik carpet ride of zounds whisking us to starnge worlds simultaneously sub-molecular and prenatal.
Next THOMAS DIMUZIO took the stage, seemingly with only a lone electric guitar as his instrument of choice for the evening. BUt any dimuzio listener knows that means NOTHING as Thomas can take that one instrument, multiply its pitch, processing and output by 8 and send all those guitars off into the cosmos to take tours of 8 separate worlds filled with nothing but a continuous series of majestic hallucinatory vistas. And that's not too far afield a description from exactly what he did. And I swear I saw at least one audience member perched on a loft, mind wide open, wings outstretched and eyes closed as he journeyed to all 8 of those planets throughout the course of the whole set.
NOISEPSALM was up next but had to make an unfortunate last-minute cancellation due to a medical emergency during their previous show the night before with...
CURSED CHIMERA who as luck would have it was in the area and thanks to NOISEPSALM's encouragement, offered to play a set for us at IAMINDUST 2009.
And I am SO GLAD he did. C.C. brought some real theatrics to the event, decked out in fully spookish regalia and makeup to boot, unabashedly channeling darkness from his banks of blinking red lights while a skull with flashing red eyes laughed along daemonically behind him all the while. The music was unquantifiably slick, rhythmic and and dark and with lots of distortion and noise oozing out the edges which in some ways reminded me of what early Cevin and Dwayne material might've turned into one day if they'd stuck with that sound a bit longer. The live rendition of Maggot Kitten Mouth" was superb!
The evening's bill ended up not with a URE THRALL performance (because that dude can play like any day of the week if he wished to...) but instead the night's COLLABORATIVE SETS were initiated!
First KWISP, Thomas Dimuzio and CURSED CHIMERA took the stage together for about a 35 minute set together. Then after Ure got a few of his ducks in a row, the 4 way-melee began!
What ensued was an hour and a half of mysterious misty madness, a menage-a-FOUR
very different and unique professional entities dancing together in near-perfect tandem through the glorious universe of endless sonic experimentation.
This is EXACTLY what IAMINDUST is ALL ABOUT for me as the host: taking all the groups and see about getting them to work together in an effort to realize an improvised sonic vision that stands to ultimately become something much GREATER than just the some of their PARTS.
And on this night that goal was truly realized for the 1st time at IAMINDUST...and in UNLIMITED FASHION...
That ends the summary of IAMINDUST 2009 night #1 (September 18th 2009)

ATTENTION Iamindust attendees and performers!
Did you enjoy the quality of the sound system at IAMINDUST?
If so perhaps you would like to hear it put to use again at your own event!
IAMINDUST 09 marked the inception of my new self-run live sound company
which I like to call REALIZE UNLIMITED SOUND TECHNOLOGIES
or simply R.U.S.T. for short.
My little "two-man show" can do any live event MUCH Cheaper than most any sound rental company you can find in the Bay Area. And you can expect a Real sound man with many years of real live sound experience to make sure your event is well miked, mixed and sounds it's very best.
R.U.S.T. can also do on location outdoor events as well!
We offer the use of a True STEREO, QUADROPHONIC, HECTAPHONIC, or OCTOPHONIC sound system (2, 4, 6, or 8 speakers) complete with built in subwoofers based on the size and scope of your event and its sound environment.
The R.U.S.T. sound techs are real sticklers about sound quality and ensuring a full frequency range at every event.
Check out the R.U.S.T. myspace page for more information about this and our numerous other sound related services including our professional Audio MASTERING
and EDITING services.
