Welllllllllllll Helllllllllllllllllllllllll Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,
What a year 2008 was, first of all I hope everyone had a fantastic christmas and raised more than a few festive beers, this is my opportunity to wish you all a fantastic 2009.
So much has happened over the last 12 months its crazy, the snowball that is The DJ Beerman Show has grown and grown and 2009 seems to be a year of opportunity to expand on the success of 2008.
First off I have to say thanks all the bands we featured over the last 12 months (well over 200 bands and artists) without the new music and breaking talent we do not have the show that has grown so popular, also many thanks to the dedicated listeners, not only on the live show but those who religiously download the Podcast giving us top popularity in I Tunes, watching the show increase with the listeners and downloads really gives us pride in what we do.
Special thanks have to go to MrsJ, her work on the show is tireless and putting up with me would test the patience of a saint, without her there definately would not be a show, her work with the bands is second to none and when I sound clever with my music knowledge or gig info on air it is usually cause Mrs has told me the info 2 minutes before so a big Helllllllllll Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh to the best Producer any DJ could ask for.
2008 saw many firsts with us bringing loads of world debut plays of new music from artists proving The DJ Beerman Show is the only place to hear new music first!!!!!
2008 also saw the birth of Top Rock Radio, the home of The DJ Beerman Show allowing us to be able to throw an entire station behind supporting the artists we feature and the very first weekly online radio chart decided entirely by listener requests (a feat we are very proud of). We are still learning and evolving but will strive to bring the best listening experience available to the listeners.
There were many memorable events of 2008 and I will indulge myself by sharing some of these with you,
One event that I think will stay with me forever was the VW Festival Leeds, helll sack racing and more beer than a brewery, we got up there and made our way to the VIP camp (thanks to Headliners Voodoo Johnson) so there I was driving along in my little Fiesta but the roads wern't marked very clearly so off I went over the pedestrian walkway with people diving for cover, well it was a shortcut and worked for me before pulling up at "Camp Voodoo". Priorities were important and I had planned well, popping the boot releasing enough camping gear for an Everest assault I knew exactly where the beer was and boy that beer tasted good, beer in hand it was time to work out how to put a tent up, a couple more beers perusing the instructions I was ready to begin and carefully laid down the tent and started pegging much to the belittlement of my children who's tents had been up 10 minutes and looked slightly out of shape but habitable (theres a reason for me mentioning the fact they found it funny I took so long doing my tent) anyways about an hour later I stood back and my temporary dwelling looked just like it did on the box, that deserved another beer!!! I was very proud of my erection (Oh no ya cant pitch a tent without the erection jokes so a good hour was taken discussing the size of each others erections) plenty of barbecue food and more beer before.... The heavens opened, helllllll typical British summer, we had never seen so much rain in our lives, dripping it was time to move to the marquee in the centre of Camp Voodoo for more drinking (in retrospect it wasn't a good idea to drag the camp fire in the marquee but the rain kept putting it out!) wet and innebriated we enjoyed the music and drank till the early hours of the morning before crawling into our tents (I was surprised how warm and dry it was in there and slept like a baby even though I had managed to pull the ligaments in my back) upon waking up I heard complaints from the kids tents (here it comes) and smug mode was engaged when they crawled out of their portable swimming pools, yup in a hasty setting up they had forgotten to put the flap on the top and left a large hole open to all the rain (and they wern't the only ones) Ohhhhhhhhhh Happy days.
Another highlight of 2008 was the Rock Against Child Pornography Concert at The Old Salutation Inn in Nottingham. The RACP Teams dedication and hard work to such a worthy cause is amazing and they sure know how to put on a damn good concert so show em some love here
www.myspace.com/rockagainstchildporno
The RACP Concert led to one of the hardest interviews I have ever had to conduct, emotions were high and I have huge regard for Beth and Carmen, the whole team are golden.
Of course the interviews were not all I had brought home with me from the RACP Concert, after taking a trip down to the 9th century Anglo Saxon Caves in Britains Most Haunted Rock Venue we brought home a rather nasty spirit who thought it would be amusing to wipe the radio databases while we were live on air with the recorded footage taken from the event, 6 days later and back on air I tried to play the footage from the haunted caves again and eerily the track died at exactly the same point each time. It was time to call the experts and I was soon on the phone to Alison over at The Old Sal explaining my predicament, 10 minutes later and fully cleansed everything worked fine but was I leaving it there???????? Oh no not The Beerman. So on the 16th November we returned to The Old Sal and we did not return alone!!! Two of the finest Paranormal Investigators (Alan & Selina), a Medium (Paul) and of course members of The Rock Fraternity namely The Jackal and Isis from Anubis and Kev from Hanging Doll were among the investigation team recruited to discover the frightening truth about the caves. Video footage of our discoveries will be coming very soon!!!!! Prepare to be SCARED!!!!!!!!!!!!
Theres a link to Haunted Happenings on the Top Rock Radio main page if you are brave enough to enter the caves yourself.
One of the best parts of being a DJ is going to the best shows and events and my excitement was evident when also in November we made our way to the SPiT LiKE THiS launch of their debut album "We Won't Hurt You (But We Wont Go Away)" Wow what a night it had everything Cake, Burlesque, Comedy, Magic, Air Guitaring and fantastic music. A huge mention at this point to The Silk Stocking Striptease Show and what a show if ya have never had the pleasure of watching entertainment at its best check em out here.

That was definately a night to remember including my debut as a TV Interviewer for OMC TV, I have to say SPiT LiKE THiS were such a pleasure to interview and I think it came out really well gaining plays on many of the top US metal and rock websites with huge acclaim (who would have thought Panty Liners could be so much fun) and then there was the Air Guitar Competition to win Vikki Spits Bass Guitar, now little Dan had his heart set on a bass guitar for Christmas and here was my opportunity to bring him one early so he could ask Santa for another present, so up I went and let rip with my best air guitaring (using the patent Carl Gethin Swivel Finger Power Chord Pose) and yup I won :P. Danny was a very very happy lad on that sunday morning I can tell ya) One day the footage may appear on You Tube ya never know lol.
As far as highlights of 2008 go the ultimate has to be Black Scorpion Promotions Metal Xmas (or The Beermans Birthday Bash as it has become known). This has to rank as one of the best gigs ever, 5 amazing bands supplied the music to a jam packed Old Wharf in Birmingham, it really was a trip back to the old days when venues would be full of sweaty metal heads arm in arm with heads a banging, Dawn and Ian sure know how to put an event on in style and they baked The Beerman an awesome Birthday Cake (a Beer shaped cake of course) and to top it all we set the Guiness World Record for "The Biggest Heavy Metal Morris Dance" (so many drunk rockers waving toilet paper around it was unbelievable Helllll Yeahhhhhhhhhhh) as far as atmospheres go I havn't experience anything like that Saturday in December at The Old Wharf since the 1980's (I think planning for next year, oops this year! is already underway)
Keep ya eyes open for more of Black Scorpion Promotions Events here.
