The Rev. Jimmie Bratcher To Perform at Popular Texas Blues Concert Series on August 15
Harlingen, TX – Gifted bluesman, the Rev. Jimmie Bratcher will be the headline performer at the Blues on the Hill concert series in Harlingen, Tex. on August 15, 2009. Sponsored by KMBH Radio, Blues on the Hill plays host to fans from all over the Rio Grande Valley who gather to hear top national and international blues performers. Bratcher will perform songs from his upcoming CD, The Electric Rev, which will release on August 11, 2009 on Ain’t Skeert Tunes.
"I've been spinning the Rev. Jimmie Bratcher on the radio for the about a year now...what hooked me was the stingin' full-bodied guitar riffs, his very souful voice and the songwriting elements that give a positive message about life in general,” comments Chris Maley, Program Manager at KMBH Radio and Entertainment Coordinator of the Blues on the Hill concert series.
Pastor, evangelist, author, singer, songwriter and guitarist, "The Rev" preaches in churches every Sunday, but on Saturday nights you'll find him sharing his amazing testimony and blistering guitar licks onstage in blues clubs and at music festivals, prisons and biker rallies.
Bratcher's brand of the blues has been embraced by the Christian market and the mainstream blues industry alike, allowing him to play at both Christian music festivals such as Creation East, Creation West Coast and Rock the Light, and at blues festivals such as Simply the Blues Festival and Boxcar Full of Blues. He has appeared at venues along with Christian artists including Mercy Me, Newsboys and Third Day, and with blues greats including Grammy winner and NARAS Lifetime Achievement Award winner David “Honeyboy” Edwards, Blues Music Award winners Zac Harmon and Otis Taylor, and Livin’ Blues Gold Award winner Hubert Sumlin, one of Rolling Stone’s “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.”
According to Blues Revue Magazine, Bratcher's upcoming release, The Electric Rev, "...erupts with a blast of righteously down-home funk. It's as if Ray Charles has been reincarnated in the body of a character from a Woody Allen movie."
Produced by legendary Grammy Award-winning producer Jim Gaines (Carlos Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Journey) and Nashville’s Mike O’Neil, The Electric Rev showcases performances that are both intimate and raw. From the New Orleans street march of “Green Bananas” to the Sunday morning sound of “Pray for Me,” The Electric Rev speaks the language of the blues with a spirit that touches the heart and soul. The CD's opening cut, "Call On Me," urges those struggling in their lives and marriages to call on Jesus, letting them know that He is there with them through their darkest hour, all over a sweet gospel groove. “When the Blues Come” and “One Rock” express Bratcher’s love and respect for the blues, while the dobro-driven songs “Elijah’s Road” and “How Far Down” come straight from the soul of a man who knows just how far down the bottom is.
Bratcher, who serves as the bandleader and frequent commentator for the new Sky Angel/TBN TV show "Love, Marriage and Stinking Thinking," is driven by the desire to point as many people as possible to the reality of the love that God has for them. “The blues is my most effective way to communicate,” says Bratcher.
The Rev. Jimmie Bratcher’s The Electric Rev will be available on Ain’t Skeert Tunes on August 11, 2009. For more information on Jimmie Bratcher and his new album, The Electric Rev, visit www.jimmiebratcher.com.
The Blues on the Hill concert series will be held in McKelvey Park, 1325 South 77 Sunshine Strip in Harlingen, Tex. From 6:00 – 10:00 p.m.

Jimmie Bratcher – Wednesday, November 19, 2008 Cleaning my office listening to Kelly Joe Phelps sing Cyprus Grove
Found my Bible again today, covered in dust there it lay Maybe I should wipe it off open it and read?
Leather cover, paper page, and life's living inside Think I'll dust it off open it and read?
If I read then I can change to the image Jesus gave I believe I will pick it up open it and read.
Worked hard today it's time to sleep another day I didn't read Tomorrow I will take the time open it and read.
Found my Bible a month away, covered in dust there I lay When will I pick it up open it and read?
Jesus forgive, what can I say, covered in dust years away Wish I'd dusted it, open it and read.

A friend of mine wrote this. It spoke to me...
LEAP!
And shall I go on being casual and numb? Pretending Pretending that I know something about this being I so glibly call God Or shall I dare to encounter Him? Him The One with whom I have to do The One who can never be an object Forever and always the eternal subject Is it grammar or a much deeper truth? The object is acted upon but the subject acts God is not in my story—I am in His How is it I can be unaware of this? Did I think I invented this story called being? Surely I'm not that crazy I belong to His story History But there is my story Mystery God is no object—only and ever a subject The Subject You cannot trivialize The Subject to ology or ism You can only be aware or oblivious Of the One who alone possesses innate beingness The most obvious of all truth But all truth inheres in subjectivity Oh! Subjectivity Where passion is permitted Where we are in the story Where we care Instead of aloof and comfortably numb Subjectivity is passion Faith is passion Life is passion Sanity is passion Objectivity is numb Empiricism is numb Death is numb Madness is numb Passion saves My soul From numbness Prose Prozac Prosaic Ordinary Medicated Unimaginative Passionless being Passion saves Poetic prophetic extraordinary imaginative Passionate being Passion saves To believe is to be passionate Passion is found in the instant of the leap When you leap beyond the fence (Objectivity) Into the Lion's pretense (Subjectivity) Will He kill you or let you live? Either way you are alive in that moment You are not cool or "cool" One is dispassionate the other is self-conscious In that moment you are neither You are passionate and engaged LEAP! Leap the security barrier of objectivity Into the presence of the Being Himself It's the only hope you have of saving your life Leprosy is not what you think it is It doesn't eat you It's only numbness But numbness will destroy you LEAP! Before it's too late Before the leprosy takes your legs away Before the creeping numbness takes your soul away LEAP! The Leap of faith That jumps the objective To encounter the Subject Where passion lives Because now there is nothing between you and the Lion And you know you live because you feel your heart beat And you know you live because He lets you live No more numbness Passion saves LEAP!
