KCRW Collects 'Covers' For Starbucks Release

Starbucks is getting eclectic in a collaboration with California radio station KCRW for Sounds Eclectic The Covers Project. The 15-track compilation features performances from R.E.M., Robert Plant, k.d. lang and Damien Rice and will be sold exclusively at select Starbucks locations starting March 13.

Material for the set was culled from the station's revered live show "Morning Becomes Eclectic," hosted by music director Nic Harcourt. A portion of sales will aid the station's effort to digitize its music library.

"The Covers Project" also includes M. Ward's version of David Bowie's "Let's Dance," the Flaming Lips' rendition of "Knives Out" by Radiohead and the Magic Numbers' take on Beyonce's "Crazy in Love."

The Flaming Lips cover Radiohead

Wayne Coyne and co. tackle "Knives Out"

 

The Flaming Lips are due to cover Radiohead's "Knives Out" for a new compilation album. "Sounds Eclectic: The Covers Project" also features The Magic Numbers covering Beyonce's "Crazy' in Love," REM covering Glen Campbell's "Gentle on My Mind" and Paul Weller's version of Rose Royce's "Wishing on a Star."

 

The album will be sold in selected US Starbucks locations from March 13.  The tracks were culled from US radio station KCRW's "Morning Becomes Eclectic" show.  A portion of the sales will aid the station's effort to digitilise its' music library, reports Billboard.

 

A UK release date is yet to be announced.
