Current mood:  accomplished
Didn't she sound awesome yesterday at Downtown Live?

This is L.C. and yes, I am the "new guy."  I'm gonna be keeping up the Myspace page and staying in touch with ya'll a little better.

I know the BLeEdING HeArTS have been a little out of sight for a while but we've never been out of your mind right?  Maybe a little out of our minds a time or two. Wait, what did you hear?

Downtown Live yesterday was my second "official" show with the guys, not counting the "emergency fill-in" back in January (which rocked by the way).  I wanted to tell you all that it was a truly fabulous day and wanted to thank everyone that came up, threw their fists in the air, and rocked their asses with us.  We all loved signing the t-shirts and the free hugs.  If anyone shoulda been signing tshirts it shoulda been you all singing ours!  As for the hugs... you all realize it was like 90 degrees in the shade and we played 5 sets right? Boy was it hot!  We are glad we played for everyone and met lots of new friends.  We think we found our target audience... so to all the sunburned, beer drinking, peeing on Jimbo's guitar case rock fans that were there with us yesterday... we know who you are! and we look forward to seeing you on July 25th at The Pour House in Raleigh.  Right after CHARLIE DANIELS!

So we released this CD:

We did this CD Release Party at the Pour House in Raleigh:

On June 20th we went on a little East Coast Mini Tour which started with Dave driving us safely and then us wandering around Brooklyn:

Photobucket

Photobucket

We hung out with Chip Robinson and drank a bit at Clem's. Then we played at The Trash Bar in Williamsburg (pictures to come) with our favorite band Heap as well as FF, Mighty Fine and Cementhead. Heap did a little bit of our song "Nothin' On But The Radio " in the middle of their song "Explode Tonight." Thanks guys!!!!

Dave & I spent a quiet night at my Mom's house and then went to meet Sam & Jimbo at Yankee Stadium the next afternoon.

Sam groped Joba Chamberlain:

>

We had a massive rain delay (hurricane force, if you will) while Jimbo & Sam got wasted at the bowling alley across the street:
Photobucket

This is as close as they got to The Stadium:
Photobucket

They met this girl named Edie from Philadelphia who pulled a Spiderman move and scaled the subway platform to hang our stickers way up high:
Photobucket

And made Bleeding Hearts sunglasses:
Photobucket

Then we got on the subway to the Village for some awesome Japanese food on Saint Mark's Place:
Photobucket

Later that night Sam cracked a rib and Jimbo sprained his ankle while they were drunk wrestling in Cold Spring, NY. I don't have any pictures of this, just the ones burned into my brain.

On Monday, we left for Philly and I read something shallow. Very shallow.:
Photobucket

We played at The Khyber in Philadelphia that night with The Lonely H and Sikamor Rooney. Those guys are great.
Photobucket

We went and got a cheesesteak and then headed to Baltimore to a hotel. The next day we went shopping, played pool and drank Natty Boh's...
Photobucket

Then we played at The Ottobar with The Sex Slaves, Filthy Rotten Sex Machine and King Belvedere. Erica Steimetz, Monty Warren and Hunter Spanks showed up and we played. Jocelyn fed us some awesome pie/pizza, salad and wine. The Yankees got their asses handed to them as Dave watched backstage...
Photobucket

We came back home.

That was a lot of fun. There are a lot of things not in this blog and some lasting memories for the four of us, but you guys don't need to know everything now, do you? More pictures to come.

Thanks everyone.

Until next time -
Sam, Joe, Dave and Jimbo

The day you've all been waiting for....the national release of The Bleeding Hearts sophomore album, Nothin' On But The Radio (Doublenaught Records)....Tuesday, June 17! In honor of the occasion, why not pop down to Schoolkids Records 2712-100 Hillsborough St, the triangle's oldest independently owned record store, and buy a copy. I'd make your Momma proud! And if you don't live in NC try your own local record store.....but not WAL MART!

Wow, that was a great fucking time and a success for The Bleeding Hearts. We just got back a couple of days ago from our little trip through Brooklyn, Manhattan and Boston. Luckily all three shows were amongst the best we have ever played and we met so many cool people. Marco took some pictures in Manhattan and we should have those for you in the upcoming days.

We were lucky enough to be treated like kings and play to good crowds as well as with and in front of some rock legends.

Thanks to the venues:

Hank's Saloon in Brooklyn
Continental in NYC
Abbey Lounge in Boston

The bands we played with:

HEAP
Guns On The Run
The L.E.S. Stitches
Kid Casanova
Walter Lure & the Waldos
Red Invasion
Diamond Mines
The Heart Attacks
and of course our traveling companion Richard Bacchus.

At times it felt like a Lollapalooza press junket with various members of other bands in our van.

Thanks to all those that attended including:

Jeff Magnum (of the Dead Boys)
Little Steven Van Zandt (Bruce Springsteen, The Sopranos)
Jesse Malin
and Chip Fuckin' Robinson

Thanks to Mick Stitch of The LES Stitches and Kevin of Kid Casanova for putting us up in Queens on Thursday and all of the cool people and beautiful Eastern European girls we met on Queens Blvd while we were killing time on Friday.

Thanks to Tim Heap and Cindy for the accomodations Friday night in Brooklyn, George Chambers of Heap for his floor space in Brooklyn Saturday and Joey from Red Invasion for letting us crash in Boston.

Thanks to Richard Bacchus for alerting us about the special New York Dolls performance at the South Street Seaport right before we played in Brooklyn Friday Night. We were able to attend and then rush back on the subway to our van and then to the gig. It may not be all of the original Dolls, but damn if Johansen and Syl Sylvain didn't sound great and seeing Sami Yaffa of Hanoi Rocks playing bass was fucking awesome. Having Walter Lure of Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers playing with us the next night made it about as complete as can be when three members of a band are dead.

Speaking of Sami, thanks to him for putting Ricky Bacchus up for a couple of nights so that I didn't have to deal with him anymore than I already did. Just kidding Ricky, it was a blast hanging out with you for four days! Ricky has played with DGeneration, Dee Dee Ramone and Murphy's Law over the years, so there were some great road stories to keep us busy in the van.

Thanks to Noel, the legendary soundman for The Continental for being so good at what he does and for being so kind in his praise of our band. For someone that has seen so many bands over the years, his compliments hold a lot of weight to us. We felt like we did what we had to do in our NYC debut and he confirmed it (as if Walter Lure saying to me "I heard your band is really good" wasn't enough). Thanks, man. We hope to have the pleasure of being in your hands wherever you may do sound after The Continental stops having bands in the near future.

Thanks to The Stitches for reuniting and showing why they should be back together permanently (which is becoming a reality) and to HEAP and Kid Casanova for blowing us away and forging an amazing future for the NYC rock scene. Check out both of those bands on "Top Friends" page. They are both as good as they come. While you're at it, check out Red Invasion from Boston, too. Young Boys playing Old Glam. Nice.

Thanks to Marco and Luva for driving up to see us and to Luva for the ridiculous amount of shots that she forced us to drink after performance at Continental.

Last but not least, thanks to Jimbo, Sam and Scott for joining me on this journey. I think we all know that we left a good impression and it's an absolute pleasure to be in a band with the three of you. These were the most important shows we have done and we couldn't have done a better job. Fuck yeah!

No thanks to gas prices, NYC traffic, the assholes at The Holland Tunnel, the cleanliness that eluded us, the smell in the van and the fucking hellacious amount of miles of road between Boston and Raleigh.

In closing and on a sad note we arrived back in town Tuesday to the news of the tragic death of our friend and fellow Raleigh musician, Nathan Davis. Nathan was a friend of mine for whom I had the utmost respect musically. He was one of those natural born talents with a truth to his voice that can only come naturally through life experiences. There is still some mystery as to what happened, but the bottom line is that Raleigh has lost one of it's finest talents and his music will be missed. I am proud to have had the chance to sit around and play guitar with him and to have the pleasure of him turning to me on numerous occasions for my opinions on new songs that he would have. I will miss him.

Nathan left behind a young daughter and arrangements have been set up to help out with her future through the sales of Nathan's albums. There is also a special memorial happening in Raleigh Tuesday night where people are playing his songs and speaking about him. All of the details are on his Myspace page and on his official website. I have put his MySpace on our Top Friends list so that it can be easily accessible. Also, see the links below. Please try to support his memory and his daughter's future if you can.

From edgemagazineonline.com by Jen Conrad: The Bleeding Hearts - “Stayin’ After Class” - Abray Records I gotta tell y’all that I’m THRILLED with the local talent we’ve got here in good ol’ NC! The Bleeding Hearts are another local band I’d like to introduce you to! You guys in the Raleigh area have probably heard of these guys before! But for those of you, who haven’t…it’s time you did! I had the opportunity of seeing their live show several weeks back as they opened for the Butch Walker vs. American Hi-Fi tour. Man, what a perfect fit for the show! You know how much I love Butch…AND I love American Hi-Fi…and now…yep…I’m really digging on The Bleeding Hearts too! They’ve got a sound that’s old school rock and punk with an updated flavor. I can clearly hear their Kiss influence…add some Cheap Trick, Ramones and The Stones…and I swear every now and then, some of their guitar riffs even remind me of Pat Benatar and maybe a little Rick Springfield! Keep listening, though, because there are many more influences embedded in their sound! Not since Jet hit the scene, have I heard a band so willing to tattoo their influences so clearly on their music…while still making it their own. I love it! So…I’m thinking…they’re clearly my kind of dudes! But, hey, I already knew that when I saw their show! The Bleeding Hearts are fronted by vocalist/guitarist Sam Madison. Sam has been around the NC music scene since the early 80s in various bands…but has finally landed somewhere with a purpose! That purpose is to have some fun and play in a “kick ass rock and roll band.” He’s definitely found that second part! Sam is joined by guitarist/vocalist Joe Yerry, bassist/vocalist Jim Britt, and drummer/vocalist Scott Taylor. These guys have some major chemistry and have gotten quite a bit of press since their first show back in the Spring of 2003. I’m telling you…there’s a reason for this! So now…let’s talk about their music a little more! Like I mentioned…old school with an updated swagger! This disc is their first release…and I’m hoping the first of many! These guys are great storytellers…and you’ll probably re-live quite a few memories or swear you know some of the people they’re talking about while listening to this record! They give you 13 tunes to choose from, but my favorite tunes include ‘Hater,’ ‘Wanted’ (first single from the album currently being played on WKNC) and ‘Big Girl’…but it sure is a tough decision!!! And one more thing before I go…one more hint of the old school flavor of this band is the cover of this album… a school locker…Charlie’s Angels (the ORIGINAL Angels…yes, with Farrah) pinup, vinyl records, Jack Daniels, KISS photo…hell yeah…am I back in high school?! Except, of course, for the Charlie’s Angels pinup… In any case…this is a great record! Try to hook yourselves up with a copy of this one or definitely try to make one of their shows! The disc will be out nationally in October. It will be available at local record stores, at their live shows or online at www.thebleedinghearts.net.

Stayin' After Class, our debut CD is now available online through our website. Just go to www.thebleedinghearts.net and click on the MERCH button. The process is usually quite speedy. We also got a bunch of new shirts today, including pink and black babydolls and 3/4 sleeve baseball shirts. As usual, all of that stuff is also available at our shows. Thanks, Joe www.thebleedinghearts.net

Hey, just wanted to let everyone around the Raleigh area know that we are playing at Sadlack's on Hillsborough Street at 6pm. This will be a different kind of show for us. We're doing two sets -- playing our whole catalog and pulling out some obscure covers by the likes of Cheap Trick, Blondie, Buick MacKaine, New York Dolls, Kiss and one other artist that's not an influence at all, but wrote one of your favorite songs from the Eighties. I'll keep that one a surprise. The show is free. Come on out, drink some beers (or not) and see us out on the porch. The address is 2216 Hillsborough at the intersection of Hillsborough and Enterprise across from NC State and the Belltower. Till then - Joe The Bleeding Hearts www.thebleedinghearts.net

Cool article written by Chris Parker in this week's Independent. C O V E R F E A T U R E Twelve bands not to miss The Bleeding Hearts www.thebleedinghearts.net In the rock n' roll universe, the number of bands that cite Cheap Trick, Kiss and The Ramones as being among their primary influences is inestimably large. Most of those bands will never make it beyond the bars of their conception, essentially because their devotion to the guitar-wielding rock gods is taken as a sonic prescription, not a suggestion of direction. The Bleeding Hearts certainly owe a good deal of their rock n' roll spirit to those aforementioned forebears, but this Raleigh-to-the-core four-piece of Sam Madison, Jimbo Britt, Joe Yerry and Scott Taylor manages to transcend the banality and redundancy of their peers thanks to pitch-perfect guitars and Madison's ambitious, playful and seasoned songwriting. In fact, the band's hot-off-the-press debut, Stayin' After Class, is a concept album, which finds Madison chasin' the girls and tellin' their dirty tales during his high school tenure. Madison is never hot for the teacher, but the band's old school rock swagger plays out like Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick and Judas Priest mixed in the mind of a teenage troublemaker, brewed way down south and seasoned with more than a sprinkling of '80s glam swagger. Madison--a veteran of Man Will Destroy Himself, Big Dixie and The Usuals--wrote the songs after first practicing with the three New York transplants and Hearts to be, dealing with a decade-old divorce for the first time in his songwriting. Word of the band spread like wildfire for their first two local gigs, and they netted a record deal with Charlotte-based MoRisen Records after their third set. That fell through in late 2003, though, and the band was free to release Stayin' After Class--a record that somehow glimpses a life of two decades ago with all attitude, no nostalgia--by their damn selves. Chris Parker From Joe - One side note, the album has been released by New York's Abray Records. It gets a more widespread release in the next couple of months. Oh and nobody really understands the Judas Priest reference. Great article though, thanks to Chris Parker and the Independent Weekly.

Alright, so here we are on day three and I'm starting to get the hang of it. I got some songs posted tonight from our debut album. It's amazing to me the domino effect that MySpace has with people finding you and signing up. I also added some more pictures. Thanks everyone - Joe The Bleeding Hearts
