As the sillier than thou season hots up, and the Realistics narrow down their search for a new bass player in readiness to record their new LP, Phil is working on his next solo CD, probably to be called 'The Cheese Stands Alone.'The first listen from this album is up on the MySpace page for your listening pleasure- "3 WEEKS TILL THE END OF THE WORLD!"

The Realistics are now actively looking for a new bass player. We are going into the studio to start recording our album, and Phil will play some bass, but we also hope to try out some other players as we record...so, if you know someone, please send 'em our MySpace link and hook us up.

We just played our last gig with 'The Bassist with the Mostest', Cousin Ronnie. He has decided to take a big break from music and we wish him all the best. Personally, for me, it will be very strange to look left and not have him onstage anymore, and I'm not looking forward to it at all. Ronnie and I have been playing together pretty steadily for the last 10 years, through The Conrays, plus my initial CD Launch band two years ago, The Realistics, and countless party bands. In fact, our first ever gig together was a Wedding. We wont be the same without him, and I for one say Thanks Mate, couldn't have done it without you!

We played a showcase set @ The Fox Hotel in Collingwood the other night, for the PBS fm band comp. Great venue, with a cool vibe and nice folks running it. Thanks to Maddy and Andrew from PBS, Jay for the sound, Bridie for promising us another gig there (stay tuned for details) and good mate Paul Rogers for taking some snappy shots. Pics here.

Finally getting some gigs for the band... The Melbourne Entertainment scene is fast becoming a snob-wasteland of itinerant fuddlers who couldn't organise a fart in a bottle...
BUT..there are still some groovy venues with absolute pleasures of people to deal with...well, like the happy Fox Hotel in Collingwood (Thurs. June 25 9pm), and mysterious Scarab Bar in Belgrave (Sat. July 4 10pm)...and what about the wunnerful Burrinja Cafe in Upwey (Fri. Aug.7 8.30pm) You see? There's still hope. As in, hope to see you @ a gig real soon! Cheers.

The Fire Resistance Benefit @ The Mount D. Hotel was a triumph! What a huge day of music and goodwill. These days, the only time we see so many friends and colleagues all together seems to be @ funerals, so it was great to have everyone under the one roof and groovin'. This selfless benefit has managed to raise a few thousand dollars for our local CFA crews, and it was fantastic to be a part of it. Our set was very well received, and we sold a few CDs into the bargain, before Andy Cowan and his band played a crackin' set which brought the house down. The wunnerful Janette Geri presented a shining performance which hushed the crowd, Phil Manning was a revelation as he told stories, played and sang through his set. It was also great to see Phil Smith's old band Wild Turkey back @ the Mount D. after 11 years. 11 years? What's going on? Huge kudos must go to Mr. Alex Legg for organising us all and playing a blistering set of songs himself, and to all @ The Mount D. Well Done everybody!
