i'm about fucking done with all this... and if i have to endure another emo wanna be top 40 cover band i'm gonna fucking murder somebody! chain wallets, vests without shirts, and fucking 80's punk rock wig haircuts do not make your music worth a shit. furthermore, rhyming pain and rain is against the fucking rules... check the handbook douche!
have a nice day

(this is a little belated, but i've been busy)

just got back to texas after several shows in other slightly more attractive spots on the map...

albuquerque is what it is, but thanks to the kindness of friends and scientists we were able to circumvent the blackbird's idea of ten percent. motel 6 smelled of stale cigarettes, but the view was immaculate! well rested we journeyed on, stopping briefly to murder the roadside casino buffet... deluxe!

flagstaff proved mildly treacherous as i managed to wreck the van. turns out even the slightest tap can render $1800 in damage to a late 90's toyota camary. the word 'fleecing' comes to mind. great times in spite of it! excellence in the casey surprise and great folks in the form of drew, sherri, tyler, and melissa to add to the already choice jon and shelli cocktail... flagstaff show was tops, and mia's was a first class joint! the following day woke to the wind in the pines, drank mimosas on the the porch all afternoon, and ended our evening with a yellowdog journey to the meadows beneath mt humphreys. magical was the keyword, and magical it was!

vegas found us buying a new rear tire, and fighting for sanity through an impromptu set muddled with bad samples. (aside: did what we could to accommodate you once, sir. never again.) moving on... sunday arrived with us chilling in good company, great friends we've not seen in a while, and always a pleasure! can't thank these boys enough for their hospitality, and the sunday evening set was far more relaxed and enjoyable. wish vegas was closer 'cause i'd love to see you cats more often!

a little down time between venues so we traveled southern utah taking in the sites of zion and arches nat'l parks. you'll notice looking at our tour pics that this and other scenery's the subject. enjoy!

let's talk for a moment about vail, colorado... shall we? we arrived on a tuesday evening during the off season, and murdered the samana lounge! turns out vail goes hard! mad, jubilant gracias to scott for the excellent suite at the sitzmark lodge, for bringing folks in and warming up the room for us w/the bonfire trio, and for then sitting in on percussion during our set thereby propelling it into the stratosphere! wicked good times, and best show of the tour!!! we'll be seeing you folks during peak season... count on it!

onward to arvada/denver stopping to chow in kittredge at a place called bear creek tavern & country dining. shut your mouth! grub and scenery were sensational... holler at me, i'll tell you all about it!

trickled by red rocks for some daydreaming before heading on into denver. someday, kids... someday.

managed an open jam session the night before our show at d-note... also wicked good times! broke down a few jams and rocked them three-piece!
d-note show went sticky fingers sessions style... soaked to the bone with sweat we tore through a mad set of bump and grind favorites while long lost friends and new acquaintances churned it up on the dance floor. couldn't have done it without you, and thank you so much!

a short trek the long way around and we were back in the box @ pm for the raging tour closer. anyone who knows lbk tx in the summertime knows that it's scarce, but hometown fans managed to pack it in! a true pleasure to end such an amazing stretch!

check the pics.
catch us when we come back through.

not trying to take away from the players and their talent, but why is EVERYBODY rehashing and "perfecting" the emo-radio sound for themselves?
am i really the only cat who's sick of this?
talk it out...
duh d-duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duuuuuh duh (and now let's drop the half-time beat/same riff)
hasn't anybody been paying attention?
or am i just 'washed up'?
i've heard this band before!
more than twice
but kids who can play wanna do just this to "get picked up"
wow...
don't get me wrong, get paid!
but at what cost?
who are your influences?
and does anybody remember psychedelic drugs?
why did music begin the journey to shape and refine our lives if we're only looking to recycle something commercial?
just saying...
i'm that kid who would rather take a journey.
would rather be wrapped in new yet comfortable layers of love than po-goed into simplicity.
but i've been told i'm jaded
no really... more than once
do what you like
listen to what you like
but my favorite part of the drive home from college station was the pink floyd marathon
just saying...

so, i have some issues, and i'm a horrible drunk. rage + jager = asshole!

i sincerely can't believe i still have friends sometimes.

on that note...

thank you to the people who tolerate my tumultuous, idiotic, roller coaster joyride i call me. especially when i've been hitting the sauce.

i guess that makes this day one on the long road to recovery.

some reviews we found of us written by the dallas observer's music writer:

House of Blues's Local Music Showcase
Saturday, Jan. 10, at the House of Blue
John Lewis Band, Egress, Fatty Lumpkin and Spivey are playing. Saw Spivey once and hated it. The others? I can't say much about them. But congrats to them all for landing a gig that will forever remain on their press kits. This is your high risk/high reward option for the weekend, folks.
From : Jan 9 2009 by:Pete Freedman

This is from Feb 14th, 2008:
Closer to home and later in the night, I saw Spivey at The Cavern. Maybe I woulda been more into this electro-jam duo with Roger Clyne-meets-Bono vocals if it were playing to a bigger crowd (there was next to no one at The Cavern; it was like a private show), but I just wasn't really feeling it. I give them tons of credit for the fact that they played a reported three-hour set, but while listening to them, I couldn't shake this image from my head. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I guess. -- Pete Freedman

kisses, pete!
everyone knows that once they're on your radar they're practically famous!

P.S. It's funny how he went from being not too into it in Feb. 08 to hating us in Jan. 09.
We have that effect on people. Kisses, Pete!

perspective
it's a strange and interesting thing being a musician
not like a jack-of-all-trades cat who jams with anyone, and has played 'brown eyed girl' seven thousand times to throngs of fickle drunks. not like a genre poaching may-be who's attire and coiffure speaks louder than their soul. not like i have no one who cares and nothing better to do let's piss in bottles while laying waste to the countryside in our wretched old van that granny parked two decades ago. not that i hate those examples.
but that's not who we are.
perhaps a bit awkward in our own skin and star struck on occasion. perhaps naive and reaching for the closest definition of success we can muster from our experiences. perhaps jaded and too old and tired for the same routine.
but do i believe in the sounds we conjure? the answer is always an emphatic, "yes!"
do i think it takes more than blind luck and superficial posturing to achieve the bliss and awe those sounds inspire? again, "yes!"
am i willing to sacrifice what's easy and instantaneous for the less glorified path of hard work and even harder proving grounds that often sap your energy and confidence to the extent that you wonder why you ever sought this strange life? you know the answer...
my studies of music did not occur within the hallowed walls of some esteemed institution. i carry no paper or proper credit for the love in my heart. i have taken many natural and chemical derivatives that enhanced my enjoyment of music, and altered my perceptions of truth and value.
i am now and have always been dazzled by rhythm and melody. it is here that i find what becomes the complementary structure behind the skeletal musings presented to me by ryan. it is there that i find release beyond what i've conjured alone for many years prior. it is in becoming and facilitating the expression of my friend's ideas that i am... happy.
happiness, fickle in its very existence and definition. yet tangible night after night in dark and lonely venues where the only face i recognize is across the stage from me pouring what's left of his heart into stranger's ears while i orchestrate dynamic undertones. the same face that will share a smoke with me after the gear's been packed and we're back on the road saying, "good show tonight man".
perspective
when it's all said and done. when i've spit my last, bitter, angry reduction back at the landscape that greeted me, not with cushiony bosom, but barren, wind-swept planes. i will rest soundly knowing that i created honestly and unwaveringly a sound that i adore.

we've been recording shows for a little over a month now using a handheld digital recorder with a stereo drop from our mixer. pretty lo-fi, but the results so far are squeaky clean! keep an eye out as we'll be making these tracks available to purchase in the coming weeks through snocap, and probably iTunes.
much love and happy new year!
