Lovers Test

I'm driving to the city with the one I love sitting next to me

Three days would pass so quickly and one night would take a whole eternity

We walked along the avenues in the bitter cold burning cigarettes

In the city that never rests

The city, a lovers test

Alli, she loves everything and if you know her well you know she hates everything too

She's always late and so am I together we could be a whole day behind

We took some horrifying taxi rides we were lucky enough to make it out alive

We got a healthy dose of killer food I'm a sake drinking fool tonight

So bring on the night and show me love we would never sleep until the morning would come

It's another day and we're out again mostly we sit around and do absolutely nothing.....

But I like that

There was steam rising through the cracks so take my hand and don't look back

Her love is endless she's so free I'd like to bottle it up and sell it all to me

And on the last night

The harmony was broken

Drunken babble we unraveled

A taste of things to come were spoken

So we take some time apart for a little while to think objectively

I never knew how much I loved her till the day she burned a hole right through me

Love is pins and needles love is bitter sweet, this is hard to digest

Home from the city

Home to live the Lovers Test

African Echo

I'm not gonna waste my life sitting here

I'm not gonna waste my time thinking of you

And in a matter of time wounds will heal but scars remain

If you didn't know already they don't simply wash away

Chorus:

The seasons are changing

Our lives are slowly rearranging

Irony runs deep yet something's right it seems

It's amazing how things work out

I'm getting free I'm breaking out

Sticks and stones are breaking bones

But love thrives on broken hearts

She was oh so good at breaking mine

And letting her go has taken time

Chorus

And at the same time nights were getting long

I found that nature echoes quite a song

And as the rings of a tree mark year by year

The roots of the music are all I hear

Blue Silver

I'm running loose again

I'm flying down this lonely road

And I don't know what to do

When all is lost what is true?

I'm going back through old woods and dusty rooms

Going backwards, lost in details, losing time

And I'm looking for an exit off this road in my mind

That I know all too well.

Stale dreams stall my momentum

Wrapped around a gem that's hard to mention

I have a knack for repetition

I seem to attract only crazy women

I draw in danger and things just get stranger

Time will not change her

So farewell my love

As I step into the sun

And what you were will be with me in my dreams

But we're miles away in reality

The shadows fell like a cloak around my heart but drifted away

With the red glowing light that fell through my eyelids today

......as I open my eyes everything is blue silver

I am finally alone

That was a lot of time and energy

To now be on my own

There's nothing left to do

So I rest

The mandala has now been completed

The swipe is the test

The pages have turned the book has closed

The pages have turned the book has closed

Place in the dark

This place in the dark

This place in the dark

It's only me and you, so let's start with something true before we part

Tonight there's only you

Tonight there's only you

In the morning we'll be gone

But this moment will exist on its own

This place in the dark

This place in the dark

When summer ends you'll be gone

When summer ends you'll be gone

And though I know you'll go

I pretend it isn't so

This place in the dark

This place in the dark

Quiet fills the air

Silence everywhere

Sometimes dreamers find their way

Back to reality

When all Lights go out in this space

The darkness is so hot, that I think it might burn me away

But when we go it's hard to know if we… will ever meet again

This place in the dark

This place in the dark

It's only me and you, so let's start with something true before we part

Desert Sun

When you go to the desert

You gotta watch where you run

You gotta watch out for the nightcrawlers

Beware of the scorpion

When you go to the desert

You feel the heat of the sun

It will burn you to the ground

Better run, run, run

When you go the jungle

You gotta watch where you step

Keep a look out for the tigers

Cause they'll get you in the end

When you're deep in the Jungle

Keep your weapon at your side

When you're deep in the jungle

There's nowhere to hide

So Many Stars

So many stars but so little light

I've no full moon to guide me on this crescent night

In darkness all colors become black or white

As all decisions become wrong or right

One step from silence the evening stirs

Straining my senses I listen for words

You are so beautiful

I lie and say I don't envy

Cause my grief could only taint your universe

That so enthralls me

I want to lose myself in your natural ways

I want your emptiness to fill me

And I'll shine through your rays

There's nothing I can do

Cause no matter what I do

It won't make me you

And I could never really try

Cause no matter how I try

Only faith could get me by

So many stars but so little light

I've no full moon to guide me on this crescent night

And judgments like these stars

Give the illusion of knowing where you are

The Grasslands

I just drift through the night

Sitting alone on this hill, under the moonlight

Echoes of the past go their way, and I'm going mine

The sounds of life surround me as I stand on each side of the line

Engines fire below me from the other world

Street lights and road noise they live here as well I am told

But they are so far off from the place I am in

Living in two worlds at once can be kind of confusing.

And as I look in to the grasslands

I see the fields are closing in so quickly

And all these buildings and this money they suddenly mean nothing

When our land pays the cost and continues its suffering

Unfairly enough I just sit here and I'm still doing nothing

The world is changing now

We're pushing it all to the threshold and I don't know how

How we'll ever harmonize like everything else

We've make this world of competition on a planet

that was one within itself

I sit hear in the light

Thinking these thoughts gives me pause as to what I do tonight

I tend to wash these issues away with distractions

Like liquor and women and other attractions

So it scares me to think what one would do who doesn't think at all

Don't wash the beauty away

Open Doors

It took years to find the one

I found her and I let her go as I lost everyone

And finally some love was back

But I'm more lost now than I was when I didn't know her in the past

It's so much different when one cares about it

It consumes my thoughts I can't live with out it

It's funny how love works out people want it so bad and then they want to get out

And when I left the freedom turned to loneliness and doubt about my decision

Please forgive me

You had everything I could ever want

A friend a lover what have I done

When I returned the door was open but you weren't there

Emptiness was everywhere

I'll be waiting for the day you get back

Will it come bring me the person that I lack.

Black Hole

Falling endlessly down into this pit

I need you so bad my head is going to split

You enter the room and your eyes burn into mine

The world suddenly stops and I'm here until the end of time

You're my black hole baby your gravity's too much

Maybe I could escape after just one touch

This is my chosen hell I am woozy from your spell

Let me be voodoo woman let me be

Let me be

I said let me be

Voodoo woman

Voodoo woman

On My Way

I was leaving at mid day

And on my way

I found this note

I wondered what it said

As it sat there on my doorstep

So I opened it and it read

Like a farewell

It said you're "leaving

This pain behind"

"Along with the world

This is too much to stand"

Along with the world

With the world

The world

Has been more cruel than you planned

The second part of the note speaks of things in the past

And how the last two years were some of the happiest you've had

"But there's been a shadow growing steadily that's heavier than love can be,

that's deciding where my life will lead…to eternity"

It said you're "leaving

This pain behind"

"Along with the world

This is too much to stand"

Along with the world

With the world

The world

Has been more cruel than you planned

Flying down the highway

Will I make it in time?

Deciphering this burning love from confusion and lies

The wheels are turning my head is spinning

Your guess is as good as mine...

THE NIGHTCRAWLERS Technically, at five songs, this is an EP; but since it clocks in at around 30 minutes, I’m counting it as an album. The much-anticipated self-titled debut disc from State College’s Nightcrawlers introduced the world to this group’s multi-flavored mixture of sounds. The Nightcrawlers creatively wove elements of rock, jazz, funk, worldbeat, Latin, rockabilly and Americana into aural tapestries uniquely their own over the disc’s duration. Each tune offered a unique and tasty slant, from the lightly funky, worldbeat-tinged opener “African Echo” to the country-slanted “Lover’s Test,” the rockabilly-geared “Desert Sun,” the Caribbean-toned “Latin Groove” and the dark spacey blues of “Black Hole.” These players’ abilities to improvise and blend their instrumental talents are a constant highlight here; with the results being colorful, mesmerizing grooves that keep the listener riveted. An impressive debut. ~Jim Price, PA Musician Magazine - Top 10 Albums of 2005

THE NIGHTCRAWLERS – “African Echo” It’s no wonder this tune has become The Nightcrawlers' most popular number. "African Echo" offers the perfect introduction into the multi-flavored world of The Nightcrawlers, blending together tropical-flavored rhythms, Noah Figlin's jazz- and blues-informed guitarwork, an irresistable melody, and in the homestretch, Aeb Byrne's light and gentle flute serenade. Melody, musicality and musical styles merge into one of the most rewarding 7 minutes to emerge from the area music scene in 2005.  ~Jim Price, PA Musician Magazine - Top 10 Songs of 2005

Nightcrawlers take five while moving ahead

For the Centre Daily Times

Artist: The Nightcrawlers

CD: "The Nightcrawlers"

Label: independent

On its self-titled debut, The Nightcrawlers explore world music, classic rock and country western. Releasing a five-song EP, the local favorites have taken their eclectic live show and vibrant energy and captured it digitally.

Singer-guitarist-lyricist-producer Noah Figlin leads his band on a musical world tour. The album's opening track and best song, "African Echo," owes a musical nod to Paul Simon's "Graceland" and delivers catchy choruses amid swimming guitars.

"Lover's Test" bops along with a bouncy two-step and Dylan-esque lyrics, and "Desert Sun" explores Southwestern themes, sort of a country-fried Pink Floyd. "Latin Groove" allows Figlin's formidable guitar chops to shine through, and "Black Hole" gives the band a chance to try its hand at classic blues.

Produced almost entirely in Figlin's attic (you would never guess), the album is a retro experience, opting for musical intros and moody, almost new-age, instrumental breakdowns.

Unlike pop records of the modern day, The Nightcrawlers takes its time, burying pop sensibilities among guitar forays, pianos, flute solos, bongos, congas and tempo changes.

Although the album squirms and wiggles its way through so many styles and changes, the entire record carries with it an unyielding sense of fun and playfulness. Even when the subject matter gets heavy, the music is permeated with a nod and a wink, you can hear the pleasure in the musicians' playing, and Figlin's lyrics are delivered with a buoyant optimism and friendly grin.

The best local album of 2005, "The Nightcrawlers" is an excellent record. Figlin and his band pull off the different styles of music on the album with conviction and believability. As the band's popularity grows, it will be exciting to see what musical direction it will morph into next and how Figlin's songwriting will expand.
