"Their 2004 self-titled debut is a lost 'canyon rock' gem. If anything, the follow-up leans even heavier on the CSN&Y influences, and in a year all four titans played Glastonbury, who's to argue with their choice of heroes?" - Q (4 stars)
". . . lush harmonies and a blunt, countrified Canyon rock sound. " Uncut (4 stars)
"10 of 10 stars" - Foxy Digitalis
"The album is full of lush, solar-powered, mile-wide harmonies and strong choruses. You will surely adore this album from first listen if you're a fan of the Byrds, Gram Parsons or the Eagles. . . as good an example of recent West Coast Americana I can bring to mind." - Maverick (4 Stars)
"Maplewood make the most beautifully laid back country-rock with a hint of the new, not unlike Midlake at their most CSN-flavoured." - Shindig

a quick word: several maplewood and champale songs are featured in sidney lumet's "before the devil knows you're dead," which opened this past weekend at cineplex near you. call movie fone and keep your ears tuned as you watch philip seymour hoffman, marisa tomei, ethan hawke, and albert finney do their thing to an oddly familiar soundtrack.

The new America album, "Here and Now," is now officially out from Sony/Burgundy, produced by James Iha and Adam Schlesinger and featuring input in the way of guest appearances and covers from the likes of Nada Surf, Ryan Adams, My Morning Jacket, Ben Kweller, Stephen Bishop, and even Will Robinson from "Lost in Space." How can you beat that?
Oh, wait, check out track two: "Indian Summer," an amazing rendition of the first song from our first album, sung by America's Dewey Bunnell with some added lyrical input from him, too. (No alligator lizards in the air, but some pretty trippy fireflies!) As everybody knows, we were all big-time America heads before it was cool, and we couldn't be more stoked to have contributed in our small way to this record. (Added bonus: Ira played drums and Mark played guitar.) Grab a copy from iTunes or your local record shop and be sure to stop off at www.venturahighway.com and say hello to Dewey and Gerry Beckley.
Also, check out www.maplewoodfeelsgood.com for more updates and, whenever we get around to posting it, a recent Wall Street Journal article about "Indian Summer" and America. ("As I was playing this somewhat 'Ventura Highway'-esque lick, the world turned inside out a little bit."—Gerry on recording "Indian Summer.")
Meanwhile, we've got some tunes in upcoming movies, we're making progress (really) on the new record, and we're aiming for some live shows in March. See you then.
Ride high, be free, etc.
Mark, Steve, Craig, Ira

Weve been spending the summer messing around in the studio, getting mellow out in the country, having babies, and other fun stuff. But heres the latest:
The September Spin features Maplewood in a cover story about an apparent resurgence of soft rock. Check out our tiny visages and Marks quotes on America (the band) and bongs.
Speaking of America, a song of ours -- Indian Summer -- has been covered by America on their much-anticipated comeback record, produced by James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins) and Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne). It was a blast to be in the studio with these living legends, and to hear Dewey Bunnell the guy who sang Horse with No Name -- lay down the vocals on this familiar Maplewood jam. The band also recorded tunes by Ryan Adams, My Morning Jacket, and Nada Surfpretty good company. The record is due out from Sony in October.
Were returning to Germany next week to play the amazing Reeperbahn Festival www.reeperbahnfestival.com in our home away from home, Hamburg. The festival features the likes of The Rapture, Radio 4, and Nouvelle Vague, and the Maplewood show is scheduled for Friday, September 22, at 11:30 at the club Knust. Tell all your German cousins and ex-spouses!
