Stoke Sounds - 23/08/09

Review by Liam Kelly

...Soon after, it was Hudson who arrived on stage for their farewell gig. They were greeted to rapturous applause and cheers. After thanking the large crowd for their presence they got straight into proceedings with their first song ‘Keep running.’ This caused mayhem in the crowd and the band grew in confidence because of this. Next track ‘On the words of others’ showed the quality guitar riffs Damo and Jack are capable of. What they lack in age they certainly make up for in stage presence and put on an unforgettable visual performance. This was backed by the powerful bass playing of front man Rick and the frantic drumming of Tim.

Hudsons last ever show was fuelled with energy and enthusiasm and they created a performance that will never be forgotten. ‘Reverie’ illustrated the passion of lead singer and bassist Rick and he belted out spot-on vocals throughout. As the set went on the crowd became wilder, and Hudson just found more energy. This was reflected in Damos onslaught of guitar riffs. The final song of the night, and the last ever song Hudson will perform live was ‘212, We’ll never know.’ This song lead to unforgettable scenes, every member of this large audience going wild and even lead to a stage invasion by a section of Hudson – lovers. As the song came to an end there was mixed emotions all around. Hugging, crying, clapping, cheering, no matter what any member of the crowd did at that moment they were all there too give Hudson the send off they deserved. An unforgettable night in which the band were superb. Hudson will be deeply missed by local music lovers and should be remembered for their passion and dedication. I feel privileged to have been able to witness the last ever Hudson show, and in my opinion, they will go down as one of the greatest bands to grace the Stoke music scene.

Current mood:Honoured

There have been a lot of rumours flying around recently regarding the future of Hudson. It’s gotten to the point where I feel it’s now necessary to put validity to this and make it official before it gets out of hand.

Hudson are breaking up

It may or may not come as a surprise to you but I can assure everybody that this is on completely good terms.
There’s an endless list of reasons as to why we’ve come to this decision and believe me it wasn’t easy.

Hudson have been together for 6 years and speaking personally I can honestly say that we achieved everything I could have ever wanted. We’ve left our own little mark on the music scene and regardless of what success we did or didn’t have we’ll forever rest safe in the knowledge that we always did what we wanted to do. We ignored trends, we ignored fashion, we made music our own way. Above all we had an amazing time!

But sometimes things change. Priorities change, opinions change and values change.
Jack and Damo will be moving full speed ahead with their band Rumour Has It. Please show them your full support, these boys are onto something really special and considering that they still have youth on their side they truly are only just getting started. RHI are currently recording a new EP and will be touring extensively from now on.

Myself and Tim will be throwing ourselves into our new recording studio and as it happens are currently recording the Rumour Has It EP. The studio is called Eye Studios, find us here www.myspace.com/eyestudiosuk
We’re also working on a very exciting new band but that can be saved for another day.

The plan was to play all our remaining gigs and then do one last show at the Sugarmill. Unfortunately, I’ve lost my voice and was advised not to sing for a little while. An omen perhaps?
We still have every intention of doing one last show at the Sugarmill, the date for this will be announced shortly. Please come down and make it a night we can all remember for a long time.
We’ll also be recording any new songs we have and uploading them to the myspace page thus neatly wrapping up the era of Hudson.

A special mention should go out to all past members; Rich, Dan & Mike. We’d have never made it to this point with out you.

I don’t want to drag this out for too long, I’m very tired as I write this and the last thing I’d want to do is start rambling…maybe I already have. We’d love it if you’d come and leave us a comment or two, We’ll still be checking the page regularly (for the near future at least).

To Tim, Damo & Jack…I love you guys, it’s been an absolute blast.

Every step of the way, I poured my heart and soul into Hudson. To those of you who were benevolent enough to call yourself a fan, I’m eternally grateful.

Rick – Hudson

We would just like to thank everyone who was involved with the tour this month. Whether you came to see us, shared the stage with us, gave us a place to crash or ran away from us whilst we HXC danced in the streets...Cheers for making it such an incredible time!

We're going to be touring extensively for the rest of the year so please keep your eyes out for shows you can come to.

Also, loads of tour footage will be emerging within the next few weeks.

Love you all.

Current mood:  focused

So, 'How To Feel Alive' is nearing it's release. We're really excited about the year ahead. The CD will be featured & reviewed in most major magazines so fingers crossed it will be well received! As of next week the CD along with additional merch (T-shirts etc) will be available directly from this Myspace page prior to official distribution.

We're embarking upon the first of many tours to promote the CD on the 10th Feb, starting at the Shed in Leicester. If you can make it to any of the show's we would be more than delighted to be your entertainment for the evening.

Finally, we will be starting to plan a music video for '212 (We'll Never Know)' when we get back home. The ideas we've already had are great so we'll see how that one pans out. Watch your back Youtube!

Please keep dropping in for a chat! We love hearing from every single one of you.

Thank you so much for the level of support you've shown so far. We're so lucky to have you!
Hugs and kisses a' plenty

Current mood:  optimistic
As we've been saying for a little while now we have a load of big news.
So, here it is in a very efficient list form.

1. We're currently recording a brand new EP which will be out in December.
The EP is totally self produced and is sounding better than anything we've ever done before! It will be an official release so expect to see it in all good record shops...and some shit ones too!

2. We will be holding a CD launch party at the Sugarmill during the christmas period. The date is yet to be announced but it will be an absolutely massive gig for us. We will be pulling out ALL the stops! Just wait and see :)
We'll have lots of new merch available on the night including spanking new t-shirts, stickers, badges, novelty mouse mats, thongs with our faces on, limited edition Hudson penknifes and pairs of mis-matched gloves to commemorate the death of Jeremy Beadle. (or maybe just the first 3)
The whole gig will be filmed for a DVD which will be released next year.

3. Hudson have just been confirmed as the support for Zebrahead when they come to the Sugarmill on the 12th! That's only 6 days away so please don't hesitate to get in touch for tickets. We would love to see each and every one of you there. It will be a great gig.

4. We have two new guitarists! Some of you will probably be wondering what the hell is going on with our line-up. If you saw us the last time we played you will know that we now have Damo on guitar. However, since then ourselves and Mike have had to part company due to his insane schedule with Last Man Down. His replacement...meet Jack .
In the short time he's been with us he has been able to put us all to shame with his abilities!
Be sure to show him a nice warm welcome and come and cheer him on at the next show.

5. We are playing at Staffs Uni legends bar on Saturday.
Other bands playing are Screwloose, In City Light and our good mates Dead Like Heroes are headlining because they will be releasing a new CD on the night! Check them out here.

Matt Lee from BBC Radio Stoke's Subculture show will be DJ'ing all night too! Not one to be missed.

6.
We're also playing with our other good buds Mike TV and Random hand at the Rigger on the 24th! Mike TV have been Ricks favourite band for a good while now, you MUST check them out! Mike TV

7. Rick will be on the aformentioned Radio Stoke Subculture show on thursday with Andy from Dead Like Heroes. Be sure to tune in between 7-9 pm to hear some riveting musical chit-chat.

8. After the release of the EP we will be embarking upon several tours to promote the CD. Keep an eye out for a show near you!

9. We're currently having our myspace page re-designed to tie in with the ep release as well as new photos & banners.

10. Finally, a couple of songs from the ep will be added to our player very soon! Watch out for those.

That's just about it!

If you've got any questions get in touch, in fact, just get in touch. We've missed you!

Love and Kisses,
Rick, Tim, Damo & Jack

So you may have heard already but we thought it best to post it here first, we have a new Guitarist!

Our beloved Dan is no longer in the band due to long distance. We already miss him but it was a decision we all made for the best.

His replacement...Damo!
You probably know him from Fall 42, if not you'll know him because he's had sex with you. He's already proving to be perfect for the role so we're all excited to see his progress.
His first gig will be at the Sugarmill on the 21st July supporting Furthest Drive Home & Kill the Arcade.

The only thing left to say is thank you to Dan for all your hard work and devotion in the past couple of years. We'd be absolutely nowhere without you and we're forever grateful. We love you dude.

Thanks for reading,
Hudson

p.s.
I just found this video! This is one of the many occasions Damo invaded our live show...technically he has already been on stage with us.
