After all these years of using the name Slow Car Crash, I thought it about time I officially explain where it came from.
When I was about 18 years old I decided to go to LA to pursue my dream of one day becoming a "rock star". I went to halfway homes like Covenant House and at last got a small, studio apartment with three other guys. We were all just kids and actually shared a large mattress between the four of us. This only lasted a short while and eventually I became homeless.
Around this time, I became good friends with a guy named John Brittain.
John opened his doors to me, giving me a place to crash and shower. His family began inviting me to their home during holidays, etc. They treated me as one of their own and never made me feel unwelcome or uncomfortable. In fact, they went out of their way to make sure I felt at home. Their generosity and hospitality was something that to this day I appreciate and have learned from.
Several years later, I moved to Chico, California, but stayed in close touch with John. Shortly thereafter, his father, Ray, was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I would call John often to check on him and to try and lend an ear to a friend whose family was going through a terrible crisis.
Somewhere around this time, John described the situation as a slow car crash, in that you know disaster is imminent but you have time to think and dwell upon the inevitable. In deference to John and his lovely family, I decided to name my writing vehicle Slow Car Crash.
As time has passed, the name has time and again been relevant in my life. From failing relationships to addiction to life itself, many things seem to be like a slow car crash.
I thought it time to shed a bit of light on this subject because of few of my friends are currently fighting this terrible disease. We are currently in the works of having some of the profits from our CD's and merchandise go to charity, research, etc. I'm sure many of you have had an experience in your lives with the disaster that is cancer and it's time we find a cure. I figure to use my gifts and resources to try and benefit others and not just myself.
With that said, I'm sure the name can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. I just wanted to share my version of its origin.

Omarr Escoffie' And Slow Car Crash: Intermission

New Album Captures Different Sides Of Singer/Songwriter

Slow Car Crash proudly presents "Intermission," the latest release from singer/songwriter Omarr Escoffie.  "Intermission" takes a step forward from his last effort "The Trip We Planned," moving further toward the 70's Soul, Rock, Jazz and Latin elements that have made the band a must-see on stages everywhere.

Escoffie's latest offering of songs has solidified his venerable presence as a songwriter and vocalist.  This is the 5th release, and is his best and most focused to date.

This 7-song EP features an all star lineup of musicians, including long time collaborator, drummer, backing vocalist and co-producer Nick Amoroso (Marching Band, Shurman);  drummer Nate Morton (American Idol, Madonna);  keyboardist Stephen LeBlanc (A Fine Frenzy, Julianne Hough);  and ace session bassists Brian Kukan & Brian Duke Song.  Percussionist Chris Asberry provides rhythmic textures that accentuate the Latin vibe.  Meanwhile, guitarist Aaron Tap (Matt Nathanson) lends his creative stylings and soundsmith Phogmasheen provides atmospheric textures.  In addition, guest vocalist Amy Shepherd appears on "The Only Cure."

"Intermission" also features "6AM," the last song recorded with original keyboardist Danallan Atkins before his passing in 2006.

The EP is split between 4 full band songs, recorded by Dave Newton (The Little Ones, The Happy Hollows) and 3 live, solo acoustic songs performed by Escoffie' and recorded by fellow songwriters Steve Carson and Jameson of the Steve Carson Band.

All songs were mixed by Jason Schweitzer (Xzibit, Dr. Dre, Pussycat Dolls) and mastered by Evren Goknar (Stevie Wonder, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mariah Carey).

2009 will be spent touring and performing throughout the US. A 12-song collection of demos, out takes and live performances is also scheduled to be released sometime this year.
