MAXIMUM ROCK 'N ROLL

Disaster Strikes – “The Interrogation Sessions” EP
”. . .I was hooked from the first song.  Awesome, catchy hardcore with a mixture of heavy and melodic parts, this record reminds me a lot of recent PROPAGANDHI, which in my book is a huge compliment – it just doesn’t get better than Ptemptkin City Limits.  Lyrics deal with corporate power, blind patriotism, and consumerism, all from a left perspective.  One of the best releases on Alternative Tentacles in a while.”  (VX) (Alternative Tentacles)

Radical Film Night - A Grin Without A Cat
(Wed Feb 25, 7pm)

A GRIN WITHOUT A CAT is Chris Marker's epic film-essay on the worldwide
political wars of the 60's and 70's: Vietnam, Bolivia, May '68, Prague, Chile,
and the fate of the New Left.

Released in France in 1978, restored and "re-actualized" by Marker fifteen
years later (after the fall of the Soviet Union), we are proud to release the
film now for the first time in the United States.

Described by Marker as "scenes of the Third World War," the film (the original
French title is virtually untranslatable) is divided into two parts, each
weaving together two strands.

Mexico Solidarity Network Speaking Tour With Edith Lopez Ovalle
(Sat Feb 28, 2pm)

Mexico Solidarity Network Spring Tour with Edith Lopez Ovalle:
Human Rights and the Other Campaign: Political organizing and culture.

Edith is a 25-year-old artist and a member of Hijos por la Identidad y la
Justicia contra el Olvido y el Silencio (HIJOS) where she Works with the
Committee on Art and Politics. HIJOS is a member of the Otra Camp?nd works
around questions of human rights, particularly the death and disappearance of
social actors. The parents of most of the members of HIJOS were political
prisoners, and many were killed or disappeared in the 60s, 70s and 80s. HIJOS
is a multi-national organization founded in Argentina and with chapters in
Guatemala, El Salvador, Colombia, Chile and Mexico. HIJOS works at the
cultural level with innovative public events like "escraches" that draw
attention to human rights violators. In "escraches," protestors hold vigils or
demonstrations in front of the homes or offices of human rights violators,
calling public attention to their illegal acts in front of neighbors and fellow
workers. HIJOS also renames streets, replacing the names of known human rights
violators with dissident heroes. For more information on HIJOS, see

Radical Film Night - Don't Need You: The Herstory Of Riot Grrrl
(Wed Mar 4, 7pm)

"don't need you" is a documentary film that tells the story of the origins of
Riot Grrrl in the American independent music scene of the 1990s, and how this
feminist movement evolved into a revolutionary underground network of education
and self-awareness through music, writing, activism, and women-friendly
community. The film gives audiences a chance to meet key figures in the
development of Riot Grrrl and see for themselves how these women have changed
the history of music and feminism forever. The film features one-on-one
interviews interspersed with rare, archival materials, including original Riot
Grrrl fanzines, flyers, and photographs, as well as seldom seen footage from
pioneering Riot Grrrl bands like Bikini Kill, Heavens to Betsy, and Bratmobile.

Radical Film Night - This Palestinian Life
(Wed Mar 18, 7pm)

Film & Discussion with filmmaker

"This Palestinian Life" shares stories of nonviolent struggle in Palestinian
rural communities in the face of the Israeli occupation. Filmmaker Philip Rizk
meets with villagers in the Gaza Strip, Jordan Valley, and the South Hebron
Hills who have endured home demolitions, imprisonment, settler attacks, and
other forms of oppression that threaten their very way of life.

Some Palestinians return violence with violence. Most Palestinians don't.
Nonviolent struggle often takes the shape of demonstrations, boycotts, and
civil disobedience to counter illegal methods of expansion. For Palestinians,
this struggle more often resembles sumoud (steadfastness) and perseverance, as
they find creative and bold ways of remaining on their land and in their
villages despite the occupation.

This film exposes the rarely told story of community-based resistance against
the unjust policies of an occupying state.

Becoming The Media: A Critical History Of Clamor
(Mon Mar 30, 7pm)

Clamor Magazine was a movement publication that existed between 2000 and 2006,
covering radical politics, culture, and activism. Clamor published 38 issues
and featured over 1,000 different writers and artists. The mission statement
was:
Clamor is a quarterly print magazine and online community of radical thought,
art, and action. An iconoclast among its peers, Clamor is an unabashed
celebration of self-determination, creativity, and shit-stirring. Clamor
publishes content of, by, for, and with marginalized communities. From the
kitchen table to shop floor, the barrio to the playground, the barbershop to
the student center, it's old school meets new school in a battle for a better
tomorrow. Clamor is a do-it-yourself guide to everyday revolution.

This analysis is presented as a case study on how movement projects and
organizations deal with vital but rarely discussed issues such as management,
sustainability, ownership, structure, finance, decision making, power,
diversity, and vision.

Reviews:
"An excellent piece. I learned a great deal from reading it. I think it's a
great contribution that lots of folks will find very useful in future projects,
and not just media projects." -- Max Elbaum, author, Revolution in the Air

"An extremely valuable resource, and very well done." -- Jordan Flaherty, Left
Turn Magazine

About the Author:

Jen Angel has been a writer and media activist for over 15 years. Jen's
publishing history includes Clamor, publishing the Zine Yearbook, and editing
MaximumRockNRoll. She is a founding board member of Allied Media Projects, a
non-profit independent media advocacy organization and a contributing editor to
Yes! Magazine. Since leaving Clamor, she has worked as a producer for KPFA
Radio, and a publicist and tour manager through the cooperative booking agency,
Aid & Abet.

She blogs on media and activism at http://jenangel.wordpress.com/

ABOUT LPC
**************************************************

+++ Where are we?

Lucy Parsons Center
549 Columbus Avenue
Boston's South End
Telephone: (617) 267-6272
Email: lucyparsons@tao.ca
web: http://lucyparsons.org/

+++ What are we?

The Lucy Parsons Center, Boston's collectively run
radical bookstore features an extensive selection
of radical books and magazines, internet access,
space for talks and meetings, and free movies
Wednesday nights. Located at 549 Columbus Avenue
in the South End the store is just down from Mass
Ave and easily reached from the Mass Ave and
Symphony T stations and the #1 bus. Regular store
hours 12-9pm weekdays and 1-7 on weekends.

+++ Volunteer

Volunteering at LPC isn't just about donating your
labor. All of the Lucy Parsons Center volunteers
contribute to all aspects of running the store and
can take part in all decisions in how it's run.
If you know anything about grant writing, web
design, or any other skills you think would be
useful, or if you just want to be part of this
great radical project, please email us at
volunteer@lucyparsons.org

+++ Use our space for radical stuff

One of the most important apects of the Lucy
Parsons Center is providing a community meeting
place for radical activities. If you want to host
an event, please send an email to us at
events@lucyparsons.org. Make sure to give enough
notice so that we can approve the event at our
bimonthly meetings.

If you have a group that needs a space to have
regular meetings, just come to the bookstore and
fill out a space request form. Again, make sure to
allow time for approval by the collective.

+++ Donate MONEY!

Although we are proud to demonstrate that an
all volunteer collective can survive in capitalist
United States, we can certainly use your help.
The majority of our income comes from book
sales and most of that goes straight to pay our
landlord and bills. Without support from our
community, we could not continue to function.

A regular monthly or annual donation makes a
real difference to us and enables us to improve
the center and its offerings.

Please consider becoming a monthly supporter with
a regular monthly donation of whatever you are able.
Even $5 a month makes a big difference. And don't
forget we have 501(c)3 status, so all donations to the
LPC are tax deductible.

You can donate online through Network For Good:
https://www.networkforgood.org/donation/ExpressDonation.aspx?ORGID2=043159201

Whatever you can give helps us to keep fighting even
donating the change of your purchase can make a
difference.
