five spencer street

where the elite meet

i'll catch you at the dead end

under that yellow light

that buzzes

like we do.

a rock thing is emerging.  thunderous, soaring, cinematic...hopefully vital, with legs.  we will be sending you goliath very soon.  until then, we continue to find new noises to share.  that's what we do.

and somebody said something about a book of poetry.  dunno.  we'll see.

above all, we hope you're awake out there.  onward and upward...

... on a rainy June afternoon
i saw that everything was six minutes late
that a slip and fall was no fall at all
and with that ripe confidence
that weightless knowledge
that fearless gary busey quality
i shook hands with myself
silent and resolute

then i put my ear to the bell
and stepped into the ice cave...

"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side."

when you live upstairs from a bar you pray for violence at night

drama, some scene worth shouting at from above

like a director or a game show host

and you drink out loud during the day

surfing the Sonic in an empty pool

with 10,000 hipsters, few of them smoking

all pretty girls in funky clothes

and the sun makes it's way thru the cracks in the bricks

and you invoke the names of all the great boozers who boozed ahead of you...

bukowski & burroughs, thomas & yeats, the ramones & richard manuel

and often you find yourself, quite early on

wobbled in sunshine

and missing your keys

which is more than half of just as well

even better and beyond

it just is what it is...

and in doing so, the splitting and grilling of lobsters i aim to leave as much white on the page as i can.  to be sparse and dark as i steer all readers toward the exit signs.  a yellow life vest, a stainless steel belt buckle, 2 wings, one engine, 3 tic tacs, 6 magazines and a valium.  i heard about this aquarium where there's concern that the great white shark is eating the other fish.   i ask myself constantly, in a repetitive, in a repetitive frame of motion is anyone being eaten by a shark right now?  i am anti-zoo but i like a good steak as much as the next guy.   look at our art because in that splatter, that brilliant and exciting buckshot, the reverend places a molecule of his own right between two molecules of yours.  so slide over, there's room on the bus for all of us.
