So, here's my quarterly blog post. I have been very busy this last year. Indyground has been a major factor in hip hop in mid Missouri, like I knew it would, but the actual impact for me, was amazing. I got to record and release my debut record, and it's done better than my expectations by far. I also got to go on Steddy's 'Style Like Mind' tour, with him and Mahf. Which was an experience I will never forget. A vital experience for the live show, which by the end of the tour, had improved tenfold. That leads to me now, having the most confidence ever musically, going into a concept project EP!!! To explain, I am making the "Faces" talks, a reality. At first, I wanted to get this thing rushed and out by mid Jan, but thank god Steddy talked some sense into me, and were gonna wait until mid April. It will be all story songs. Named after the fictional characters the songs are about. The songs, 'She' and 'Suicide' were many peoples favorites on the first record, so those people will be happy to know, more of that is coming. It will be between 5 and 7 songs. A free download at first too!!!! The December 4th reunion show is going to be a big one too!! An amazing lineup of hip hop, and it's a free show!!! Get the shit out of here! Yeah, many things are brewing for this next year, I do plan on releasing another full length album before the end of 2010, so don't think Faces is all your getting next year. I am learning it takes a lot of time to do it all right. One thing is for sure, I am down to get it right. Thanks for supporting local hip hop. Peace to you.

July 13th, 2009. This was a big day for me today. I received my first record in the mail. I also sold one. This may not seem like a big deal to anyone out there. But to me, this was huge. I have given away SOOO many burnt cd's, this was just gratifying to me. I feel like jumping up and down man! I also believe that a new addiction was just formed. I really like making music and selling it. The whole idea of getting paid, to do something you love. I mean, how many people live their whole lives, and never experience that? It may be small time right now, but the bug has bitten me, and it's on. I have a release party scheduled for this Friday(the 17th) in St. Louis. At Llywelyn's Pub, in the central west end. I also have a Columbia, MO release party on the 14th of August, at the Blue Fugue. These are going to be ridiculous shows. If you give a damn about intelligent local hip hop, please, you owe it to yourself top show up and rock with us. Like it or not, I'm now on the scene....... and I'm hungry.

When we woke up today, it was to sad news about my good friend Jules. I have worked with Jules for many years DJing around the lake. He has been an amazing person to so many people, and..... no, he has been a saint. I wouldn't dare throw that word around if it weren't true. He worked more hours than any human being should, and managed to keep a good spirit most all of the time. That is worth an award in my opinion. His awesome girl Renee, has baby-sat for us, and all of our friends for many years. Jules stopped breathing last night, and after battling all day at Lake regional hospital, they aren't very hopeful he will make it. I am a mess writing this now, and my heart and prayers go out to his entire family and friend-base. It is like taking the shepard out of the valley of lost souls. I know it all is part of a bigger scheme, but it doesn't seem right. Too young. I'll miss you Biggen.

Well, this one year has flown by. Myspace has been a major tool in kick starting my music. Astonishing really. I've met so many awesome people through this contraption, and in turn, made a lot of bad ass music because of that. I am very close to a completed first album. I am on board with an up and coming Indie label known as IndyGround Ent. I'm enjoying making noise with them too. For fuck's sake, I have 41,500 plays after 365 days on here!!!!!!! That is a little over 113 plays a day! Incredible. Thank you to anyone reading this, that's bumped my playlist. I appreciate it. 31,000 profile views, wow. Thank you. The next year will probably not be as amazing, cause I will be on the road a lot more, and myspace less. I have spent many hours on here posting comments, and marketing myself to the internet hip hop community. But the groundwork is set, and progress in inevitable. I am not bragging with the numbers, I'm kind of blown away by them actually. To anyone supporting the sound, or the many people behind the scenes, thank you. I am looking forward to writing this on my 2 year mark. Peace to local music everywhere! Thank you.

So, here I am blogging again. That's weird to write or say for me, I don't know. MY RECORD!!! It's coming along very nicely. I am finishing up the last 4 or 5 tracks for it currently. I have 12 tracks for sure going on right now, and 4 others in debate. I have to re-record every track before mastering. That's not an issue, in fact It will help the sound. I am way better at my delivery on everything now, than a year ago when couple of them were recorded. I am going to use Centro-Cellar Studios to master. They're based out of Columbia, and I guess I will let the cat out of the bag now on this. I'm pretty sure my family and I, are going to move to Columbia this next summer. Which means, Columbia and mid MO are going to see a lot more of Dallas. I will officially be entering the arena of touring acts this next year when that album is finished. My name is Dallas, and my record will be entitled, "Yeah, that's my real name" In all of my professions, I've been asked, is Dallas your real name? And people always give me this look like, come one, you can tell me, I won't say anything if it isn't. I'm gonna start telling people no it isn't, my real name is Richard Anus. Yeah, the old Dick Anus gag. ha.
So anywho...... I plan on getting around this great country of ours, and pushing the holy shit out of this record. Part of the reason on that, is another release at the end of summer. I am working on a concept album right now too. I go into detail on that record in previous blogs. But right now is crunch time for me and Yeah, that's my real name. Steddy will be coming down in the next month to put the finishing touches on a track called Anti-hype. We will also work on a flow of the album, picking song orders, and shit like that. I am also putting a completely different stage show together for the 'Green Party' in Kansas City on 4-17-09. That show will be an absolute motherfucker of a good time. (I been working on my hand drums yalls) If you haven't caught a fresh underground hip hop show in a while, peep that shit! It will have David Hasslehoff on Acid, Ghostly Japan, Steddy P, and myself on the bill. Good times. It will also mark my one year anniversary of hooking up with the Indyground crew. I met Steddy at the Green party in Columbia last year.
So as of right now, I have a gang of people with their hands in on this record. My boy Llama, Samwichez, Helias, Triphazzard, (crossing fingers on a Ben Bounce joint) DJ Mahf, DJ Innovation, Steddy P, Rhyme U, J Bomb, EMFB, and for some reason, I know I'm forgetting like 3 people. If you are in on this shit, and I didn't mention you, sorry. I'm ripped right now, I'll get my shit straight before I do the credits on the album! Thanks for giving two shits peoples. Peace.

Wow. This one word just doesn't cut it. The story is different for others involved, but this is my perspective. I went to the Bluebird Music and Arts festival on 11-15-08. I got there the night before just after Kanser, Approach, and the Earthworms got off stage. It was fucking banana's in that place from what people told me. I was at home printing demo cd's for the weekend, that actually were fucked up, and I didn't notice until I passed a few out. Apparently I put an instrumental on 4 instead of the recorded track. I was in such a hurry to get up to that show, I didn't even screen the disc's. Whoops, you live and learn, I guess. I'll never fuck that up again. Anyway, we roll into the hotel, and this is where the real WOW started for me. Afterparties all over the world bowed in shame compared to this one. For 3 or 4 hours, everytime we heard a knock at the door, we were like, 'oh, there's the cops, it's about damn time, geezz.' But it was always more people coming. Crazy.
We get up at the ass crack of dawn the next morning on the 15th, to have the official Indyground meeting. I cannot touch on anything mentioned, but I will say that Indyground is doing things. I mean seriously doing thangs. I am real fucking stoked to be in on the ground level of this, and get to help build. By the time we got done with the meeting, it was food and soundcheck time. We did take a quick trip over KOPN for interviews, and that was also awesome. Thanks CKell. Tyree made me do a track he is down with, Keep Controlling. He told me I had to do it live. I said right on, and tore it up. I even Blanked out my own cuss words. I was putting in iisshhh instead of shit. Ha. Now lets get back to the Indyground stage. The turnout for the whole first half was not what we were expecting, but it did start to fill up. So, this was my first time hearing many of the artists on the label also. That was cool, I got to get cd's from everyone, and see them get down. I have seen a lot of major acts come through, and I can say without a doubt, we are gonna have an impact soon. There is a lot of talent on this roster of mc's, dj's, and producer's. It gives me freaking goosebumps.
My performance felt good, I had a lot of positive feedback, and that is always a good sign. Alpaca Radio spun beats and cuts for me and I had my homie Dead Llama there too. I had to introduce him to all the people on the label. A very good day for local hip hop in mid Mo.
Now the Abstract Rude, Blueprint, and Atmosphere show. They had done like 48 shows or some shit before this one, so I expected them to be drained and have a shitty show. That's not a knock, it's fucking rough doing shit like they do, I just thought that was a possibility. But NOT the case. Abstract Rude was mind blowing for real. Beats that made me get up, lyrics were on fire. I could keep going for days oin these cats. They're in my top friends, check em. After Rare Groove tore shit up for almost 30 minutes, Blueprint walks out real chill, just talking, and he just started flowing and a beat just appeared magically under him, for one of the smoothest drop in's ever on track. He did the best show I've ever seen him do. I've got to see about five print shows too. So Atmosphere came out and did an amazing set. The best version of Trying to find a balance ever. The encore was phenomenal. Slug was getting a lot of love from the Columbia hip hop scene there that night, and he was eating it up. The freestyle session at the end with print and abstract was BAD ASS. Slug straight up mentioned Steddy P in one of the last lines of his freestyle. He got a lot of respect from them at Scribble this year, and that has just helped the label as well. But overall, this was the best Rhymesayers show I've evr witnessed. I have to say that after seeing over 20 shows, that's saying something too.
Now the afterset party. This was supposed to be dj'ed by my homie dj Mahf. When we went to set up the afterset, we went to the spot, which was a warehouse with missing walls and one extension chord. What the fuck right? Yeah, that's what we thought. But Slug and everyone wanted to see us get down at the afterset, they thought we were getting down then and not earlier in day. So we tried to scramble shit together at the last moment, but it came down too not having enough juice in that place to run a pa system. Damn. Cause it was a who's who in the rhymesayers roster at that party. I didn't get any pics cause I'm not trying to look like a tourist, but it was pretty fucking cool to be beat-boxing for Blueprint, while he's doing a very drunk freestyle at 3:30 in the morning, and hanging his arm around my neck to keep his balance. Something I didn't see happening when I woke up that morning, you know? Awesome. I had such an amazing time kicking it with all my people at Indyground. We made networking connections that are soooo valuable, and had a big success in the success of Bluebird, so that made it way cool. Thank you to all that made it, and were involved. I can't wait until next year.

So here I am, not even 11 months into my myspace experience, and I'm well over 20,000 profile views and 33,000 plays. Get the fuck out of town, right? I have to give MAJOR props to the whole INDYGROUND record label for getting me out of my house, and making music for the masses. I have been bedroom recording for sooo many years, it was either this, or quit it. The idea of not making music, turns my stomach, like listening to comercial rap music. My girl has been influential and vital, to the process of getting the studio and myself, going as well. I will always appreciate her support, more than she knows. And Indyground is so about ready to blow on the underground scene America. You guys don't even know. I am so fucking stoked to be messing with some like-minded, motivated, cats like these. I am wanting to thank the entire town of Columbia, MO, KC, MO, and Lake Ozark, MO. Because there are a lot of people behind what I'm doing in those cities. Ya'll make me proud to rep it wherever it takes me. You know? I am getting closer and closer to a finished album. It will be self-titled, "Dallas .....yeah, that's my real name". It will be my first real release ever. That may be odd for someone with a 65 song library to say, but it's true. I have been handing out burnt cd's for almost a decade now. Damn, I'm glad to be moving on from that too though. I'm also working on a follow up to that record, it will be called, "Faces". I have this set as a concept record. All songs will be first names of people, and tell stories about those people. Each song a snippet of their lives. Some happy, some sad, some completely irrelevant. Yes, this is what I consider one of my strong points. I can telll a story in a song like a real motherfucker, from what people tell me, so I'm gonna go with it. A full album of story raps. I haven't heard about anyone doing it before, if someone has, holla at me with who, and when, etc. Anyway, these live shows are amazing to do. People are starting to know words to my songs. These people don't have a cd or anything, that lets me know where these damn plays on my page are coming from. Thank you people, I appreciate the love. I have a new track up with a beat from Helias, and another for the Faces record. So be ready for that. I have another track for the Faces disc from Samwichez as well, named Leonard. You can peep it on his page right now. And let me just say, if everyone in the music business was as cool as my man Samwichez, the music business would kick way more ass. Thanks for your work too, homie! I have a track in progress with my homie Triphazzard also. This is called, "Off the deep end". And it's fucking crazy. Also, '22 Stout', the new track on my page, is my homie EMFB. We go way back, and he is easy to record with. We are also working on a collabo EP, called 'Shake the Baby'. It will melt you face when we finish it. Be careful. And finally my homie Dead Llama, is always on the grind. He has a techno-ish album he just finished, while making a shit-ton of beats for my record, and this continues to this day. Thanks again to anyone who actually read all this. Peace, from the Slowzarks.

Hello all! First, thank you to everyone who has supported the shows this last week. Three shows in six days, and they all rocked. Even if you didn't make it out, a message or a comment means a lot to me. So, thank you again. If you were planning on seeing me at the Blue Fugue on the 12th of November, sorry, we have moved that date back to the 17th of December. That show is still on the 12th, just no DallasMusic. It's cool, there will be a lot more dates in Columbia. I have Bluebird on the 15th of Nov. for sure, so be there. The Field House on Broadway. BIG things are happening at Indyground right now people. too big to even mention. But the moves will only help bring bad-ass hip hop to Missouri, and surrounding area's. I am really digging live shows right now. I have done a bunch of house parties for years, but taking that step up is so far, real cool. I basically just want everyone to know that I am putting my soul into this record I'm making, and it will be solid. I am sure of that. Thank you very much for reading this, and stay tuned. I am just getting started. Peace, from the middle of Missouri.

My name is Dallas. Yeah, thats my real name. Mom was a cowboys fan from way back. I grew up in Peoria IL, and came to Lake of the Ozarks MO in 91'. Around the turn of the century I got out on my own and began living in Columbia MO. I started writing and recording hip hop in early 2001. The first songs were mainly just a bunch of party anthems that got played by our close friends, and that was it. I've been taking it a lot more serious in the last three years. I have started a family with the woman of my dreams and her two awesome boys. This has slowed down the process (of making music) for me a little, but made the quality of what I do put out, so much better. She is my motivation, 100 percent. Dead Beat Productions is what I've been claiming for almost seven years now. A google search on that name let me know that would NOT be the name we would use for the music biz. It started as my boy Drew, and myself. Rapping at house parties and making low budget discs in one of our many bedroom studios we've used. Then comes Eric Bizzle and DJ SAVAHO. E-Nuts was a fantastic find lyrically speaking, and Drew was stepping back to focus on school at the time so it worked well. We did a few things, but nothing to really get out there. Fast forward almost four years. I had been saving money, building a working studio, and writing material for what seemed like forever. I guess I was also dreaming for the day when I would meet someone who made beats that I liked. Berry's shit was dope, but it was geared for his style. That was the only concern for me. Then, through the amazing powers of the Coffman family, I met DJ Dead Llama. He is a good producer already and he is just getting started in this profession. I have for some reason, been meeting so many amazing people, and talented musicians for years now. I have great feelings for the future of my music thanks to all of the kick-ass people that I have in my corner. Thanks for giving a damn about local music, Dallas.

So here I am, minding my own damn business. When I notice I haven't posted a fucking blog since Atmosphere freaked me out, just by being on mtv. So, to satisfy my own urge to fully utilize this contraption known as Myspace, I'm posting this blog as an update on my status as a musician and a being. Both are more fantastic than I could have dreamed. I turned 27 this year. And I will have an album by this winter, maybe middle winter at latest, and it will be dope. I am apparently going to oversee the entire project at my home studio, and get the first 1000 printed in time to hit the road this winter. I am tentatively looking for dates after Jan. 1st. Holla, if you can help with that. I am really digging making my tunes right here. I will have another album finished hopefully by next summer called "Faces in the Crowd". It will be story raps about random fictional people. Every song will be a different name. Expect a deeper sound, with a more personal touch. You will relate to every song because they will remind you of someone. The next few years are going to see some changes for me professionally, and I am ready. I have an amazing lady who takes good care of me, and an amazing group of people who are close. I continue to meet really kick ass people on the myspace, who I can't wait to meet and hang with when I do some shows! Thank you every one for your support, and it's pretty cool how I will hit 20,000 plays in just over 6 months on myspace! The phrase, 'Fuck an A' just doesn't describe it for me. And that normally would do it. I am done for now, peace ya'll.
