Hey there guys, howz it goin?  Can you believe that it is May already?  This year has gone pretty fast so far...

As you may know, we were in the studio last weekend to record the first 2 songs of our debut E.P (released in June), they are sounding fantastic and we are really pleased with them.  You now have the chance to have a wee sample of both of the new songs on our page; they are entitled;

"Feeling Edgy (round this hard bastard!)"

and

"Romantic Antics"

Please feel free to comment and let us know what you think.  If anyone in the Forfar area tonight (Friday 1st May), we are playing live at The Plough Inn if you fancied coming along, should be a good night as there a few other good bands on the bill also.

We are back in the studio again this weekend to record up to 3 more tracks to help finalise our debut E.P which you can get your hands on for the very first time @ our 1st E.P launch-night, held @ Dexters in Castle Street, Dundee on Friday 5th June.  So, we hope to see plenty of you there!!

Anyways, hope to see plenty of you soon, and please feel free to comment us anytime, any feedback is always very much appreciated...

Cheers,

NEW GIGS ANNOUNCED:

Hey folks, howz it goin?  Just a wee update about what we got in store for you.  You may have noticed that we got plenty gigs coming up soon;

NEXT ONE is @ Drouthy's Bar on The Perth Road on Saturday 11th April also playing with us are our pals and fellow Dudonians THE TWIST; we all went to see them recently (Friday 27th March) at a packed Chambers; was a good night and they played a top set...also playing are visitors to the City of Discovery and popular up & coming band THE BANTER THIEFS, so it should be a cracking night, get yourself down there!

We are also playing @ The Underground on Tuesday 14th April with Beatles Tribute-band REVOLVER...

Then we got a gig @ The Hideout in Abertay Union, playing with us are popular Fife-band TANGO IN THE ATTIC and making their comeback in The City of Discovery are HIGH-5-ALIVE from Glasgow who have proved to be very popular in Dundee in the past...

We are looking for an exciting bumper crowd for this one and it promises to be a great night, so all MONROW fans; NEW and OLD, get yourself along to that one, because it is a tidy wee set-up and nice atmosphere down there...Hope to see plenty new and familiar faces and don't be shy, come and say hello!  We will also have plenty new MONROW badges for sale if you'd like one for yourself...

By then, Bov, our drummer's broken hand will have been fully healed and ready for some stick action!  They say bad luck comes in 3's; firstly our big comeback headline-gig @ The Doghouse (supposed to be Saturday 28th March) was cancelled due to the venue's closure, then Bov broke his hand, then we got a last minute call to support top Fife-band SERGEANT @ Fat Sams LIVE (also on 28th March), sadly we had to turn it down, which was gutting and a real shame because we all big Sergeant fans and it would've been an honour to share the same stage with them and play in front of a big vibrant young crowd.  However, not to be too disheartened, we got lots of gigs coming your way very soon, so go check them out and hopefully you can fit MONROW into your busy social calendar, you will NOT be disappointed!

Ciao for now!

Hey guys, how is 2009 treating you so far?  Well, we not had the best of luck lately, firstly our big comeback-headline gig on Saturday 28th March @ THE DOGHOUSE had to be cancelled due to closure, which was extremely sad  and I know that many people are a bit peeved off by this because so many people were looking forward to this gig; especially ourselves and loyal fans!  And also, a lot of gig-goers and bands hold the venue close to their hearts but here's hoping that one of Scotland's best live-music venues makes a swift return in the near future, fingers crossed!  Maybe it was just as well, because earlier in the week (week commencing Monday 16th March), our drummer BOV (Donald) broke his hand after an accident  so we would not have actually made the gig anyways!  Sadly, this has also postponed our plans to go into the studio on 4th and 5th April as Bov's cast doesn't come off until the 3rd   so here's wishing Bov and his wee hand a quick recovery!

However, it's not all bad news, this next few months is looking to be an exciting time for the band and there are still plenty more gigs to come, we hoping to play as many new towns and venues as possible, and if you want us to come play your town or local venue feel free to give us a shout or message us!  Please check the gig-listings for more details...

We have been writing some great new material recently and we are going into the studio soon (albeit later than planned!) to record some new tracks, which you will able to sample on the page very soon...

Our eagerly awaited debut EP is set to be launched at the start of June and will be available for you to purchase at gigs, as well as directly from us by email ...

Also, please check out our very first badges that have just been produced, you can have one of these for just £1, again you can purchase one of these @ gigs or by emailing us...

Anyways, please feel free to comment us and check out our gig-listings and we hope to see you at a gig very soon....bye for now :o)

MONROW, the best new band you haven't heard???

MONROW are Gregor McNally (vocals/guitar), Calum Stewart (bass/vocals), Gary Brown (lead-guitar) and Donald Bain (drums).

Since their first gig @ The Doghouse alongside friends and fellow Dundee band The Frets (23rd May 2008), MONROW have come a long way. Turning heads in pubs and clubs wherever they go with their positive music, up-beat tunes and witty lyrics that you just can't help smiling and tapping your feet to. The band have also supported John Power (formerly of THE LA'S and CAST),Chris Helme (THE YARDS & SEAHORSES) and played alongside other top local bands such as The Underclass, Figure 5, Luva Anna, The Trend, The Brogues, The Goodnights and The Draymin...

Forming in late 2007, they started out with founding members Gregor and former guitarist Davie Gourlay. After initially writing material in Davie’s spare-room, they decided to take the next step and recruit some band members. After a couple of months of jamming/rehearsing with a couple of different line-ups, they felt the band was complete - it consisted of Davie, Gregor, Calum and Donald. After many phone-calls and texts looking around the area for another guitarist, the final member finally came in the form of Gary, then the band was complete, MONROW were born…

However, after a conflict of interests, in November 2008, Davie and the rest of the band parted company, meaning Gregor switching back to rhythm guitar and Gary switching to lead. The change proved hard-work in the early stages, with basically Gary and Gregor having to re-learn lots of new stuff. Understandably they were a tad apprehensive and nervous about their first gigs as a 4-piece, but they came through them with flying colours and are getting better with each practice and gig.

I first saw these guys in DEXTERS in Dundee on 9th October 2008 playing an acoustic-set before seeing the legend that is John Power. I didn't go to Dexters that evening with any high expectations of seeing anyone else other than one of Brit-pop's greatest artists. However, Monrow left a very good first impression and I found myself tapping my feet to the few songs they played and they then announced that they'd be back the following Friday (17th October 2008) at Dexters to play an electric-set, I thought to myself, they definitely worth another look. They gave out free demo CD's that night which included the tracks, "City Stares", "Before Your Time", "Jasper McClasper", "He Writes She Likes" and "On The Floor"...I really enjoyed listening to the CD, so was looking forward to this gig in anticipation. They played a rousing set that night, with a very excited crowd made up largely of teenage fans.  The crowd got really into them and I was really surprised by how many people who already knew the words to the songs!

Since first seeing them play, I have had the pleasure of meeting all the guys in the band and catching quite a few more gigs. I went through to see them play Nice n Sleazy in Glasgow's Sauchiehall Street on Friday 23rd January. It was a great night, and the boys were great company, although I was rather merry by the end of it all!

They played a great set which included:

Top new song “Romantic Antics”; a tale about forbidden love and the consequences that go with it.

City Stares”; rousing tune about a random day walking about in Dundee where there were strange goings on and people kept staring.

Jasper McLasper”; great little tune with amusing lyrics about a guy who pays to sleep with his skint neighbour as a favour, but they end up conceiving a child and now the guy's up shit-creek!

He Writes She Likes”; crowd favourite about a former junkie who now writes in a successful band, and is about how every new band are jumping on the bandwagon and writing about the same stuff, but this band are putting an end to that as they are writing about this stuff the best!

Before Your time”; about a young girl who craves older men, is easy and goes sleeping around with just about anyone and makes a fool of herself. Or, as Calum bluntly puts it; “This song's aboot a tart!”

On The Floor”; perhaps my favourite, although they are all top tunes. “This song's about getting' fucked!” as Calum puts it. About a guy and his Jekyll & Hyde-like character, and his girlfriend not being too best-pleased!

I have all their songs recorded live on video, if you want to check out my YouTube Channel:

http://www.youtube.com/user/greig1997

The band are taking a bit of time out in the recording studio, to practice some more and work on writing some new material. Their next gig, and arbuably their biggest night-to-date, is a headline slot @ The Doghouse on Saturday 28th March.

With their brilliant guitar melodies, witty lyrics and tunes that you can't help but dance and tap your feet to, I believe Monrow have what it takes to do very well indeed and in Gregor McNally, they have a confident, new fresh-faced indie pin-up for all the young teenage girls to swoon over. So, if you have nothing planned for Saturday 28th March, get yourself down to The Doghouse in Dundee's Brown Street and see MONROW in action, they might just be the best new band you haven't heard...

Dexters -Fri 17th October..

MONROW; I first saw these guys in DEXTERS on 9th October playing an acoustic-set before seeing the legend that is JOHN POWER. They played a rousing set, with a very excited crowd made up largely of teenage fans, but I anticipate a much vastly larger age-range coming to see them at future gigs. The crowd got really into them and I was really surprised by how many people who already knew the words to the songs! Like I said, it won't be just a huge teenage following that they build-up, through word-of-mouth, I believe Monrow have what it takes to do very well and in Gregor McNally, they have a confident, new fresh-faced indie pin-up for all the young teenage girls to swoon over. Expect to hear a lot more about Monrow in the near future. You will love Monrow if you appreciate the music of THE CORAL, THE VIEW, SERGEANT, THE LAW and THE BEATLES...
