I posted some new song updates towards the end of last week. As always, you can download everything I post, and they are all licensed under a creative commons license. Just a few notes:
midnight 1989 - was written while I was recording my first CD suburban myths. I think it was one of the only songs that I wrote while I was recording, the others had been toted around for years and changed repeatedly. This one pretty much hit the tape and stayed that way, I've never played it live that I can remember. I like the spooky feel to it, though. And I found the crickets effects and the car passing online somewhere, and worked them into the intro.
grain of salt - this is one that was pretty much written and recorded quickly as well, when I was doing my second album, seventeen stories. I like the song, but I could have fleshed it out more. Maybe someday I'll re-record it with a little more instrumentation. The guitar parts are pretty straight forward strumming and I think it needs a little something more if I ever revisit it. I have only played this live a handful of times, but it seems to go over fairly well.
black death love - this is a nearly-there demo of a new one that will be on my always-upcoming album, Time you've killed and blood you've spilled. It is sort of a companion piece to midnight 1989 above, not in lyrical content but moreso in tone. To me both of those are kind of eerie songs, in a good way I hope.
whiskey bottle - this song has gone through many incarnations since probably the early nineties. I've played this in most bands I've been with during that time period in some shape or form,as well as acoustically, and it's always a crowd pleaser. A silly little song with a pretty cool riff. I like the spacey guitar solo part in the middle, too.
I'll probably leave these up for a couple days, and then replace them with fresh ones. I've got nothing if lots and lots of songs. So download them, copy them, share them, slap them on a mix CD in between Coolio and Slaughter, or whatever you like. And if you don't like them, bookmark me, and come back in a few days, I may post some you love. There's more where they came from.
