ahhhh.......settled.

Its saturday. feels like a monday morning. I got one more gig to go on this little jaunt around the UK and then its full on hibernation time for me for a few weeks. Up to liverpool tomorrow night - im hoping i dont get another black eye - like my last trip to liverpool ended.....what can i say? it was some dirty girl who wanted to fight like a chavvy lad, kind of amusing but she was a scary creature with about 8 boyfriends behind her. Not cute.
Its been ace to reacquaint myself with England. Getting used to being home after living in San Francisco for 4 months was a lovely challenge. Apart from the killer jet lag which drove me nuts for about 3 weeks.....ugh. All the gigs were really great but i apologise to anyone who caught me in a walking coma, sleepwalking across the country in my green shoes....im thinking the cornwall to birmingham stint particularly...I got home to cov to play which is always a nice buzz to go back to the roots and i played in my first ever barn! That was pretty fkn brilliant.
The norwich gig last wednesday was lovely as i knew it would be. Steve and Jan are officially my favourite promoters in this kingdom - they always attract a great room of listeners and know my penchant for Jack Daniels. And they have a bar in their house. Yikes. It was all i could do to try and get to sleep with that hanging over you. haha. god i sound like a right alchy. Also on the bill were the brilliant 'Girl in a thunderbolt', dumbfounders and Ed Sheeran ( check him out NOW! he's is going to be everywhere very soon - awesome and such a nice lad.) Got up bright and early on thurs morn to get myself back down to london for the 12 bar gig. I played my first ever gig at the 12 bar. It was an afternoon gig on some crap day like a tuesday or something - Its grungy enough to feel dirty and cool enough to feel intimate and special. Anyone who was there - what do we think - electric? or acoustic? or both?????
Its been interesting this time round playing these gigs. Im all over the dirty electric guitar right now. im getting inspired all over again! Which is always welcomed...but im at this place where ive got a new group of songs on my hands but half of it is my acoustic style that ive been doing for the past few years and the other half is this more hard electric sound thats been born in me since i met bloody Green Day...its all their fault. I know some of you didnt dig the full rocky band sound....the intimate acoustic thing is more what you want to hear and some of you are the total opposite! damn....whats a boy to do. Im thinking maybe a couple of EP's rather than an album? hmmmmm....dunno. thoughts please......You're the one buying and listening so your input is needed...im gonna hole myself up in January and get creative.

London is getting COLD. I got myself one of those russian hats with the floppy ears so i look like a human dog. Not a bad look. And you can pee wherever you like and no one bats an eyelid.

I'll re-connect before Christmas folks - get out there and enjoy the cool weather and warm friends. Im going to a costume party tonight called jungle fever. Im going as a panda - they're from the jungle right? It was that or Katie Price. I just dont have the legs (knockers)

wow. was it really aug 8th when i last posted a blog?? Sorry bloggers...i guess i got caught up in living life rather than blogging it. And facebook and twitter have made it miles easier to do mini snippets of blogs so i can sum up an afternoon in a short sharp sentence. Sitting down to write a few paragraphs seems oh so medieval!
American Idiot finished to riotous applause on Sunday night. My body had been anticipating the finish line about 2 weeks ago. I was done in. Knackered. Exhausted. Im not one to let my social life slip in the wake of a performance but the last 2 weeks ive spent more time in pre-hibernation than i have down some dirty dive bar. Unusual. But much needed. I hope you get to see it one day. It truly is a unique theatrical experience that will leave your eyeballs spasming for days cos they just didnt know where to look. I hear that the 4th and 5th times you see it you actually get to sit back and absorb it. That must be what kept people coming back for more. Im ready for my bed to absorb me for the rest of the winter.... its been fkn brilliant. Lets see which direction the monster heads in next. There are many tricks up many sleeves.
So despite the fact that we finished up 2 days ago im backstage right now blogging away while i wait for the next film shot to be called. We're back in the theatre all day filming parts of the show to be used for im not quite sure what in the future. I've never done any film or TV work before but if its anything like this you can count me out....so boring. Wheres the live action and the people????!!!! its all machines and free coffee and bananas. Which i love so its all good. And i get to catch up with some shit i've fell behind on whilst ive been chasing my tail around Berkeley.
I had to move my New York gig this week because tomorrow we are heading to Jingletown studios to record something with Green Day.(its now on thursday at 11pm) When im allowed, i'll fill you in. It sounds pretty ace. Who'd have thought i'd be sharing a recording studio with Green Day???hahha.....so random i love it. And they truly have inspired me to play the electric guitar. It makes me fell well 'ard. The new album is gonna be a little surprising i feel. I've done a couple of gigs when i've had the voice and been trying out some new songs - 'taxidermy' 'cinema' 'love wins' 'the longer i leave it' 'everything more' and no doubt i'll be shaping them more when i get home this weekend and get back out playing for my fine british fellows! I am well ready to get back home and a)go to horse meat disco and b) get out and play some gigs. I encourage you to join me at both.
I feel strange again leaving this life ive adapted to the past 4 months. Uprooted again. Im like a tree on wheels. So its time to wave goodbye to the bloody mary's with guiness at El Rio, the best tacos this side of mexico at Taqueria El Sol, Ji Juan and the high tide/outsider (geary and jones - go there..she should be president of the earth), Dotties (many a hungover breakfast here), Lees Hawaiian chicken bowls, Amandas, Majid and Far at the best organic juice bar this side of pluto, polk st, Aunt Charlies (jupiter and chocolate bon bon.....yeah baby), cafe gratitude ( i am dirty), the loading dock, geary roof top, Taylor suites, cheap nasty beer, the castro, fantastiche and every other thing i've richoted off in the past 4 months. San Francisco is rad. And Theo Stockman is rad. I am all over it.

Full of love. And anxiety. Theres room for it all. I cant wait to see Kieran Bennett.

Some one may have left their heart in San Francisco but i have left a roast dinner in england. Does anyone know where i can get a bloody roast dinner in this town???!!! Despite my yearning for yorkshire pudding and a face of beef i am riding San Francisco like the horse that she is. Its fkn rad here. This city is so vibrant and has so many crack heads that you would think crack is the new black. Maybe they're not on crack,... i've had that look in my eyes on a few early sunday mornings falling out of Turnmills. Hehehe. Only been here a week or so and staying downtown in the heart of the city. We commute to Berkeley everyday and ive eaten some of the best mexican food ever made by anyone. Including Chipotle. Ive hit up the castro and got hit on by a doctor in the smoking area who was in town for the world lung cancer conference. Im serious. Im chilling now after a nut case day rolling around the floor and doing Catherine Tate impressions. Listening to Frankmusiks new album. The re-complete me section is nice nice nice. More poppy than i wanted but i feel like pop is making a welcome return back into my life. I used to be in a boyband after all. I have pop blood. Made of sugar. Laced with with nicotine. I was trying to think of a way to describe my music without having some lame answer that makes people yawn and fall on top of you. I like "conversational pop". What d'ya think? Rehearsals for American Idiot are up and running and i am getting my ass kicked. Vocally and physically. Its always strange going back to theatre when you havent done it for a while. Its so different to putting my guitar on my back and rocking up to play my own gig where i can pretty much do whatever the hell i want. But thats also the pull of it too. Its refreshing to get out of your creative head and sit inside someone elses. Its incredibly inspiring to be surrounded by super talented folk who could sing the shit out of you if you so wanted. We rehearse 6 days a week 11 - 7, i've become a pro at breakfast to go, checking for wallet, keys and phone before legging it to the BART with an egg bagel in one hand and the other keeping my jeans up sort of around my waist. My arse is always on show i am told. Me and the choreographer Steven Hoggett are both brits so proper english breakfast tea bags have been making regular appearances whilst our american counterparts sink coffee and post candy bars. The show itself is coming together gradually...... its a pretty unusual process for a pretty unusual show. I dont really want to say too much about it because words could not do it justice. Its a physical emotional punch in the head for an hour and a half done with such poetic and dramatic intent that you will probably leave the theatre a little exhausted. Kind of like when i went to see Bruno the other day. Ok, its a Friday night in San Francisco and im sitting here blogging. Jeez. Thats commitment. But i havent wrote for a while so thought i should say hi and fill you guys in. Im off to take loads of drugs and party my face off and go straight to rehearsals 2m at 11 jacked on caffeine. I mean, im about to have a hot bath in epsom salts and watch some crap american TV and eat veg. Excuse me while i yawn and fall asleep on top of myself. Over and out peeps DB X PS. does anyone want to follow me on twitter? putting the feelers out. it scares me....your call

want one of these please

Im back from Glastonbury. On a downer. You just dont want to leave. I could live quite happily inside Horse Meat Disco for eternity. I have fallen in love with Florence and the Machine. I am already in love with Ladyhawke but she needs to move about a bit. Jason Mraz got me through my 3rd hangover in a row on Saturday and Pete Doherty reminded me why i stop drinking eventually. Jake - we lost you in Trash City - where the hell did you go?! I dont remember leaving.

So this week sees the last 2 London gigs im doing for a few months guys so it'd be great to see your face at them....Lets call them post Glastonbury gigs to keep the festival spirit going!

Tomorrow night (wed 1st July) im playing a totally unplugged set at a brand new night called Softly Softly. No mics, no PA, just good old voices and instruments. Im on the bill with some rockin good people so come down and show some support for this new night ran by Miss Annie Windley! She knows how to put a great night on so expect an incredible night of music at an awesome venue with an outdoor terrace that we can share some beer on..

A last minute slot has also been confirmed now for this sunday 5th July at The Hope and Anchor on Upper St, Islington. Im playing a special early set with support from Sean Redmond who rocks my world. He's fkn brilliant. Sean is going on at 6 - 6:30 and i'll be playing from 6:45 - 7:30pm.

Then im heading to San Francisco for 3 months...man. Just as i was settling back into london! i am going to be part of the original cast of the new Green Day project 'American Idiot' ..... more news to follow....i met Billie Joe.. wow he's small. And not green.

So come see the gigs this week before i get all west coast on your ass dudes....

Made it to Indiana safe and sound. Though that plane was tiny and the clouds were big. Scary. Im a pretty shit flyer. Always feel like im about to end up in a hot mess in the ocean.

So im back over this way to do some gigs that im dead excited about because Mr Phillip Powers, who for those of you dont know is the the best drummer you've ever met, is playing on the first couple of shows with me! Im not going to give too much away but he can play bass and drums at the same time. I know. Shut - Up.

Tonights gig is at Mo's, tomorrows is at Muldoons and Saturday night im playing a solo set at The Rathskeller, outside.. (weather permitting.....)

Thank you to everyone who came out the Living Room show in NYC last weekend. It was so nice to see a load of familiar faces and extra nice to get back on stage with Jared and his shaved head. And to everyone who bought me a jack and coke, brownie points.

This Sunday June 21st is the Time Out Make Music New York festival again..... and we're doing the coffee shop crawl again, this time with more musicians and maybe some amplification. Full details of the crawl below. Bring your Dads.

I just ate a warm salad with steaming hot balsamic vinegar on the side. Is that some weird indiana thing? Hmmmm....

Have any of you been listening to Ladyhawke? Im obsessed. She is the soundtrack to my month.....'Paris is burning' and 'Delerium' are hogging my ipod and i would like to kiss her i think.

Ive been being all creative recently. I got the video bug when we made the Therapy video and since then i've been dreaming up all kinds of ideas for videos for my tracks that most would all have to come out with an 18 rating. 'Thin Air' is begging for a Quentin Tarantino treatment .

A few of you asked for a Blu tack vid and its been in my head for a while so i sat down with the giant that is David Angel who does all my photography (www.david-angel.com) and last week he helped the idea come to life....

So this Friday June 5th the official Blu Tack video will debut on the internet!

And to celebrate the release of the new vid my t-shirts gone all blue on the top of my myspace page. Fun.

THE INDEPENDENT!

My set at last weeks Wychwood Festival got a mention today in the Independent newspaper which was very lovely. I particularly loved The Wonder Stuff and dancing my nuts off to 'Size of a Cow'. Genius. It was a shame i missed Supergrass on the sat night but randomly i met the drummers daughter at JFK airport last night. Hello again Daisy. She's a model. And a very pretty one at that. Not as hairy as the rest of Supergrass. As well as my opening slot at the fest. i also made my second appearance at Silent Disco. The problem with playing a set at a festival at 2am in the morning is your not exactly sober. But so fkn fun. And i forgot how much i missed waking up hungover in sweaty tent in blistering heat. Lovely. Thank you to Tamsin Vella (soon to be president of the music industry) she rocks. She brought a stove and bacon and eggs and tea bags and milk and cooked a fry up for us on saturday morning. That changed my life and she is officially in my will.

Im writing this blog sitting in an apartment in New York City! I arrived back in the big apple yesterday after a lovely flight where i didnt have to sink one diazepam. The sun is rocking himself all over us here like he was in london. We drank pear cider all night and chowed down on perogies at the Polish cafe. Im having a glass of milk now and gonna get down Tompkins square park for a bit of lazing about and eye candy. If anyones near come join me.

And New yorkers dont forget im playing a full set at The Living Room (154 Ludlow st, Lower East Side) on Saturday June 13th. And Mr Jared Stein will be joining me on piano! He's a vegan.

the wonderful Ellen Mcauslan who created the idea for the 'Therapy' single has kindly let us post the whole thing in all its animated glory up here for you all to see how the whole process kicks off. i love shit like this. i hope you do too. go to the photos page and see the all the pages of the storyboard and check out the new profile background too.

im the guy holding the pinkish ball of string. you'll notice this was red in the video. a creatively controlled choice. but i think you'll find we stuck to the board like cigarettes stick to your lips when its really cold and then you go to take a blast and take the whole top layer of skin off. except this wont cause you any pain. its purely for wholesome enjoyment.

and if you still havent seen the real thing - head on over to
