Some songwriting friends and myself are going to book more private house shows this year. If you have a house (LA, OC, San Diego) that can sit 20+ people and you are interested, send me an email.

Having a different name can suck. I call Taco Mesa and leave my name. Usually it's "Eric?" "Derrick?" "Barry?" I also realized that somehow over the years I have acquired more nicknames than should be assigned to any one person. A short list (the one that's stuck the longest and used most frequent is "Boo"). Boo, Dr. Boo, Punky Booster, Booster Seat, BJ, Bobo, B Jolps, Bo Jangles, Barry (Ryan Callis thinks this is hilarious), Bo Bo Bubba Johnson, Bare, Care Bear......I've let a girl call me Barren for over a year. After correcting someone 4 or 5 times, I'll give up. God Bless nicknames.

Chapter One. So, here's how it starts. A friend's daughter leaves a pair of little red shoes when they move to another country. My roommate so cleverly puts them in my pillowcase. I return them in his glove compartment. He returns them again. I return them in a small pocket in his school back pack. I loved the idea that he's pulling out some books in class and accidentally pulls out a pair of little girls' red shoes with them. Not a word is said about them. This goes on for weeks. It ends when I was visiting a friend in Texas and I found out later that he had mailed them to me when I was out there and they got lost in the mail. Chapter Two. A bouquet of fake flowers is not something I want to see around the house. Ever. Instead of throwing them out, I shove them behind some of my roommates stuff in his room. They are returned promptly on top of my car. I put them back in the pocket of a coat in his closet with the arms tied around them. Cradling them like a baby. I haven't seen or found the flowers in weeks. Chapter 3. I'm lying on my bed watching t.v. the other night with the lights off before falling asleep. On top of my air conditioning unit, barely peaking out behind the curtain, is a fake rat with fur. Someone is going to fucking get it.

So I've been assisting Dallas on some projects. If you don't know him and you're looking to record, I have some good news. In addition to having awesome vintage studio gear and instruments (Hammond B3, Farfisa Organ, Early 1900's pump organ, accordions, tube mic's, whisper room, etc etc) he has amazing ears. He arranged the string quartet on a couple songs on my album, produced a song (It's not your fault), arranged vocals, and so on. If you are a song writer or are in a band and are looking to record an album or even a few songs, send me or him an email and see if it's something that would work for you. We both know and are friends with some great session players and love working with new people. He's in my top friends. xoxox barrett

Feeling very thankful. To Jon Rinella, Dave Colvin, Dallas Kruse, John Hanson, PJ Wyderka, Joy and the other players that made recording so interesting. Especially to Jon, Dave, and Dallas who spent so much time on this with no motivation other than making music. I’ve been feeling more and more thankful for alot of other things even more important than music lately (I never thought I’d ever say that). I have nothing that I did not receive.
