Here I am, 8:30am, minding my own business, when all of a sudden, I see a news article about Mary, who is making tons of money placing links on the internet, working from home. The link was in AOL's news section, and it was an article from the New York Gazette. It was in reference to Google ads and links. A list of comments shows that everyone is really interested, and several people posted their earnings. It's like, Ok, I can do this. But then comes that good old fine print. To my horror, but not surprise, "Mary" was not even a real person. Check it out: THE STORY DEPICTED ON THIS SITE AND THE PERSON DEPICTED IN THE STORY ARE NOT REAL. RATHER, THIS STORY IS BASED ON THE RESULTS THAT SOME PEOPLE WHO HAVE USED THESE PRODUCTS HAVE ACHIEVED. THE RESULTS PORTRAYED IN THE STORY AND IN THE COMMENTS ARE ILLUSTRATIVE, AND MAY NOT BE THE RESULTS THAT YOU ACHIEVE WITH THESE PRODUCTS. THIS PAGE RECEIVES COMPENSATION FOR CLICKS ON OR PURCHASE OF PRODUCTS FEATURED ON THIS SITE.
The next thing I found interesting is they say you have to buy certain software. That's rule number one in fighting off scams, DONT BUY ANYTHING for a job! But, it's only $1.97 for s/h. No, actually, if you read the fine print, it's $59.95 a month, for your QuickCashPro membership, after your free 3 day trial period. BUT, you have also been enrolled into Fraud Protection (yeah, right) billed at $6.95 per month, after 14 days AND Identity Theft Protection of $9.95 per month after 21 days free trial. Oh, and by the way, any prior charges are NON REFUNDABLE AND a monthly service fee of $1 is applied to each! Ok, let's see if we have this straight. $59.95 a month for the QuickCashPro membership. Check. We are also being signed up for "Additional Services" at $6.95 a month for Fraud Protection. Check $9.95 a month for Identity Theft Protection. Check (Btw, I don't see any "guarantees" like others offer. You know, like if someone does steal your info, is there an UP TO $1 million insurance protection for you? Hmm. Probably not. Probably a max pay out of fees paid. Note to self: look into that one). $2.00 "Additional Services" fee; $1 for ID and $1 for Fraud protection. Check. So, so far we are up to $78.85 a month, if my math is correct. But wait, just like every bad offer, That's not all; there's more! That's right, you have Google Fortune Pro Fees; which are not clearly outlined as recurring or one time fees. But, the assumption is, it's monthly, and depends on how much bandwidth used. Nevertheless, the demonstration here will be face value, $2.95 "Delivery Fee", You pay the Fees via the credit that you provide as part of your Application or update as a later date ("Active Credit Card"). Your Trial Offer (when available), a bandwidth ("Delivery") fee of Two dollars and Ninety-Five cents ($2.95) ("Delivery Fee").
But, thats not all. There's the Google Biz Kit fee. The resource center is billed at $81.32 monthly, for a minimum monthly fee of $163.12, IF my math is correct AND IF I caught all the charges! A far cry from the less than $4 claimed in the "article".
What about cancelling? Well, good luck there. You are agreeing that you are not entitled to a refund of any upfront cost, any shipping and handling, and to not be charged any future occuring fees, you must give ample notice, 2 business days, and oh, did they mention, that you will be billed "on or ABOUT the same day..." So, when exactly is the billing date, so I can cancel 2 business days before? Or, when we call is it, "Oh, I'm sorry, we already billed you. Might as well stay in another month now"?
Ok, so the article states that Mary decided to do Google because it's a publically traded company and the safest bet. Oops. Guess what? This is NOT a news article. It's an advertisment. If you look at the top you can barely see the grey font that says "advertisement". Oh, and under the Huge Official NEW YORK GAZETTE NEWS is another tiny and grey fonted phrase that blends into the background so you can barely see it, "This site is not affiliated with any newspaper publication". And again, Mary is fictitious. Read it again: THE STORY DEPICTED ON THIS SITE AND THE PERSON DEPICTED IN THE STORY ARE NOT REAL. RATHER, THIS STORY IS BASED ON THE RESULTS THAT SOME PEOPLE WHO HAVE USED THESE PRODUCTS HAVE ACHIEVED. THE RESULTS PORTRAYED IN THE STORY AND IN THE COMMENTS ARE ILLUSTRATIVE So beware, Mary is not real. And, btw, for all the talk about Google, they aren't even associated with this, IN ANY WAY: Google is in no way associated with this website. The Publisher and Author disclaim any personal liability, loss or risk incurred as a consequence of the use and application of the offer, either directly or indirectly, of any advice, information, or methods presented in this publication. Individual comments are unedited and not the opinion of Author or Publisher and not liable for their comments and opinions.
This is so typical of so many of these schemes. DO NOT BE FOOLED by this or any other scheme. The reason you are even considering something like this is because you are in a huge financial bind; or soon will be. Take the time to read the small hard to read fonts, and see if what you are getting into is really what you think you are getting into. You won't find the truth in the big fluffy print; but rather in the small fine print, where they are legally obligated to tell the truth. It's your duty to read and know what you are getting into. Afterall, if they tell you what they are doing, and you get involved anyway, who's fault is it? It does not matter if they are unethical, unscrupulous, preying on the poor, hard luck people. Tim

As many of you know, we are doing a series of seminars with auction site founders as an alternate to selling on eBay. The idea is to bring buyers and sellers together, so sellers can make money, and buyers can find great bargains. This past week we met with Kevin and Heather of MustSellItToday.com and I must say, their unique approach to selling is quite awesome and may revolutionize how we do business. But, rather than my telling you, why not take a view at the seminar, and let them explain everything.
LegendsOfBatman: Welcome to the ebay alternates seminars. This week we have MustSellItToday.com htubild: ok, here goes. i have something prepared to copy and paste. kind of long. ok to post? then we can answer any questions. htubild: MustSellitToday.com is a brand-new website and an alternative to eBay. htubild: Some Key Selling Points are: 99 cents per listing until sold. No other final value fees or other fees. htubild: Sell faster: If you get a good offer, take it. Why wait a week? Accept any offer any time. htubild: Get paid faster: Your buyer has 4 to 12 hours to pay you--or your item automatically goes back on sale. Why wait for your money? htubild: Background: Last year, while looking at ads on craigslist, I noticed that about one in every 10 or 15 ads had an extra message: MUST SELL IT TODAY. Maybe the seller had a bill to pay or a gift to buy, and was willing to part with his item for a lower price AS LONG AS IT HAPPENED TODAY! htubild: I have bought and sold on eBay since 2002 and have maintained a 100% feedback rating. (My username, ktubild, comes from my initials and my other company, u-bild.com. See my feedback here: http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=ktubild&ftab=AllFeedback.) htubild: It seemed to me that there wasn?t a website specifically designed to help sellers get rid of their stuff (and get paid) FAST. So I developed MustSellitToday.com. I figured MustSellitToday.com would be useful to "must" sellers (fast sale and fast payment) and "bargain" buyers (fast sale and low prices). htubild: To me, if you need to sell your item (and get paid) fast, other online auction sites take too long. Auctions typically last a week and all the action takes place in the final few minutes, frequently in the final few seconds. Craigslist is generally limited to a certain area, requires local pick-up and has no competitive bidding process or online payment option. Where would you go if you wanted or needed to sell something right away, but still wanted to have competitive bidding for your item? comment: hmm... interesting... your site has emphasis on faster selling and buying. I kinda like that htubild: I also think that the popular auction sites are too costly and too complicated. They are filled with restrictions on listings and on deals that take place outside the site. They are dominated by large retailers. Plus, they no longer had the fun, flea-market atmosphere and bargain hunting they once had. htubild: So I decided to create a new auction site. MustSellitToday.com is: htubild: FASTER: I figured that transactions would be a lot speedier if somehow the process got turned around so that the action would come at the beginning instead of the end. So how to zip things along? htubild: There was a very simple solution: let sellers accept any offer from any buyer at any time. If a seller receives an acceptable offer within minutes of listing, he would be able to sell within minutes. Why wait a week? htubild: Then, to make sure sellers get paid fast, MustSellitToday.com puts buyers on the clock as soon as their offer is accepted. Buyers are required to make payment in 4-12 hours, depending on the sellers? wishes, and ratings for buyers include information about how fast they pay. If payment isn?t made in the time allowed, the item goes back on sale and the offers resume. This way, buyers can pick up a bargain if they are willing to pay fast. question: so.. it's open ended auction? htubild: there is no end point. take any offer any time from anyone. htubild: CHEAPER: I also came to the conclusion that final value fees had no business rationale whatsoever other than to take a few extra bucks off sellers. What difference does it make to the website host whether the item listed sells for $30 or $3000? The computing power for the listing costs him the same. htubild: MustSellitToday.com charges only a flat fee. And a simple one at that: 99 cents Per Listing Until Sold. NO Final Value Fees or other fees. And free want to buy ads. htubild: You can also make a deal outside of the site or link to your own site, because we don't need to collect any final value fees. Arrange a trade if you wish. htubild: EASIER: Finally, having heard from many people over the years, young and old, that auction sites were too slow and complicated, I decided to make it simple and fast for anyone to list or buy an item for sale. You will not need a "Video Professor" or an "MSiT for Dummies" to use our site. htubild: Financial: MustSellitToday.com has no debt and was self-funded by earnings from U-Bild (u-bild.com). U-Bild is the nation's oldest woodworking plan company (established 1948). We have owned and operated it since 1995. htubild: Marketing: Our launch campaign is coordinated by audettemedia.com and includes PPC (since 4/1), SEO, blog (by 5/1), PR, social media including a growing twitter following http://twitter.com/MustSellitToday posting and participation in related blogs and forums like powersellersunited, posting in category-specific forums and anything else we can think of including car signs, walking fairs and swap meets etc. htubild: Also, it's now easy to post your listing or any listing to Facebook, MySpace and Twitter with just a couple clicks. htubild: Addressing Issues with eBay: We have tried to address every issue sellers have been having with eBay, including feedback, cost, non-paying buyers, bad customer service, PayPal, slow loading pages and having customers forced upon you. question: Can you expound on that last paragraph? htubild: sure: cost is an obvious one: 99 cents versus x plus final value. htubild: feedback is a two way street. also, buyer feedback includes number of auctions won, number of auctions paid for, average payment time, rating % and comments. htubild: non-paying buyers: if a buyer doesn't pay in the allotted time (4 to 12 hours--seller choice), the item automatically relists. No chasing down deadbeat buyers for a week and then not getting paid. then relisting. htubild: bad customer service: we offer email help as well as a toll free number. if need be, we have back-up staff in our other business to answer questions, help, etc. question: Can a seller choose to lengthen that time, say if a buyer gets paid the next day or has a power outage or something? or, they have Time Warner. lol htubild: it's a set time, but a seller can always re-accept the offer if it gets relisted. buyer and seller are free to arrange a longer time. htubild: site is fast! htubild: paypal is an option but sellers wishing to be completely free of ebay can accept credit cards through authorize.net, which is very easy to use. question: Ok, so, how does that work? I buy something from someone, and I lose my internet connection, because Im Time Warner, and it gets relisted, so, I can remake the offer, explain what happened and hope the seller understands? htubild: When you sell an item, that gets recorded as a sale. the listing will still exist in your "sold" account. You can just go there and hit relist and the same listing will come up. or you can edit. Question: How does that work for fees? You have a dutch auction for 100 widgets, but, one listing. Is the fee $99 or is it one flat fee? htubild: it's just 99 cents per listing. 99 cents not $99 question: Here's the hard question for you.99 cents is not a whole lot. Can you be able to survive long term with this fee? Or, are there other forms of revenue htubild: It is our second business. The site is paid for. We have funds in the bank. Our costs are low and best of all, they are incremental. If the site gets crowded and we require more bandwidth and customer service, that's the problem we want to have. comment: hmm... perhaps you can buy more prominent exposure in the homepage for a fee htubild: we did want to keep it very simple. i like the simple fee structure. we may eventually have outside advertising. comment: yea... I think lots of people here in delphi forums would agree that we need an alternative to eBay. htubild: we would love to have you. it's free to list until april 30 and we may extend the free period to build traffic. question: I do like that fast pay concept But, i do have a few concerns but, at the same time, I always wondered why people would bid, and then not pay for weeks on end. but, the concern i have is 12 hours may not be sufficient htubild: yes, true. that is easy to adjust. so far it hasn't been a problem. if everybody wants to extend it, we'll extend it. we are toying with the idea of having text message notification. question: for example, I signed up with thecollectorsbay after their presentation a few weeks ago. I went to pay, and realized, "Oops. I dont know where to send payment". it took a day for him to respond htubild: the payment system is automated through the site. question: How does that work? htubild: when the seller accepts a buyer's offer, the buyer is notified by email that he won the item and has 4 to 12 hours to pay (determined by seller). Buyer can then pay by paypal or credit card and the system records the payment. we do not keep any cc or paypal info. it just records when the payment has been made. question: does the system give the seller's paypal account info? or, authorize.net's payment info? htubild: the buyer is directed to paypal. he will know who he is sending the money to. no account info beyond that comment: That's the only concern I have regarding a quick turn around like that. Otherwise, I think its awesome. Question: You mentioned Authorize.net as a payment option. What can you tell us about that? htubild: Up til now Kevin has been doing all of the talking about the technical aspects of the site. But from an aesthetic point of view, the thing that I like about the site is how simple and inviting it looks. Most sites are so intimidating looking IMO. I think this will really attract buyers, esp. those not so familiar with the iternet. comment: yes, i would agree htubild: It's a way for sellers to accept credit cards for payment. It's insured just like paypal. You do have to sign up with authorize.net comment: actually, its not insured like Paypal. Im looking at the site now They are actually insured, whereas paypal is not already a huge plus. lol htubild: *MSG* I know a lot of people are down on paypal but when we did the mkt research like 95% of people wanted to use Paypal. So we gave it as an option comment: True. as much as i hate them, because of their ties to ebay, and their fraudulent practices of late, i still use them htubild: I won't tell anyone comment: lol. theyre a necessary evil. for now htubild: Anything else I should mention about MSiT (that's short for mustsellittoday) comment: I like google less. The lower fees arent low enough to justify using them over paypal htubild: We looked at Google checkout and REALLY didn't like it- too complicated comment: too complicated, with no help htubild: exactly question: What are the authorize.net fees? htubild: *MSG* auth.net fees are like typical cc fees like 25 cents + 2.5% htubild: *MSG* I have to get going. Thank you so much for the opportunity to talk to your group. LegendsOfBatman: *MSG* I appreciate your time htubild: *MSG* Thanks!! Just email me any questions.

This week’s eBay Alternative Seminar comes from TheCollectorsBay.com and it’s founder, Fred Lamb. We welcome and thank Fred for taking the time to offer this presentation. What makes this site so special, in my opinion, is it’s a site by collectors for collectors. As a Batman and Star Wars collector, I find this personally exciting. Of course, while they are specialized for collectors, they are not specific towards one type of collector. So, give them a look, after you read what they have to say about themselves, and see what you think.
FredLamb: Everyone's wait is over. Do you hate other auction sites and how they bully everyone? They make you use PayPal, can't rate the buyer, and most importantly the FEE's are terrible. There is a New Auction Site just for Collectors. It's www.thecollectorsbay.com We have just started and are looking for buyers and sellers. We have the 2-way feedback system, accept ALL forms of payment (its up to the seller), Item-Swap Option (Trade), Store option for bulk sellers, NO Listing Fee's for basic auctions, any. Dont take my word for it just because I am the founder of The Collectors Bay. Check it out for yourself and see how much we love the hobby of Collecting in general. We will have at least 2 promotions a month with our customers feedback driving 1 of them. This is truly an auction site that is for Collectors by Collectors. I will be putting up New site News today after the seminar for our April promotions. Again, I myself am a Collector, so getting to Collect and have an auction site is a double bonus for me. NO Listings Fee's for Basic Style auction w/3 pics (3,5,7,10 or 30day). auction style, meaning No Buyout, No Reserve, Bold, Highlighted or anything And relist is always free, relist till it sells. You can add tweaks to an auction like Homepage Featured, Bold etc Those are NON Basic and have a fee but are very cheap. You can check out all our fee's!!! http://www.thecollectorsbay.com/site_fees.phpSome questions that were asked: Q: can you explain your feedback as you said 2-way FredLamb: Absolutely, meaning seller can give to buyer after every transaction, and the buyer can give after every transaction. Under New eBay feedback rules this can't happen. The feedback should be able to go both ways not just in favor of the buyer
Q: Can you edit the invoice for like discounts? FredLamb: invoicing works the same as ebay and yes you can edit invoices.
Q: Are you planning to change fees any time soon? Fred Lamb: To be a real competitor to ebay we wont raise our fee's, they are a giant, to put a dent in their armor we have to be WAY cheaper than them. The only time you will have a fee is iff you add an extra, like Bold, category featured, reserve, etc
Q: Now how about longevity? Fred Lamb: I have been a Collector for 20 years we are very committed to The Collectors Bay being around for the long haul. We have a business plan, 3 partners so where alot of sites fail are funding, we have no such problems. Our funding is very strong. We will not be some site that goes for 2 years not make money and fold, we are committed.
Fred Lamb: Thank you guys so much for your feedback, and this opportunity, remember any questions flamb@thecollectorsbay.com
Look for future seminars, including a second seminar from TheCollectorsBay at the ebay boycott forums, http://forums.delphiforums.com/boycottebay/start

The ebay boycotters Internet Auction Alliance eBay Alternative Seminars have kicked off! If you have missed the seminars, you have missed some really exciting propositions. You can attend future seminars at: http://forums.delphiforums.com/boycottebay/start But, in case you have missed anything, never fear, as we will bring you the Presentation, and post some of the questions and answers. Feel free to ask questions, and I will forward them to the various sites, and get an answer for you. Just remember, while we are bringing these seminars for your benefit, we neither endorse nor encourage you to join or refrain from joining any sites; we are simply providing a means for sites to make their presentations and for you to discover them.
AUCTIONSPIEL.COM Hello, I hope everyone is having a good night, I want to thank you for your time and willingness to learn about AuctionSpiel.com and what it has to offer you. My name is Eddie Mock, and I am the CEO/Owner of AuctionSpiel Inc. I want to get started by giving you a overview of what AuctionSpiel.com is. This is my first presentation so bear with me : ) . First starting with our name, AuctionSpiel.
When I started thinking about a name I wanted something unique, yet easy to remember. I was watching TV and heard somebody say “let me hear your spiel” that was when it clicked. Auction Spiel.
Now the summarized definition of “spiel” is to speak extravagantly for the purpose of luring one to a sale, and I loved it because that is exactly what you do when you list an item, the only difference is that instead of speaking it, you are writing it in an item description. So thats where the name came from and it just stuck.
Lets get into the motivation behind AuctionSpiel and why I created it.
AuctionSpiel.com was a dream of mine, after being fed up with all the high seller fees, and ridiculous policies of the larger internet auction sites. I then thought about my past as a business consultant and how 79% of my clients in the retail industry, who were just starting out, had no idea where to allocate products, or perform test buys. I also thought about how nice it would be if you could network with other sellers and create a community based around auctions and e-commerce.
Now it has become a reality, with several investors backing this project, and the courtesy of the boycott eBay movement allowing me to give this seminar, I hope to launch this site and take AuctionSpiel to the fore front of internet auctions with everyones help.
A True e-Community: I want to let you know first off that AuctionSpiel is not just another internet auction site, and is different in many ways. Mostly because of the innovation and desire to become a true e-community we have implemented several different sites to our network. First off is MySpielSpace, everyone is familiar with social networking but we are bringing in a new era of social and business networking built around internet auctions. MySpielSpace is a place where buyers, sellers, and business owners can go to network with the goal of building valuable business relationships. A directory of our sites can be found at Http://www.auctionspiel.orgSpielTube http://www.auctionspiel.tv, is our video on demand site, we all know how powerful viral marketing can be and to help our members, we are utilizing our SpielTube video on demand site as way to market and advertise their items, products, stores, businesses, and themselves to other members, as well as for entertainment purposes.
Spiel It, http://www.auctionspiel.info, is our content sharing site, which allows members to share content from all over the internet. Our hope is that this will allow for a centralized location of auction related data and information.
Arcade, This was just a fun idea and I remember when I would need a break from the whole auction routine I would go to various websites that offered games, so I included our very own arcade. We have over 300 games installed and ready for you to play when you need a break.
Spiel Stores, http://www.auctionspiel.biz, (Coming Soon) is our hosted e-commerce solution which is currently under development. The idea is to provide sellers their own web store that is hosted on the very same servers as AuctionSpiel. We are working out the details but the overall goal is to provide an additional way for sellers to market their items.
Forums, http://forum.auctionspiel.com, We have created our forums to be another communication tool for our members, you can talk about almost anything and use this as a place to learn, share, vent, and give us your ideas and suggestions.
AuctionSpiel Answers, http://answer.auctionspiel.com, This is similar to other answer sites on the internet today, with the basis for auction related questions, members can ask or answer questions on the site and use it as a way to get others opinions.
And Finally Spiel University, mentoring and coaching for the Internet Auction Seller. This is an exciting project we are working on that will allow Former PowerSellers and our Preferred Sellers to make extra money by providing their knowledge to other sellers. Our Mentors and Coaches will split the income with us 75/25 and provide value added services to all members. This is still under development but will be a great way for members to learn the ropes from the pros.
Its not hard to become a preferred seller on AuctionSpiel, especially if you are already a PowerSeller converting over. Simply let us verify your status and we will enable your Preferred Seller Status on AuctionSpiel. And if your not a PowerSeller, well, all it takes is 500 Positive feedback and you will receive our Preferred Seller Status which will give you a 100% fee reduction on AuctionSpiel.com.
Now lets get into the real reason why we are all here, the internet auction site itself. AuctionSpiel.com.
AuctionSpiel is an internet auction website where you can buy-sell-trade or swap items. The fees are lower than most and the site is easy to understand and use. We offer multiple payment gateways and allow sellers to choose what payment options they would like to use. (Payment Gateways are: PayPal, WorldPay, 2checkout.com, nochex, ikobo, protx, Authorize.net, moneybookers, paymate, google checkout, as well as opting to accept checks and money orders.)
We do not want to restrict sellers, rather we would like to empower sellers and help them increase their bottom line. The success of our company is entirely determined by our members success. If our sellers aren't happy we aren't happy.
AuctionSpiel has a lot of great features, including the ability to upload avi, mpeg video to your listings a feature most internet auctions sites are not capable of. The ability to upload video can dramatically increase your conversion rates by allowing users to see you detail out the item, show its capabilities, authenticity, flaws, etc. Increase conversion of potential buyers into sales and this is sure to help. Also we allow you to post videos from any site including You Tube, and our own Spiel Tube to help you sell your item, often times there are review of your item already on the internet that make it easy to add to your listing.
Another great feature is the ability of our members to suggest categories and other site specific features that we can look into and possible implement. So if you have an item or an idea that we simply do not have yet, let us know we will see what we can do implement it.
The ability and flexibility of our company is what really sets us apart, the idea that sellers should be able to have control over their auction business is our number one priority.
The future of AuctionSpiel looks bright, with the future features and additions to the network of sites that will allow sellers to manage their businesses more effectively and efficiently as well as support from our management and employees backing up each and every member.
Currently we are adding features that will allow members to: bid and buy items using SMS text messaging, import their feedback from 9 other auction sites, allow members to create password protected auctions, create seller vouchers for discounts on their listings, and so much more. A complete list of the features we are working on adding can be found here: http://www.auctionspiel.com/features.html
Fees http://www.auctionspiel.com/site_fees.php Now the sites fee schedule is simple and can prove profitable for any internet auction seller. We have set up the following fee schedule which will become effective on June 1st 2009:
Seller Verfication Fee $8.00 recurring every 30 days, this allows you to list unlimited items with no final value fees or insertion fees. User Sign up Fee $0.00 Auction Setup Fee $0.00 End of Auction Fee $0.00 Home Page Featured Fee $2.00 Category Featured Fee $1.00 Highlighted Item Fee $0.50 Bold Item Fee $0.50 Images Upload Fee $0.05 first 6 images are free Media Upload Fee $2.00 first two video uploads per listing are free Additional Category Fee $0.00 Custom Start Time Fee $0.00 Buy Out Fee $0.00 Reserve Price Fee $0.00 Make Offer Fee $0.00 Item Swap Fee $0.00 Re-listing Fee $0.00 unlimited re-listing Wanted Ad Setup Fee $0.50
The seller verification fee allows us to verify your identity, and allows us to better server our members. After the first 10k members join AuctionSpiel we will create a survey where members can give us their input on fees, policies, features, our management, and the company as a whole. Simply an attempt to keep our member happy.
Feedback on the site is wonderful because you can leave positive, negative, or neutral feedback for any member irregardless of their status. And there are no detailed service ratings. We believe that buyers should be just as accountable as sellers. Over the next few months the site will be seeing some major feature upgrades including allowing you to import your feedback from 9 other auction sites.
We also have store subscriptions that you can utilize to have all your items in centralized location for buyers on the site. This is separate from the SpielStores that I mentioned earlier.

Policies: Our policies are simple, and easy to understand. We have several policies in place that ban the sale of certain items applicable to federal law. As well as feedback policies to help prevent extortion and payment policies to help with combating fraudulent activities. Also as the site grows, members will be able to give their input into new policies and changes to current policies should they arise. Members will be notified of all the proposed changes, as well as a location they can go to give their input. All of our policies can be viewed at: http://support.auctionspiel.com/
Now for the exciting part, well at least in my opinion. Most people wonder why they should sign up to a site that has no members. Well its simple, in order for us to launch a successful marketing campaign and draw people to the site we need members already on the site when we launch. To achieve that goal we are giving out FREE LIFETIME MEMBERSHIPS to the first five thousand members. This will allow you to list unlimited items for the life of your membership and have free listing enhancements for the life of your membership after June 1st 2009 when our fee schedule kicks in.
Heres how it works: during the sign up process there is a box labeled voucher code, in that box enter the following: a8220786c583 this code will allow you to avoid the $8.00/month seller verification fee.
Then when you decide to sell an item and create a listing there is another box during the listing process labeled voucher code, you will enter this code: 9edabc7680b8 which will eliminate all fees associated with each listing. These codes are case sensitive. Our site is in beta mode and may have some issues however simply let us know and we will get it fixed. The only way for us to know is for everyones input.
So why not sign up list some items and help get the word out. Sign Up Today! Thanks to Boycott eBay for allowing us to help support the movement as well as allowing us to give this seminar, additionally we want to thank all of you for your time and we hope to see you on AuctionSpiel.com soon. : )

The ebay boycotters Internet Auction Alliance eBay Alternative Seminars have kicked off! If you have missed the seminars, you have missed some really exciting propositions. To attend future seminars, visit us at: http://forums.delphiforums.com/boycottebay/start But, in case you have missed anything, never fear, as we will bring you the Presentation, and post some of the questions and answers. SILKFAIR.COM Silkfair: I'll go over a few of the basics info which I think everyone and others might be interested in first. Please feel free to jump in with questions/comments any time. Silkfair.com was a project that was conceived in 2006 and launched in 2008, initiated from a separate manufacturing/wholesaling business that we seeked to change our business model.
To make a long story short, the business manufactured and distributed products thru retail chains in USA, and if any of you dealt with mass retailers, you would understand the stringent requirements and terms. Since the items sold are quite expensive, we carefully examined our risks on hand in the US market, and considered a direct-to-consumer model as a potentially viable alternative, which of course required us to greatly modify our logistics.
At the same time, during other venture discussions with other companies, we decided that potentially, other manufacturers could be facing the potential difficulty in starting up a direct model. That triggered other analysis and discussions, eventually evolved to the initiation of Silkfair.com, which targeted at helping small players to start up and grow e-commerce ventures. I understand this forum is a collective community of sellers that has difficulties with eBay, whether fortunately or unfortunately, eBay or eBay issues with sellers was not the catalyst to the formation of this Silkfair project. But since our launch in 2008, we were compared or labeled as an alternative. Since it might be easier to digest in that context, we accept that, but we anticipate that will change and formulate our own unique identity. Regardless of that, our principal service objective is simple - provide an easy and flexible ecommerce platform with low barrier of entry; to level the playing field for all. In fact, that guiding principal is a double-play of words integrated into our name Silkfair. This can only be achieved when each participant is fully empowered.
So, when you try Silkfair, you may find some things familiar, some things not so familiar. Since the beginning, we brought in design talent that worked on household branded products/sites in hopes that consumers can encounter a consistent mall-like feel.
We utilized development techniques to try to make startup and maintenance for sellers as simple as we can while masking complexities.
Even though this is the 3rd generation of development, we still consider the current production version rough, the core modules are considered stablized and we're continuing with the enhancement and experimentations. The teams in support of this project now comprises of marketing teams, support teams and development teams. Since launch, we actually pulled back on marketing as we listened to the feedbacks, and used the time to make changes.
We're now starting to modify the marketing efforts, as much of the system has been changed to better suit the needs from feedbacks we gethered. Since the features we offer are quite lengthy, I invite you to peruse thru the 2 tabs in this link http://www.silkfair.com/help/features when you have a chance. In short summary, here is a brief synopsis of some of the services : 1 - Fees - only on final sales - 3%. We will be implementing video fee based on bandwidth usage later on. No anticipated listing fees in Silkfair.com. 2 - Direct import from Ebay and Etsy supported; realtime eBay rating integration; more direct importing being developed 3 - Additions/Deletions/Updates of listings via CSV formatted file import/export supported 4 - for buyers - 1 page multi-vendor/multi-item shopping cart checkout PaAntiques - you might be interested in this : 5 - separation of specialty interests starting with Handmade goods, Vintage, Antiques, Collectibles, earth friendly green goods, mass produced vs one-of-a-kind and limited edition goods, etc... 6 - auto googlebase submissions. Custom googlebase submissions available. 7 - customizable meta-tags for shop and individual listings for search engines 8 - very simple in-line editing of listings. Just click on the area that's to be changed to modify and edit. Short video demo : http://www.silkfair.com/site/demo?v=Silkfair_InLineEdit1 We try to flatten the category tree. Each shop has own customizable category tree as well. management of shop category tree is very simple - drag and drop so, if you need to manipulate the order of the category / sub-category, you just drag and drop to sort 9 - payment option of PayPal and GoogleCheckout 10 - Full order processing with order history and communication; payment processing including authorize/capture/void/credit; inventory management 11 - flexible pricing templates, listing templating, shipping and tax templating. 12 - integrated shop blog and forum for each shop 13 - Adult-content filtering / opt-in viewing ; we welcome all legally tradable goods 14 - Double-blind feedback facility with detailed buyer/seller experience ratings and that encompass seller able to rate on the experience dealing with the buyer 15 - Filtering search mechanism; in-store search
Currently, the platform only handles fixed-price format, but we will be providing an auction format when the time is right. The system already has multi-currency support built in, but not yet enabled. Upcoming function under development are currency conversion and integrated shipping calculators (UPS, FedEx, USPS) also coupons and multi-item shipping discounts because our system can handle crediting/refunds, some sellers have been setting up refunds. Major function that we hope to release shortly (maybe a pre-release this month) is a custom shop option, which empowers you to have your own independent and fully customizable shop to be set up in a couple of minutes. What that means is, it's a quick and simple path that empowers you of your own destiny. For sellers who are familiar with html, you will have full access and control over the html/css, and the shop is fully your brand.
if you have played with blogger.com, it's pretty much like that except of course, blogs are easier to deal with in development compared to e-commerce Silkfair brand appears just on the bottom of the shop in small texts as "Powered by Silkfair". so, for experienced developers that's looking for max flexibility, full access to html/css is available. For novices, you can simply use our point and click user interface to make customizations. Each custom shop will be supported by your own domain such as http://www.my_own_shop.com. It is you controlling your business, your destiny. The option is open for testing, and provides 10 different usable templates to start with, and we welcome 3rd party developers and service providers to develop and/or sell templates or provide customization services. Longer term objectives, we aim and have started the development in further reaching out with Silkfair marketplaces. There has been some exciting discussions with other companies, and we're looking forward in beginning the steps toward that goal in structuring this new business model.
So, in conclusion, our targeting are of multiple angles : enhance the system to provide better visibility in search; provide the independent shops so that serious sellers can operate and promote; and lastly, build-up of the Silkfair marketplaces over the long haul, so that even the casual sellers can benefit.

Hello everyone.
I have received some sad information; information that serves as a reminder to each and every one of us. I received a message from some members who have had their myspace, youtube and email accounts hacked.
These attacks are not new. People have been "phished" for years now. The good news is that very few people, percentage wise, stil fall victim to these scams. The sad news is, there is even one person who falls for these scams. No matter how many warnings, no matter how much information is out there, no matter what is said and done to educate people, somehow, some still manage to miss or worse, ignore the warnings. PLEASE DO NOT!
What is sadder yet is, even for those of us who do everything right, I don't believe there is any way to be 100% guaranteed we wont get victimized. But, that does not mean we should give up, be careless, or stop trying.
One of the best ways to keep safe is to disable HTML in your emails. Since the HTML code is what allows various malicious code to hide. Something as simple as altering the real website name. For example, by using HTML, I can have a link say it is ebay, paypal, or even something like "click here", all the while the link itself can be imdestroyingyourlife.com (hopefully a fictious name i just made up). By simply disabling HTML this cannot happen.
Of course, not clicking on links inside emails is also a good idea. One stat I just read minutes before starting this stated that 75% of all "phishing" attacks come from fake ebay and PayPal sites. Since we are all ebay members and/or PayPal account holders, this leaves us all very vulnerable. So, how do we tell the real from the fake? Go to the email settings or options, turn on FULL HEADERS. This will show where the email is being returned to. I use Yahoo; and Yahoo and other webmail arent always too bright. They believe the "From" line, and therefore, we aren't able to block phishers. But, if you know that the return address is imgonnadestroyyourlife.com and not paypal.com you know its a fraud. Also, be aware that ebay and paypal, and hopefully other financial institutions will NEVER send an email to you saying your account may have been compromised, please click here and make sure. Certainly it will be now, if you do. Also, most phishers don't know your name. Some may have gathered that info, somehow. Ebay/PayPal do not send out emails "Dear PayPal member"; It uses your first and last name. AND, they do not ask for your password.
I received an email telling me my CitiBank account was compromised. Interesting, since I dont HAVE a CitiBank acct. And it's pretty obvious an attempt is being made to access my Ebay/PayPal account, when that email address is not even connected to those email addresses.
While there are more legit gift card offers, assume they are all fraudulent. Even the legit ones are not worth the aggrevation. At best, you will get a million new spam and IRL junk mail as a result. At worst, you have just given your myspace, facebook, email account and other account passwords, and personal information away to the worst type of people known to man. A year or so ago, a friend on my other myspace page supposedly sent me a comment with the Macy's $500 giftcard offer. Suspecting it was an attempt to get people's info, I clicked it, to discover it was a clickable link to rnyspace.com myspace.com is not the same as rnyspace.com Can you tell the difference? Try it this way: myspace.com Side by side, now on top. Did you catch it? Sneaky lil imps. While you believe you are on MYSPACE.com, the other is actually RNYSPACE.com r n together can look like an m. I suggest people go to cnet.com or zdnet.com and download spoofstick. That helps detect what site you are on.
There's no $100,000,000 waiting for you in some out of country bank. There is however, all your money, credit card numbers, and identity waiting for the sender, once you agree to give the person whatever dollar amount they are asking for. And do you think they're going to take only a couple hundred dollars from you? Nonononono NO! They have every intention of wiping you out of EVERYTHING you have. And more. If you send enough information, they will use your name to get credit cards, houses, phone numbers, and anything else they can.
FWDS. Some people just love to forward FWDs. Anything from innocent jokes, to harmful scams of viruses, to who knows what all else. For those of you who must send FWDs, PLEASE do the rest of us a favor: Dont. But, if you insist on doing it, PLEASE do not leave us vulnerable. At least have the courtesy to place our names in the BCC line. BCC is blind-carbon Copy. This will allow others who receive these mailings to not have access to our emails, and will help cut down on phishing attacks. By using the To: or the CC lines, you are making us sitting ducks to phishers. "But nobody on my list would do anything bad" Maybe not. But, can you guarantee that nobody on their list, or the list or further down will not? Just look at all the names from the original sender, down to the latest. Thanks, but, no thanks. So, please, help keep those of us who dont want to be harmed, a little safer. Oh, and new danergous viruses are not discovered in email. Esp. FWDs. If there's a bunch of these marks, >>>> you can be sure, even the most pathetic of Virus scanners have identified them. And their advice to remove a particular file from your computer, is not a good thing. If you are lucky, it will only completely disable your system, upon reboot. At worst, you are disabling security settings.
Pity emails. Dont be gullible. EVEN IF there really is a poor little girl who's daddy died in Katrina, and her brother's leg and arm were blown off in Iraq, and who's mother is dying of cancer, and who's aunt was victimized by 9-11, and and and and; chances are not good that you would be helping them. But, chances are great that you are being played.
Now here's the scarey part. You dont even have to be online to be a victim of identy theft. Actually, most incidents are not even from online users. People throw their private information away for everyone to get hold of it. For example, ever throw junk mail out? Did it have your name and address on it? Cross-cxut shredders help. Even better, thick black markers and then cross cut shredding works even better. Is your name listed in the phone book? As just an interesting thing to do, I entered my first and last name into the white pages directory, and discovered one man has the same first and last name and same middle initial as I do. Here's the information I received on him: Name, address, age, phone number, his sexual preference, and who his employer is, and that he is a manager there. Question is, why should all this information be given? Answer is, it shouldn't. What can be garnered from all this information? I have no clue what can be done with this info. I just know that i was able to find out more info on someone than I am sure they care to have people know. And, what's worse is, people who do know what to do with this info can and do. So, I suggest that we be careful with the information we give out, to whom, and how it will be used.
Please, be careful out there. Watch what your kids are doing online. Dont assume "they don't do that", because they very well may be doing "that" right now. Whatever "that" is. Make sure your firewall is secure; you have a good anti-virus program; a good spyware detector or two. Make sure you keep these up to date. And most importantly, becareful what you open in emails. EVEN from people you know. (I always thot it was stupid to worry about emails you get from people you dont know; as if people you do know dont have viruses?).

I have typed up a letter I believe to be as concise as possible, while at the same time, containing the vital information to launch an investigation into the actions on ebay's part. I recommend sending a copy to the following: 1. California Dept. of Weights & Measures. For the possibly unlawful pricings for powersellers vs. non-powersellers and the $1 vehicle sale, that resulted in a $20 fee-hike; not a $39 discount. 2. The California Attorney General's Office, for potential state civil claims. 3. News agencies, so they can investigate and uncover potential fraud. 4. Your home state Dept. of Weights & Measures. In that ebay is conducting business cross-state borders, they may be violating your state laws as well. 5. Your state Attorney General's Office, for the same reasons. 6. Your myspace bulletins and blogs and personal websites. (Please link back here) 7. International members, please send copies to those agencies which would best be suited to handle these complaints. Thank you all, Tim
To whom it concerns;
I would like to file an official complaint against eBay, Inc.
It seems to me they are crossing the line with some major new decisions they have made. Contrary to what eBay says, I am not unwilling to adapt to change. I am however, unwilling to adapt to change that at the very least borderlines criminal activity.
I ask, "Is it legal for a company that provides services to have different fees for the same services? " Here are some case-in-points I am referring to: 1. Buy.com (eBay user ID, Buy) has been granted the ability to negotiate not only listing and final value fees with eBay, because they sell (according to eBay) over $500,000 a month; but, they can negotiate eBay's new policies. 2. eBay is offering discounts to sellers who maintain a certain level of customer satisfaction, from the form of Detailed Seller Ratings (DSRs, hereafter). I contend these DSRs are arbitrary, and unfairly disadvantages sellers. This is done by the following: A. As an example of the arbitrary ratings system, sellers have been encouraged by eBay to offer free shipping to their clients. However, buyers can (and have reportedly) rated these same sellers a one, on a scale of one through five, one being worst. B. eBay is offering Powersellers ONLY, discounts on their Final Value Fees (FVFs hereafter) of 5% for those who maintain a DSR rating of 4.5-4.7, a 15% discount for those powersellers who maintain a 4.8 DSR rating, and as of June 19th or 20th, a discount of 20% to those powersellers who main 4.9 or 5.0. The contention here is, these discounts apply only to those sellers who qualify for powerseller status. Sellers like myself who may sell only a few items a year, and at little or no profit, are denied these discounts. C. Powersellers are granted certain immunities from eBay, should their customers file complaints against them. 3. EBay, parent company to PayPal, has decided they will hold monies from members, whom they consider risky. As of this year, they consider new members who have less than 100 feedback or have been with eBay less than six months as being risky. They also consider sellers who sell in a so-called risky category as risky, even though they themselves may have an exemplary record. The hold is 21 days. For longer than is legally allowable since 1986. While PayPal may claim they are not a bank, in the traditional sense, they act as a bank. They hold money, in the same manner as a bank, allowing withdrawals in similar fashions to online banks, including offering debit cards, as a banking institution would. Therefore, they should be held to the same standards. To make matters worse in this point, rather than actually dealing with real risky sellers, eBay pretends to be acting in the buyers' best interest. However, the obvious is true, they continue to allow real risky sellers to sell, while collecting their fees, and keeping buyers at risk. 4. Returning to Buy (Buy.com) eBay appears to be allowing Buy (and perhaps others) to manipulate the total number of listings. I believe this is an attempt to artificially inflate the overall number of listings, to convince potential investors all is well at eBay, when they are not. Consider these numbers: These numbers were taken from Terapeak and are based on a 90 day history (March 2, 2008- May 31, 2008. The most current info at the time of publishing): Seller: Buy Total Items Listed: 2,708,987 Total sales: $3,924,907 Successful listings: 64,638 Total Items Offered: 249,431,285 Sell through rate: 2.39% Average Sale: $44.43 MINIMUM listing fee, including dutch auctions: $24,943,128.5 (Based on the lowest fee of .10 per listing, and offering Media Mail. Does not include higher listing fees, or other promotional listing fees, or Final Value Fees, which would increase the fees dramatically). 5. This is perhaps the single most outrageous grievance yet. No less than twice this year, eBay has offered a "special" listing fee for ebaymotors.com This special reduced the listing fee from $40 for cars and trucks, to $1. While this sounds good, eBay has doubled, and in some cases more than doubled the "Special Transaction Fee" or, Final Value Fee. Regardless the name eBay chooses to use, it's a fee charged once a vehicle is sold. When the "special" is not taking place, the listing fee is $40, and the commission is $50, for a total of $90. However, with this so-called special, the listing fee is $1, and the commission is $109, for a total of $110, or a $20 increase. I contend this is not right, and must be investigated, and made right. If eBay chose to make the commission $89, making the final fee $90, their argument "Sellers prefer saving on the front end, and gladly pay the additional, if their vehicle sells" might be valid. The special would then be that they save upfront. But, eBay did not do this. They increased the overall cost, thereby, negating any "special". However, is it not the intent of a sale to lower costs temporarily? So, by offering a $1 special, should sellers not be charged $1 and then $50, for a total of $51?
I believe there are many other potential civil and criminal crimes eBay is potentially committing, however, I have taken up more time than I wished, and appreciate your taking the time to look into these matters. Should you require further information regarding these complaints, please contact me at:
