QUARTER GIVEN.
Let's get him off to a good start -- VOTE NOW!

Lounge and out on the Queen Mary's decks. See more below about Pyrate Daze.
Now, although we just had our 2nd 15th Anniversary celebration (an
anniversary can be celebrated the whole year, right? ... in fact,
Disneyland took 18 months to celebrate their 50th anniversary), November

was mailed out in Nov. 1993. Thanks to all of you who have supported us
and contributed to No Quarter Given. If you missed out on those early

SAD NEWS
********
For those of you who were fans of the No Quarter Given PyRats, we are
sad to report that Capt. Bartholomew Roberts (aka Bart) on Oct. 22 moved
on to Fiddler's Green, in a nice tavern heaven full of cheese and rum.
He is survived by his shipmate and brother, Capt. Henry Morgan (Hank).
[Aye ... we know he was just a rat, but he did touch a lot of hearts in
his brief 19 month life. That little guy had a lot of personality and
spirit.] You can view a lot of photos of him at the PyRat's MySpace:

PYRATE DAZE ON THE QUEEN MARY
*****************************
Over 1000 of you came to spend a weekend celebrating all facets of
pyracy. The British navy lads defended the Queen Mary from a pirate
invasion. Abney Park successfully invaded Saturday evening for the
Buccaneer Ball. Several other musicians serenaded during the weekend -
Rusty Cutlass, Rillian and the Doxie Chicks, Willoughby Caught, and
more. The Steampunk pirates invaded on Sunday. Huzzah to Mitch Toles for
organizing and hosting a great event. The Queen Mary was a great venue -
right on the water, with a great historic environment. The vendors area
with three levels and the open court in the middle was a great set up.
The music from the stage in the middle on the bottom level carried up to
the other levels with the great natural acoustics.

Current mood:Excited and Hopeful
From our spy at Disney:
"The
big Disney D23 event is going down in Anaheim, California this weekend,
and the news is flowing fast. The biggest announcement so far has to be
confirmation of a subtitle and a date for the fourth Pirates Of The
Caribbean outing. And it is? "On Stranger Tides". Yes, we know…

Jamaica Rose
speakin' again - I instantly thought of Tim Powers book "On Stranger
Tides" when I saw the Fountain of Youth on the map at the end of POTC4.
It's a great tie-in for the movie. If you haven't read the story
before, you might want to do so now. It involves a lot of voodoo magic, the search for the Fountain of Youth, Blackbeard, and the main character's name is JACK!
This is even more special for me because I used to run into Tim Powers occasionally when he worked at the tobacco shop at "The City
in Orange" (several years ago it was revamped as "The Block"). That was back in the
80s I guess before he hit it big as an author.
Well, it looks like I'll have to dig out my copy of "On Stranger Tides" and read it again.
Learn more about Tim Powers: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2341694/
And click on the news items there to get a slew of articles about this announcement (included below).
--Jamaica RoseSummary of ON STRANGER TIDES:
"Puppeteer John Chandagnac, bound for Jamaica to recover stolen money from his uncle,
becomes Jack Shandy after pirates attack his ship and force him to join their crew. Shandy's
struggle to accept his new life grounds the story for readers, even as Blackbeard and vodun
magicians whisk everyone away to dreamlike lands where the Fountain of Youth itself awaits. The
chaotic sea battles sing, though at times key events happen so quickly that they get lost in the
shuffle as Jack tries to comprehend where he's going and what's at stake. This dark fantasy tale
will appeal not just to pirate fans but also to anyone who appreciates Powers's talent for
blending the most unlikely elements into a brilliantly cohesive whole."PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 4 GETS A TITLE
Walt Disney Pictures has announced that the fourth movie in their
lucrative Johnny Depp franchise will be titled Pirates of the
Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and the studio is scheduling it for a
summer, 2011 release date. The details of the story aren't yet known,
but it is expected to focus more on the Jack Sparrow character, with
Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom not expected to return, in what is
expected to also start a second trilogy of movies. On Stranger Tides
will be directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha) from a
script by the writing team of Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, who also
wrote the first three movies. Title for Pirates of the Caribbean 4 hints at story
Disney has been giving previews of its upcoming releases at the company's D23 Expo in California. Among the activities at the Anaheim Convention Centre was the arrival of Johnny Depp in full Captain Jack Sparrow costume. Depp took to the stage to announce the title and release date of the fourth instalment in the Pirates franchise. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is its name, and we can expect to see it in summer 2011. The film was earlier said to be about Sparrow meeting up with Captain Hector Barbossa ( Geoffrey Rush) in the newly founded New Orleans and embarking on a quest for the Fountain of Youth. This appears to be true, as On Stranger Tides is the name of a 1988 Tim Powers'
seafaring novel in which a main character (also called Jack) travels
with pirates to an island to find that mythical wellspring. It seems

'Pirates 4' Gets a New Title, Looks Like an Adaptation
Disney is getting huge mileage out of its D23 Expo, which is making more
headlines than the Toronto Film Festival this week for some of its new marketing swag, the
announcement that it will partner with Guillermo del Toro on a new production house, and now, the
first full details about Pirates of the Caribbean 4. As you can see, it already has a title
- On Stranger Tides - which I actually really dig, and we know that Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush will be back aboard the Black Pearl.
The title hints at what Disney has maintained for quite a while, that a fourth film would be a
little smaller and a little less down the middle than a Disney summer movie would indicate. Of
course, the third one was pretty bizarre, as well, but there was no chance that would fail, so it
was loaded with all kinds

Title Revealed For Pirates of the Caribbean 4
We recently found out the supposed plot for the fourth
installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, which, according
to Hollywood Elsewhere, would feature Captain Jack Sparrow ( Johnny Depp)
and Co. searching for the infamous Fountain of Youth. It’s not been
officially announced but it seems plausible, and at this point we have
no reason to think that it’s false. So with that “semi-confirmed”
plot (whatever that means) in mind, you could be forgiven for assuming
Pirates 4 would be titled something akin to, “Pirates of the Caribbean:
The Search For the Fountain of Youth” or simply “Pirates of the
Caribbean: The Fountain of Youth.”
But no, at the D23 Disney Fan Expo, a logo/banner for the fourth
Pirates movie was unveiled and it revealed the name and the release
date: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has a (general)
release date of Summer 2011.

Big Disney Updates: Muppets, Pirates, & Guillermo, Oh My!
More and more news just keeps flooding from the D23 Expo and
thankfully they sent us press releases, so we don't have to physically
be there to hear about a few big announcements. I'll be honest and say
that I'm not absolutely enthralled with all three of the following
announcements, but two out of three isn't bad. So first let's jump
right into the one that I'm not entirely psyched about, but I'm sure
that plenty of other people are. Johnny Depp
was on hand as Captain Jack to tell everyone about the title of Pirates
of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth installment of the
series to be released summer 2011.
Though plot details are scarce at this time, the crew at Cinematical
might have an interesting lead on the story. It seems there exists a a
novel by Tim Powers, that just happens to be about pirates, and

Fourth Pirates of Caribbean Gets a Title
Disney's D23 Expo is currently underway in Anaheim, California and
the studio’s Chairman Dick Cook officially revealed the next Pirates
movie will be titled Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
Johnny Depp, who
appeared in full pirate costume during the announcement, is signed on
to reprise his role of Jack Sparrow. No other plot details have been
release, but the subtitle has already led to speculation. Rumors
suggest the new film may be based on Tim Powers'
On Stranger Tides novel. The novel won the Locus Award for Best Fantasy
Novel in 1988, and was nominated for the World Fantasy Award the same
year.
In the book, Puppeteer John Chandagnac, who was sailing to Jamaica to
get revenge on the uncle who had stolen his father's inheritance, has
no choice but to join the buccaneers who have taken him prisoner--and
soon, known now as the pirate Jack Shandy,

Is This The New 'Pirates of the Caribbean' Plot?
So about that Disney announcement -- well, the one about Pirates of
the Caribbean and its new title (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger
Tides) and release date (summer 2011). It just so happens that there is
also a novel called On Stranger Tides about pirates by one Tim Powers
(which we briefly mentioned in our other post). The plot is striking in
that the main character is also named (or renamed) Jack, and the plot
revolves around him finding the Fountain of Youth, which is not only a
recurring theme in the Pirates movies but was the rumored title of the
fourth installment. Here's the plot summary from Amazon via Publishers Weekly: World

precise control of complex narratives in this reprint of his rollicking

Disney Announces 'Pirates of the Caribbean 4' Date, Title!
At Disney's D23 they kept the movie surprises coming for nearly two
hours, announcing a slew of new information about their upcoming slate
of films for the next couple of years, and they trotted out John Travolta, Robert Zemeckis, Jerry Bruckheimer, Nic Cage, Miley Cyrus, and ... Johnny Depp
in full costume as Captain Jack Sparrow. Yes, we're not kidding, and
boy do I hate the "no cameras in the arena" rule that Disney busted on
us. Of all the things to miss a photo of. So yes, Pirates 4 is coming out in Summer 2011. That's probably the biggest news. What else did they announce? Check it out below ...
Disney's The Princess and The Frog
will be screened at the Disney Studio in Burbank, which is being opened
to the public for the first time ever, from November 25th through
December 13th. The new Muppets movie will be called The Cheapest Muppet
Movie Ever Made.

Derogatory
messages are shown to come from IP Address of Pyrate Con
We understand that several of you may have received a
message yesterday from “Buccaneers of Tortuga.com”. It was signed by “Pirate

Just in case there was any question about who this message
was TRULY from, we checked with other messages we got and saved in the past. We double-checked the IP address of the yesterday’s message
header and compared it with earlier messages we received.
We received announcement messages from Pyrate Con 2009

The earliest we have saved is from February 7, 2009 (before
the 2009 event in New Orleans)
We have received messages from

IP - [212.227.126.172]
was received Sept. 7, 2009
You will note that although these messages seem to come from
three different email addresses (using different domains), they ALL have the
exact same IP address which means they all came from the same source.
Yesterday’s message was NOT from the group Buccaneers of
Tortuga (started by Armand Bordeaux deLagarde, Piranha, Jules Evermore, Stormy Seas,
and others).
The logo used in yesterday’s message is being used WITHOUT
permission of the original artist. That
logo (without the one eye colored red) was created by Michael Perry for use by
the group Buccaneers of Tortuga (Armand, Piranha, Stormy, etc).

Original Buccaneers of Tortuga Logo designed by Michael Perry
Banner created by the original Buccaneers of Tortuga group (note similarities with banner used in the message below - only the one below has a website added, and the logo has one eye a different color).
Shayna of Dress Like a Pirate has received and publicly
posted similar messages in the past from this same source. Otherwise, we would not publicly post such a
derogatory message.
It’s a shame some people have nothing better to do than to
attack people and cause trouble. Makes
you wonder what other recent controversies might have been caused by this same
individual using other names and email aliases.

Greetings all
It has been called to our attention that we have received several complaints
that Shayna Vest owner of Dress like a Pirate merchandise is substandard and
that her clothing line ( which is NOT her line its a company in the far east,
we too deal and buy merchandise from this source just they put our labels/tags
like its our brand !)is " a one time use" at top dollar.one of the
major complaints are that her line bleeds in the washer !! anther complaint is
that she will ship something totally different then what is ordered to bank the
money rather then refund.
We have never done business with her nor do we ever plan to, her practice of
business is very unprofessional at best.our line is made here in USA and backed
by a full warranty, because of the mass demands for our line , we cant keep up
with the high demand there for we have partnered up with another company that
we highly recommend and they are called "To Be a Pirate" (
www.tobeapirate.com) they have been in business longer then Dress Like Pirate
and they backed their product 100% and compare their line with Shayna Vest Dress
like a pirate. If you had a problem with her line and she refuses to resolve
please contact the Better Business Bureau. ( BBB) in Portland,Or where her
business is located she is a one person shop out of her home THERE ISNT A

Current mood:Call for HELP!

To those who care about our friends Mallory and McCall and want to help:
A
lot of you came to one or more of the benefit concerts held earlier
this year in Southern California to help Mallory and Jan. A lot of you donated in many ways.
Mallory and Jan were overwhelmed and very surprized by how many of you cared and wanted to help! They didn't realize they had so many friends.
Your efforts kept the wolf at bay for a while, but now he is here, and
it looks like the foreclosure is going to happen.
Help is needed
in many ways. Help finding a new living place, help finding a
"clunker", help packing and moving. They live just west of downtown Los Angeles. If anyone wants to help, contact
Jan at: malloryandmccal..l@yahoo.com AND Lynn Snead of Moonstruck at: moonstruck...originals@..verizon.net
You can also join the Yahoo group of "Friends of Mallory and McCall" at: Friends_of_MMc-subscribe@yahoogroups.com The
need is dire. Read the message below from Jan to get the details.
Mallory is just recently returned from a second visit to the hospital.
He can do nothing to help. Jan is not doing too well herself, stressed
out over worry and caring for Mallory.
Unfortunately, Michael
and I can not lend much of a hand until after Sept. 15. That is the deadline
for our book project. We are under contract, and must get it in by
then, and we need every minute until then.
I'm hoping some of you can help.

Sorry
about another group mailing. Some of you may get more than one and
others who should will not get this at all. But it is the best way I
know to get the word out, so bear with me.
Hi Friends, Well,
we have cried wolf and now he is clawing and drooling at our door.
Unless a miracle happens, we have to be out of our house by
mid-September. That's two weeks! We were pretty sure we had a few
months reprieve but we were informed today that our house is being
auctioned off on September 8. Wachovia says this is final. Our biggest
concern, besides our own personal problems with this, is that many old
houses are being bought up cheap, the interiors trashed (ours is
beautiful, with wood columns, stained glass and the like) and divided
up into multi-units. We bought our house in 1980 with the hope of
saving it from such mutilation. How sad. As for us, well we are
not anywhere near ready. We were pretty sure that the house would be
sold to a neighbor on what is called a "short sale," which would give
us more time. Now, we don't even have a place to live! Almost nothing
is packed and ready (nearly 30 years and more of collecting costumes,
props, antiques and the like are far from sorted and packed). Mallory
cannot help (more about that later) and it's all on me (Jan) as I'm the
one who has to decide what to trash and what to keep. The light at the
end of this tunnel is that we have a 40 ft. container on Lynnie and
Steve of Moonstruck's property waiting for the stuff that can manage
the heat. The down side is that unless we can find some able-bodied
volunteers, we will have to hire people to load and unload a lot of
heavy stuff, including some pianos! As for the things like our harps,
several of which we'd intended to sell, well, they have to find a place
to be that is not too hot (very bad for instruments) until we can
arrange sales. Many good people tried very hard to save our house and
we so appreciate it. The sad thing is that the banks don't give a hoot
that we are disabled and were swindled out of the money that they
loaned us before we even saw it. What a world! We just got home
from a week in the hospital--a re-run of the month spent in Cedars
early summer. I say "we" as I have lived on a cot in the Captain's
spartan quarters all that time. Here's the Reader's Digest version of
the story: Apparently Mallory caught an infection (E. Coli) after his
operation July 4th. For those of you who don't know, he, in a matter of
a couple of days, found he couldn't walk. The doctors decided to do the
big operation on his back even though it was supposed to wait six more
months so his bones could get stronger. But since there was pressure on
a nerve in his back causing the numb legs, and the surgeon had to go in
anyway, he put metal all the way up his spine. He is slowly relearning
to walk, but he stands tall for the first time since the day the photo
was taken for the "Kings of the Sea" CD. So Mallory & McCall are on
our way back. The Skeleton Crew Pirate Band will live again! Needless
to say if you know of any senior or disabled housing, or even a
reasonable apartment (funky is fine), we need to hear about it. We also
need a cheap automatic transmission car that runs well and stops when
asked--it can look terrible, but it needs the basics to get us around
town. We don't care how it looks, but Mallory needs to get his wheel
chair in the back. Again, many thanks to all for your help in
the past. Without you, we would not have come this far! And if the wolf
at our door is a werewolf, well, that's an old friend! We know how to
deal with him! Cheers and Good Wishes, Jan (Mac the Wife) Visit us at www...MalloryandMcCal..l.com and don't miss our exotic and unusual neckpieces at www...MalloryandMcCal..l...com/..PiratePrimitive...html

Current mood:rather disappointed
Category: Parties and Nightlife
POST-MORTEM:
This event has promise. It was
on a nice green grassy area, right next to the water. A very pretty
location. The overall idea of Renfaire by Day, and Fantasy Faire by
night is rather unique, and should be explored more.
The booths close to the shore of the lake had a beautiful view.
The joust was GREAT. It was exciting, and well-presented. The announcer had a loud clear voice, and drew in the crowds by making it sound so thrilling.
At night, the fairies came out to play. There was a GLOW parade. An interesting idea that should develop more.
Unfortunately, many of the vendors were not prepared with lights to stay lit up at night. It's a shame, for it would have looked very pretty and fairy-like with a lot of twinkle lights around the lake shore. Since most vendors were closed, those that stayed open at night spread out, far apart, and didn't get much business.
The evening's musical entertainment was a modern sounding blues band.
With all the local renfaire and pirate musical talent available, it's a
shame they didn't book one of them.
The event needed MORE people. We think they could have easily gotten a lot more if there was better signage and directions.
Many people told us they got lost trying to find the event location. Several ended up at
Irvine PARK (which has a lake), instead of Irvine LAKE. Both places
are off of Santiago Canyon Road. If people didn't get fooled by the Irvine Park signs, and kept driving, they would eventually see Irvine Lake (it's hard to miss). But finding the entrance is another thing. There was only a very SMALL sign at the turn
off to Irvine Lake, hard to spot. The entrance at Irvine Lake is on a
curvy canyon road - so drivers can't take their eyes off the road much to
try to read a tiny sign. The sign board was huge, and a much larger sign
could easily have been posted. Then, once people turned into Irvine
Lake, they were still getting lost, because there was no sign for the
right parking lot.
The driving directions on the website were
lacking. They get you onto Santiago Canyon Road (the road Irvine Lake
is on), but don't tell you how many miles to the entrance, or which
side of the road it's on, or give any landmarks to look for. Or don't warn you there is a park with a similar name on the way.
There is a lot of weekend traffic on Santiago Canyon Road. If there had been a large butcher paper sign, hand-painted with "RENFAIRE HERE" on it, they could have drawn in a lot more walk-ins to the event. (We know a professional sign is expensive, but a sign like any cheer-leader squad paints to cheer on the basketball team, would have been very cheap, and would have helped a lot).
We hope to see this event next summer, but we also hope the organizers will learn from their first time experience, and make this a much more memorable, fun, and better-attended event.

I've heard a lot about this new documentary film "The Cove", about a travesty against dolphins.
It was featured in Film Week yesterday (KPPC fm radio, Pasadena): http://www.scpr.org/programs/filmweek/
Today there was a segment on Weekend All Things Considered (NPR): http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=111377218
And also this story below from the LA TIMES.
The next dolphin slaughter will take place again in September. Maybe if there is enough outcry and protest from the rest of the world, the Japanese will do something to stop it. There is a page about "What You Can Do" on the official movie website: http://www.thecovemovie.com/ They tell you where to send letters, and what else you can do.

From the Los Angeles Times
MOVIES
'The Cove' was covert, dangerous filmmaking
To shine a light on the mass slaughter of dolphins in Japan, filmmakers risked arrest -- and potentially worse.
By Rachel Abramowitz >>>
August 1, 2009
How does one expose the secret systematic slaughter of 23,000 dolphins?
It helps to have a billionaire, plus a dedicated activist, a neophyte
filmmaker, two of the world's best free-divers, a former avionics
specialist from the Canadian Air Force, a logistics whiz trained in
transporting pop-music stars around the world, a maritime technician, a
military infrared camera for night cinematography, unmanned aerial
drones, a blimp and fake rocks specially designed by George Lucas'
Industrial Light & Magic to hold secret cameras.
Also required? A willingness to risk arrest, police harassment and potentially much worse.
That was the "Ocean's Eleven"-style team assembled to make this year's
Sundance sensation "The Cove," the unconventional true-life
environmental thriller that brings to light the mass killings of
dolphins, specifically those exterminated in the Japanese port village
of Taiji, just south of Osaka. The footage in the film, which opened in
L.A. theaters Friday, is shocking -- a tranquilly beautiful Japanese
bay turned red with the blood of dolphins, as well as graphic images of
fishermen spearing the gentle, highly intelligent sea mammals.
Unlike their larger cetacean brethren whales, dolphins are not
protected by the worldwide ban on commercial whaling that has been in
effect since the 1980s. Taiji, a bucolic town filled with boats bearing
the images of happy dolphins, is, as shown in the film, essentially a
dolphin bazaar for marine theme parks hunting for their next
attraction, and they are willing to pay $150,000 per dolphin.
Unselected dolphins are herded into a heavily protected secret cove
where they're slaughtered for food, never mind the fact that, as the
film makes clear, dolphin meat is chock-full of mercury -- or as one
on-screen scientist states: The creatures are essentially swimming
toxic waste dumps.
The $2.5-million film, three years in the making, was born of the
friendship between National Geographic photographer Louie Psihoyos and
Netscape founder Jim Clark, old dive buddies who spent the last 10
years traveling the world searching for the best reefs, which they soon
realized were dramatically deteriorating each time they returned.
Psihoyos recalls being in the Galapagos Islands and watching "long-line
fisherman fishing in a marine sanctuary" and seeing "bombed out reefs
in Indonesia." In response to the devastation, Clark launched the
nonprofit environmental group the Oceanic Preservation Society, and
Psihoyos began working on what initially was going to be four TV
documentaries about the endangered oceans and their species.
Psihoyos started attending mammal conferences and stumbled upon the
hero of his documentary, Ric O'Barry, in 2005. The 68-year old O'Barry,
an endearing and obsessed activist, was the original trainer of the
five dolphins who played "Flipper" on TV and blames himself for the
worldwide popularity of commercial sea parks with their live dolphin
acts, a practice he now decries. "A lot of the dolphins in the third
world are in people's swimming pools. It's a copycat syndrome," says
O'Barry, now a marine mammal specialist for the Earth Island Institute,
and leader of the Save Japan Dolphins coalition. "People go to Sea
World, and say, 'Wow I can do that.' There're dolphins all over the
Caribbean, and Mexico -- the whole area is like a dolphin theme park
with deplorable conditions. When I see them there, I feel directly
responsible. I know the TV series helped to contribute to this mess.
There are $2 billion in profits that come from the captive dolphins."
Filmmaking 101
At the time, O'Barry was on his way to Taiji, where he's been going
several times a year in an effort to stop the slaughter, often with
journalists in tow, and he invited Psihoyos to join him. Seeing the
filmic potential in the trip, Psihoyos signed on, although the
acclaimed photographer first decided to take a three-day filmmaking
course.
"We're all professionals, just not at this," says Psihoyos, with a
laugh. "I don't know if this movie could have been made by a
professional crew. A professional crew would have turned around and
ran. A producer would say 'This is nuts. How long is it going to take?
How much is it going to cost?' There were just too many unknowns. The
risk of getting hurt or jailed was daily. It didn't take filmmakers to
make this film. It took pirates."
Indeed, the film depicts two commando missions into the cove, which is
surrounded by razor-wire fences and policed by vigilant fisherman,
desperate to keep their business out of the spotlight. There were
actually 14 cloak-and-dagger operations into the protected cove to
accumulate enough footage, and a dedicated runner who every day
personally and craftily spirited the film out of town. "The reality was
a lot scarier than the film shows," Psihoyos says. "We got ran out of
town by the police twice." These days, when O'Barry makes his still
frequent pilgrimages to Taiji, he always goes in full-blown disguise.
Clark brought in another diver buddy, actor-filmmaker Fisher Stevens
("Short Circuit"), to produce and comb through the nearly 600 hours of
film. Stevens in turn brought in other professionals, including editor
Geoffrey Richman ("Murderball" and "Sicko") and writer Mark Monroe.
Stevens insisted that Psihoyos actually become the on-screen narrator
of the story, providing a charismatic and handsome figure through which
to tell the story. "He didn't want to do it at first," recalls Stevens,
who eventually convinced him. "The idea was this is not a just a
documentary -- it's more like a thriller."
Psihoyos says that many of his stories for National Geographic had "an
activist bent," but he also had maintained the belief that "a
journalist is supposed to be a fly on the wall, he's not supposed to be
part of the story. Still I realized if nobody gets active, then nothing
would get resolved. I felt it was time to stand up."
Psihoyos and O'Barry hope the film will generate awareness and help
bring change to the situation in Taiji. As a country, Japan has also
opposed extending the international whaling ban to dolphins. Speaking
before the film's commercial release, O'Barry noted, "[The Japanese]
don't know this tsunami of bad publicity is coming their way. In Japan,
they call it 'giatsu,' which translates into external pressure. . .
.[This] movie is giatsu on a massive scale."
