The Reet Hot Chili Peppers are looking for a new Frusciante !! Unfortunately The Reet Hot Chili Peppers are losing Jonny, our guitarist, at the turn of the year as he looks to start his own covers band. Being the star that he is Jon has agreed to stay on til the turn of the year so that we can find a replacement. We are looking for someone to step into a up and running Red hot Chili Peppers tribute with plenty of choice gigs in the diary both local and further afield. So if you can play the guitar like Frusciante, sing the harmonies that Frusicante does, are up for a laugh, dont mind doing 1-2 gigs per month out of the area - then get in touch for a knock through and we can take it from there. Reet Hot Chilli Peppers @ The Station, Killingworth 06-Feb-09

Wow, what can I say, fantastic, unbelievable, remarkable, astonishing? All words that could be used to describe tonights performance by our very own Reet Hot Chilli Peppers.

A set list which covered most of the Chillis career whilst avoiding the obscure, was expertly presented by four guys who obviously are devoted to their art.

Special mention for Mark L, depping for a certain Mr K. Bucket, who pulled off Mr Balzary's basslines with such calm aplomb that said Mr Bucket may wish to extend his winter holiday by a further nine months or so (ooh er controversial or what eh).

Adas on the drums had perhaps the hardest act to follow, given the monumental range and rhythm of the original RHCP's Mr Smith's drum performance, but pulled it off with alarming ease. Who knows what noise this particular gentleman could be responsible for, given one or two more drums ;D

Jonny on guitar thrashed that poor sunburst strat to an inch of its extinction and displayed an alarming mastery of Mr Frusciante's work to the point where one wonders if he shouldn't get out a little more......

And as to the vocalist 'Mark' aka Anthony Kiedis, I can only echo what Junie from Flathill Promotions said in her review of the Reet Hot's Darlo gig and say that I too "heard ' Anthony Kiedis' sing in tune for the first time last night"

What an awesome night. Guinness at £2.70 a pint, RHCP's greatest hits played live by an awesome set of musicians and to cap it all, Mrs JPJ enjoyed it to, commenting on how nice it was to hear something different from the usual pub band fare.

All I can say is catch these guy's sometime soon, you won't be disappointed.

REVIEW BY JUNE FROM FLATHILL PROMOTIONS

I have seen the ' REAL' RHCP 3 times, and have never come away from 1 of their gigs buzzing like I am from seeing this totally amazing tribute to them.
It's the first time I have seen The Reet Hots so I didn't know what to expect, but I was totally blown away by the musiciansmanship and awesome stage presence from these 4 luverly lads, They pulled it off to a tee.

We had a fantastic crowd who were loving every minute of it, and were shouting their name and stamping their feet to bring them back on stage for 2 encores.

So its an 11/10 from yours truly - A perfect night, a perfect crowd and a totally awesome band, who helped me a lot with the promo for this gig, I appreciate that so much guy's thank you, what promoter could ask for more eh 8-)

PS:
Don't tell them as I wouldn't want their heads to swell but I would rather see THEM than the 'real' RHCP again anyday and I heard ' Anthony Kiedis' sing in tune for the first time last night too, great stuff
;)

REVIEWED BY DAVE LUNN (EVENT ORGANISER)

The weather had actually improved...it was a lush day.
The food van had surpassed itself.
I found a cool tee shirt for Lynne at Dingas army surpls store...for £4 ;D

I predicted Sunday would be better than the Saturday and I was correct....

First band on were The Unnamed.

heres' a band that's gone from 'canny bunch of kids' to a real 'grown up' band in a short time.

They are Jess on vocals, Mick on bass, Ruth on guitar and Eve on Drums....

[image] [image] [image] [image] [image]

Sounding great with Steve's big rig, they opened up with 'Holy Diver' by Dio...ambitious??? They did it though and it shwoed just how much they've come on of late.

[image] [image] [image]

The set continued with a mix of rock classics including 'Paranoid' 'Can't Get Enough' and 'L'il devil'.....
[image] [image]

We'd managed to drag the smokers in from outside and it wasn't a bad size crowd for the first band of the day. There were a fair few 'Crookites' in that follow 'The Unnamed'.

They've 'grown up' as a band and it's instantly noticeable. They should be getting gigs all over soon.

Victims of the Fury are another of local lad Tom Atkinson's bands...but this one is 'his' outfit.

[image] [image] [image]

Tom is joined by his Tubesnake colleague Chris on bass and the 3 piece are very tight . This band give Tom the chance to show his singing and lead guitar abilities.

[image] [image]

The songs include the SAHB classic 'Faith Healer' and all the stuff is in that vein...which is Tom's cuppa tea, cos he's always been a massive fan of SAHB.

[image] [image]

Again, a Crook following were in and the crowd was growing rapidly!

By now the club was nicely packed out...an a band I'd never seen before arrived called 'The Zombie Headhunters'.

I checked 'em out on their Myspace page and could not wait.
They could well be my new favourite band.... ;D

[image] [image] [image] [image] [image]

They do their own stuff. It's punk, it's fast and it's f*cking lush man!!! That's the only way to describe it....and energy????OMG!

[image] [image]

They all look dead cool and the singer...I didn't catch her name, but she's 22, tiny and dead pretty...but bugga me when she get's up there she's mesmerising!!!

[image] [image] [image]

She roars and screams...she's back and forward and giving it 110%. Then she laughs at how knackered she makes herself...fabulous fun man.

But it's not a one woman band

the rest of The Zombioe Headhunters are grat to watch and hear...

The image is spot on...not enough people use semi acoustics man..

[image] [image]

Their image is so cool...

[image] [image] [image]

The ZH's were the surprise package and the band that everyone's talking about today...deservedly so.

[image] [image] [image]

But this little rock chick will be talked about for all the right reasons from now on with a bit of luck...

[image] [image] [image]

With that performance only one band could follow them...The Toxic Pixies....who were, by Laura's admission, inspired and wound up by The Headhunters.

[image] [image]

The band had practiced at a recording studio yesterday watched by members of 'Venom' and the former bassist from 'Hawkwind', who loaned Skud his BC Rich bass.

Jake, who'd provided the kit for the weekend was on top form...

[image] [image]

Josh and Jamie sounded massive through the two half Marshall stacks...

[image] [image] [image]

The band had just released a 10 track CD , that we managed to produce in 24hours, especially for the event and it was selling fast.

They powered through the set, having gone on early so they could do a couple more, playing rock clasics from the Foo Fighter and Queen, Punk anthems by the Pistols, The Ramones and The Skids (The Saint's are Coming). This is a very technical that they do to perfection.

[image] [image] [image]

Laura was extra bouncy and cheeky to her dad..and she is grounded hahaha

[image] [image] [image]

By the time they'd finished, respected musicians like Kev Charlton were blown away my the maturity of their show...

[image] [image] [image] [image]

And so to the break. This time, the crowd were staying for the duration....

And so on to the second half of day 2 and a scratch band...

With it being Steve's 40th and his favourite song being 'Zombie' by The Cranberries, I got asked if I could play it acoustically for Carl's las Karen to sing for Steve....she'd done it at the last buskers and he'd been amazed.

'Acoustic' said I 'with all these musicians in the room...we'll do it full on'.

So there was Karen on vocals, me on guitar, Carl on drums and Kevbucket on bass....it was lush.

[image] [image] [image] [image]
Then came the raffle which went very smoothly.

Heather was presented with a huge bouqet of flowers we'd chipped in for and Alan, her hubby a bottle of booze...

It was the first time that weekend that she let a tear fall.

We were running spot on and next up 'The Reet Hot Chilli Peppers'.

[image] [image] [image] [image] [image] [image]

Saw the lads last week and they were well on form again.
They treated us to a gratest hits medley of RHCP songs...

Johnny on guitar world his way through the various styles of the several Peppers guitarists there have been with ease...
Adas at the back look so lush when he took his shirt off I idn't even realise he was in the band hahahaha...seriously, Adas is a class drummer and the 'Geet Snot Smelly Poopers' show this off well...

[image] [image]

Boundy on vox manages to talk during a song more than Lindy talks when she ...well ..talks, and that's canny fast hahahaha...
he has the rapping bit off to a tee.

Kev , the legend that is the Bucketmeister, is probably the only bassist I know that can do 'Flea's playing and jumping. The guy is well above average on the 4 string. :o

[image] [image]

The Cheeky Pappers rock....and for the ladies and warped..here's another pic of Adas...naked...

[image] [image]

Laura and Jake bopped away to 'Give it away now'....

It was packed and it was all going to plan. But the best was yet to come.

Saturday had been a 'lad' day, but we'd had a plethora (great word) of North East Rock Chicks. Was Caroline's crown safe as the 'top North East Rock Chick'?

So on came The Creepers...

The Creepers were the first (with Highest Ground) to offer to play.

Mick, Caroline, Jon and Sean are superb. They play punk and roll by people like Johnny Thunders and The Rezillos...

[image] [image] [image] [image]

I had introduced them and said 'I don't care if you don't know the songs, you'll like them straight away'...I was right judging by the crowd reaction...

[image] [image]

Caroline rocked it up as if she was totally not giving a cack about these young upstarts after her crown...I love it when she screams...I think I'll throw live mice at her at gigs just to see if she squeals hahaha...

[image] [image] [image] [image] [image]

If I ever have a plan to take over the world The Creepers will be in on it...I like 'em that much.

So dis she kep her crown??? Course she did.... ;D

I was outside talking to a few people, including one of the club comittee. He brought up an interesting point, that had crosed my mind..the club had been pretty full all week and I recognised people from Bishop, Stanhope, Spennymoor, Ayecliffe...there was also a load of bikers paying respect to Justin....but there was hardly anyone in from Crook itself.

It transpired that one bloke had been on the phone complaining about paying a fiver to see 7 bands and give to charity and he was gutted that the band , scheduled to play that date had been rearranged 6 months ago...cos he'd have got in for nowt.

Hmmmm...I seem to remember being tipped off a while ago that there were plans to sabotage this event based on the fact that people who I've crossed swords with in Crook (I'm about as popular as herpes down there) thought it was solely my do.

I feel that one or two have called for a boycott by locals because of this...well it didn't work...we won hehehee.

Anyway, up came Knee Jerk Reaction.
Gotta say this was the best I've seen the boys...

[image] [image]

Ed and the boys have a new drummer on board and he is very good keeping everything so tight.

[image] [image]

They play some good, well known covers and Ed told me they'd picked he set deliberately to create a party atmosphere.

[image] [image]

Once they had successfully created a great party climate, it was time for the high point of the whole weekend.

Westopped play and , having sneaked around all weekend getting as many band members signatires as I could, Heather was presented with a framed poster...signed by us all.

[image] [image]

She then made an emotional speech, thanking everyone and talking about her son.

People shouted support...then she took to the stage with Knee Jerk reaction and sang for Justin.

[image] [image]

She did a cracking version of 'Sweet Child Of Mine' with KJR...

Everyone sang the chorus'.

[image] [image] [image] [image]

KJR finished with Rebel Yell...Rick got up to bop with Heather.

Then Alan got dragged up....

And they all took a bow with the crowd cheering on.

It had been an emotional 10 minutes or so, which saw heather shed tears as she took her poster and thank people and then rock like a trooper, with a smile on her face.

Lot's of people shed tears as well, men and women....I couldn't , because when she smiled , singing with KJR I didn't feel sad. I was chuffed that, our efforts, all of us, had helped put that smile there....and that's why we do it. PLus I'm rock hard... 8-)

The super patient Dirty South Boys (+1) took to the stage.
Out of the whole weekend we were finally 10 minutes overdue.
So on they went.

[image] [image] [image]

They were, as usual, fun and entertaining playing their southern style deep south rock...

[image] [image] [image]

It was nice and tight and sounded big through Steve's big PA.

[image] [image] [image]

Plenty stayed to bop, specially the crew who finally locked the gates up and came to see aband...hooray...

[image] [image] [image] [image]

They clawed their 10 minutes back with 'Sweet Home Alabama', so all in all it had ran 100% to plan ....

So that was it.

Justin Adam Airey would have been 21 on November 5th 2008.
This was his party. We gave him his own ralley and gave his birthday money, all £3000 and still counting to his favourite Charity 'The Great North air Ambulance'.

His family were awesome throughout. It was a pleasure for everyone who played and attended to be involved.

The club and staff were marvellous, helped by the fact that the crew, including Lindy, Andy, Tank and others kept peace and tranquility and the place immaculate. I don't think the club knew what to expect but loved every minute of it.

Justin's friends still wear their hearts on their sleeves for him...Rick, Harry and many more.

Some of us never got to meet the lad but now his freinds are our friends...me and Rick the Punk, who'd have thought it hahahahaha...if you could bottle that lad up he would cure unhappiness everywhere...

And to all the bands who gave up their time for free...young, old, boys and girls...wasn't it worth it man.

Now for next year....I have an idea ;) ;) :o ::)

I'd been promising to see the North East's tribute to RHCP for ages , so when I found out they were gigging on a night I wasn't I headed over.

[image] [image]

The Reet's are Adas on the drums, Johnny on guitar, Boundy on the vox and Kev 'Bucket' Charlton on bass.

[image] [image]

What you get is one long set of all The Chili Peppers classics , including Higher Ground, Dani California, Give It Away, Californication, Scar Tissue etc etc.

[image] [image]

And it's all played to a great standard.

Adas at the back is now only in 97 bands including The Rawmones and Roots Radicals, yet he manages to fit all these in around his 'catalogue modelling ' and 'Tattoo monthly' modelling career.

[image] [image]

Despite this busy life he's a great drummer. Last night showed his ability off to perfection. Bill on sound duties ahd a great mix and the drums powered through nicely. He was a lot busier (if sometimes slower) than with his other bands and showed how good he really is.

He was enjoying himself a lot.

Of course no Chili's band coudl do it without a 'Flea'.
Last night Kev used plecs, fingers, slaps , tickles...everything and he played 'Flea's parts to perfection.

[image] [image]

He is generally regarded as one of the best bassists in the area and last night simply confirmed this.

Johnny on guitar is the youngest in the band.
He provides the backing vocals essential to that authentic Chili sound.

[image] [image]

He has the style and sound of the various lead guitarists that have been in the Peppers over the years.
He enjoys it a lot (as you can see by the 'lying down photo)and some of teh backing vox were spot on.

That leaves Mark aka Boundy on vocals.

[image] [image] [image]

Now I didn't even know Boundy was a chanter. I used to know him as the 'sound engineer' for Vertigo Neu2....but he has many talents and showed off some of them tonight.

[image] [image]

How the heck he remembers all those words is beyond me. As you know (if you've ever listened to RHCP) there's a great deal of 'rapping' with like a thousand words a minute...Boundy does this spot on. And there's not one single 'crib' sheet anywhere..

[image] [image]

There was a canny turn out and the band recieved deserved applause, especially from a young man who must be the drunkest Chili Peppers fan ever...

[image] [image]

Mark had not been well, having caught a 'bug' from his family (the buggas!!! :o ;D). He gave it 110% all the way through the one mammoth set.

[image] [image]

By the time the set finished he actually threw up....that's dedication!!!

[image] [image] [image] [image]

I would always vote in favour of a 20 minute break if the show is 2 hours. It gives people, especially the singer, a chance to catch his breath...but that's just me.

[image] [image]

The Reet Hot Chili Peppers are well worth seeing. Their ability is excellent, the song choice (if you like RHCP) very entertaining.
The sound mix was good (especially the drums).

They're still relatively new but have a busy schedule ahead. I woudl definitely try and catch them again...well maybe next week at Justin Time!!!!!

I love the Chilis and thought the whole band were superb back to front. If I had to
give a man of the match award then Adas would just edge it for what I can only
describe as playing of a Stadium Rock standard. Excellent band and I would
recommend anyone going to see them.

"Geet Funky Like"
Reet Hot Chilli Peppers. Duke Of Cumberland, Felling, Gateshead. Friday 3rd October 2008

So many bands, so little time.... such is the dilemma for a live music addict like me. As you can imagine, I have a 'to do' list as long as my arm, and as the Duke was somewhere I hadn't been in a while it was well overdue a visit. A nice pub with the well respected Micky from Powerage sorting out the bands, the Duke has long been a stalwart on the local scene - even if it were better when they still had two rooms.

The Reet Hot Chilli Peppers were a band I had wanted to see for a long time, especially considering how quickly they have built up such an excellent reputation. Don't Stop and Dani California got things rolling and went down a storm even if there were a few less people here then I had expected, most probably due to there being so many high profile gigs this weekend. We really are spoilt for choice in the North East.

Front man Mark is superb. He has the look just right, moves well and is astoundingly similar vocally. If some horrible tragedy should occur, Mark could get that gig standing on his head! Fighting off the lurgy that was running through his family, he still put on a quality performance - even if by his own admission he was struggling a little on a couple of songs midway through the set. Like someone once said, "The show must go on" so just like a footballer running off an injury he sang his way through it and 2 numbers later was back on fine form. The way he dealt with a very pissed young lad at the front had to be seen - getting him up to sing a few lines and then skillfully fending off later when the enthusiasm became a little too intrusive. On the whole an excellent performance from a guy who I spoke to at length and found to be very genuine.

Guitarist Jonny used to play in Free tribute Heavy Load. While I didn't get a chance to spend any real time getting to know him, I thought his performance tonight was rock solid and he especially shone on some of the more subtle tunes. Wittily introduced by Mark as being "Nutty as squirrel shit", bass man Kev is also a legendary Zinc Bucket and just perfect as Flea - never still and interacting superbly with drummer Adas.

What can I tell you about Adas? Well firstly I used to know him when we were in our late teens so I hadn't seen this guy in over 20 years, and he was already a class act on the drums back then. To quote Micky, his playing tonight was "Stadium class". As a guy who has been around the music scene a long time and currently plays in three bands, it's not surprising that Adas is a master percussionist. For a bloke I first heard playing such a long time ago, experience has matured his playing to a point where I could both watch and listen to him all night.

Not as knowledgeable on the Chilli's back catalog as I should be - only really knowing the most popular songs, it was great to hear such a wide ranging setlist. Just as a tribute should, the guys cover all stages of the band's career and brought out some of the classics. My highlight of the night had to be 'Suck My Kiss' - superbly performed and bouncy as hell, kicking things up a notch and bringing the set to a close with the excellent Stevie Wonder cover Higher Ground and mega-hit By The Way. Encore demands were answered by a beautifully intimate performance of Under The Bridge and the guys poured every last ounce of energy into a triumphant Give It Away, ending to much deserved roars of approval.

A thoroughly enjoyable gig and one band I can't wait to see again. The Reet Hot Chilli Peppers are - as one punter said, "Geet funky like".

Well, its been a while since anything was added here (and the chances of us getting into the recording studio to get demo's done this side of doomsday are remote!) so as I was sitting bored at work I got the idea of letting you all know about a few of our upcoming events… not simply for self promotion purposes but cos there's a few in there that are for very good causes too!

This weekend (Sat 27th Sept) we are off to the Studio in Hartlepool. This is a dedicated live music venue and if anyone hasn't been there get yourself along – have been there twice with previous bands and always had a great night. We are hoping to get photographers along so if you go you may well end up on our website!

Sunday 12th October is one of the gigs that I am writing this whole thing for – The Justin Time Charity Event… it's a charity event at Crook FC, County Durham in aid of the North East Air Ambulance. It's an all-weekend long festival type thing with 14 bands, rides outside, tattooist and various other things to support this very important cause – I don't know whether you realise but there isn't any direct funding for the air ambulance, its run on donations and costs a fortune. For more info on bands, the charity and the reason the event is taking part then visit: www.myspace.com/carpdiem21  (justintimes myspace).

Photobucket

Friday 24th October see's us play Steels social club with support from excellent young Green Day Tribute, Greendays. Green day and The Chili's? sounds like a cracking night to me!

On The Sunday after Steels (26th Oct) we are playing another charity event (being the all round decent guys that we are) and this time its at Shildon Civic Hall. This is in aid of Barnardo's  - A very worthy cause I think you will all agree ! For more info on this visit: www.myspace.com/musicatthecivic_shildon

Great night at the Grange last night for the Reet Hot Chili Peppers. It was only their 2nd outing but you wouldn't have known.

I'd been wanting to see this band having been mates with most of the band for a while now and although the Chili's sound is unique in itself and really hard to replicate I thought they did a bliddy fine job.All the Chili's classics were in there from the likes of By the Way,Throw away your Television,Dani California,Other Side,Universally Speaking,Parallel Universe,Under The Bridge,Give it away,Californication,Higher Ground and loads more.....

Mark on Vocals fitted right into the role of Anthony Keidis.I'd heard him sing before but it was from the NEU2 days and I have to say he's tons better. He was rapping away like a goodun and looked very authentic.Great job.

Adas on the drums was tight as a nuns chuff all night keeping it solid with Kev on the bass.A mighty impressive rhythm section. The Flea/chad combination is the tightest unit in the world IMO but the lads totally did it justice.Hat's off to ya's.

Jonny on Guitar seemed to be totally in his comfort zone letting rip with some really funky Frusciante guitar riffs and backing vocals.A great player and a good lad too.

A brilliant night overall and if you haven't seen these lads yet.Get yassells along and catch them. You won't be disapointed. - GRAEME WALLS (Vertigo) The Grange 24th April

great night at the conchie tonight, the reet hot chilli peppers were spot on, one of the best tribute bands i have ever seen. thank you good night - UNKNOWN The Conchie 16th May

____________________________________________________________________

I'm Not the biggest RHCP fan but the Reets feckin rock.....tremendous show last night to a well attended Conchie...

Not the easiest band to emulate but the lads had it sorted......Adas and Kev laid down some fantastic grooves, Kev is the ultimate showman and has Flea off to a T.....he's never still and jumps all over the shop, never missing a note.....great to watch...
.....first time I've seen Adas playing and he's a fantastic drummer with light and shade in his rythyms....
....then there's John on guitar, some real edgy playing and choppy style that fits in perfectly with Kev........
.....and lastly but by no means least is Mr Boundy on vocals who professed to having a sore throat blah blah.......tw@t never missed a thing all night... ;)

Excellent gig, the boys had smiles on their fyess's all night long and looked as if they were having a ball... 8-)

Anyway a deffo for everyone to check out... SANDY - (rockerfella) The Conchie 16th May

Special word must also go to the staff of the Brit who really get into the bands and help create a good night.
I liked the way the peppers did one set all the way through. It was like a propper gig.

I think support acts will become more popular especially with tribute bands. COLIN - The Britannia 21st June

The Greenday lads played a crackin 30 min set...... they've got the thing nailed down - class !!

Having missed the Trillions gig I was looking forward to seeing the lads....... they're at the stage where they're still progressing every gig which is freekin amazing considering how good they are anyway.... I noticed a big growth in stage presence and vocal confidence from Mark, he's really establishing himself as a frontman, giving a performance as well as singing the songs. Jonnie's sound is pure Fruscianti and his delivery of the Fruscuanti tempo is awesome.....solo's just flow effortlessly. The not to be underestimated BV's sounding good too. Adas keeps it all nailed together with power and precision and he's really far too good looking for this band ! Being a 4 stringer myself i'm always gonna take notice of Kev's performance...... however what's left to say that's not been said ? The Bloke is Flea !! MARK LITTLER (Vertigo) The Britannia 21st June

Well its about time we started putting things on here so what better way to start than to let you know about our upcoming first gig!

Its going to be at The Ropery in Sunderland on Easter Monday (March 24th). Its an all day kinda thing that will start off around 2-3pm with Young band Apex, then us performing an hour or so's set. Then after us you will have T-Rox, cracking T-Rex Tribute (not that you would have guessed by the name) then finishing off with an ebsolutely cracking local rock band called Diablo.

We are hoping that our 'Flea', Kev, will be back in time for this on as at the moment he is working away on the ski slopes of Austria (lucky sod!).. however if he isnt we do have a dep bassist Mark who will be standing in for this gig.

All in all it promises to be a cracking day and we can't wait to let you hear for the first time live all of your Chili pepper favourites like Can't Stop, By the way, Give It Away and Under the bridge so why not get yourselves down for a Bank Holiday beer and what hopefully should be a cracking day of live Music.
