Wednesday June 25 8pm The Black Mollys/ Million Dollar Reload/ State of Empathy Cover $5/$6

The Black Mollys are a great radio rock band you will really enjoy and just a super stage show that has made them my favorite band to come to The Trap. Million Dollar Reload from Ireland is touring with them throughout the US and the UK. Local State of Empathy is opening the show.

Those of you who are close to me know that I am never one to ask for much help. I would rather risk a hernia than bother somebody to move a popcorn machine all by myself :o) But once in awhile I will break down and reach out and I guess this one of those times.

Free Beer has been rocking with Jovarie and myself for quite awhile now and a couple of situations have come up that we need a little assistance. First and most importantly is Jovarie's health. Jovarie has been battling cancer and has accrued some very large medical bills. So I thought the least we could do was to throw a tip jar out on Thursday Nights. He would have never asked but I thought for all of those that come out and listed to him play they could throw him a bone or two to help one of the most genuine good guys I know.

For the Trap I just had a major piece of cooling equipment break down and I have to replace the unit. It served me faithfully for 15 years but its time for a brand new one as my old friend can't be repaired. So the grand total for the replacement is over $2700.00. I ordered the parts today so I have a couple of weeks to come up with the money. I am getting it fixed but once I write that check I will rely on everyone to bring their left over fries from McDonald's or maybe the pizza bone your kids don't eat to survive :o)

The Trap is doing better than ever and the shows have been going great. With the Battle for Blacklodge on its way once again this summer all is well in Trapland. But obviously this is a big chunk of change to pay out and hey, I'll be working for it entertaining the masses every Thursday night!

So come out tonight and every Thursday and enjoy the music and if you can help out then toss a couple of coins to me and Jovarie it will be much appreciated.

It's time to get your tickets, I am pretty sure they will be going fast.

All Shook Up! is cast with lots of folks you know including Me! I play Jim Haller, the drinkin" father of a cross-dressing girl played by Lindsey Guffey (who is an amazing singer I might add).

Lots of the Trap family as well, Greg Krummins (Velvet Hammers), Ashley Young (Pottersville) and Jared Caudle that used to work at The Goose.

Its gonna be a fun show so be sure and check it out.

Helen Hocker Theater Presents All Shook Up
The Helen Hocker Center for the Performing Arts is pleased to announce their upcoming musical ALL SHOOK UP.

The first musical of the 2008 season is inspired by and features the songs of Elvis Presley. Based on the plot of William Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night", this musical takes place during a 24-hour period in the summer of 1955, in a small town and tells the story of a young girl with dreams of hitting the road, and a charismatic rebel who brings rock and roll to the town and changes it forever! This hip-swiveling, lip-curling musical fantasy will have you jumpin' out of your blue suede shoes with such classics as "Heartbreak Hotel", "Jailhouse Rock", and "Don't Be Cruel."

Show dates will be February 22, 23, 29, March 1, 7 & 8 at 8pm, with matinee shows on February 24, March 2 & 9 at 2:30pm. Tickets will be $12 for adults and $10 for youth 12 & under and will go on sale beginning February 4.

For tickets or further information, please call Helen Hocker Theater at 368-0191, 9-5, M-F, or go to our web page at www.topeka.org/parksrec/hocker.shtml.

So as many of you know in the last few months we have really seen the music scene begin to pick back up and the shows have been amazing.

Well we had a few too many folks in The Trap last night and the Fire Marshall was called. He was very courteous and gave me a warning and said he will be sending an inspector my way to keep an eye on things.

So with the little bit of good news that we have so many music fans, comes some changes that may be occurring as far as Trap policies are concerned. We are still working on exactly how we want to handle things but it looks just as though we may restrict those that are under 21 for staying too late for shows that reach capacity. But we will see how it goes. Just beware that some restrictions may apply for upcoming shows but anything we do will be clearly posted.

One biggy rule to follow for everyone. DO NOT  park illegally, not down the alley or anywhere. Those complaints by area residents is what began the chain of events that got the police involved.

I guess this is one time I can really thank you all for getting my in trouble :o) Too much of good thing turned out bad this time but we will work it out and keep things legit and rocking.

So I really haven't blogged about anything real personal in awhile so here goes. .

Fortunate, that is how I would describe my life. While I have debt, stress, kids, occasional spouts with loved ones and all the other things that keep life interesting, I am really fortunate to be where I am. I don't make as much money as I would like (who does?) but after all the years of struggling with the bar and even years I probably should have called it quits it has finally come around and become a place I really want to hang out at. Not just because I own it, but because I love the people that come to see me there.

Combine that with a wonderful relationship with my wife and I feel I have the potential to do anything in life.

So at my ripe ol' age I have really began to focus on doing some things I have never done. First came the Public Address Announcing for the Roadrunners Hockey, I love it. And as of this morning I have been cast in a lead roll in All Shook Up a play at Helen Hocker Theatre. I have done theatre before but it has been some years ago and I am excited to get back into it. While the time involved is going to put some pressure on my family they are very supportive and without that I wouldnt' be able to do it.

I guess I just have to tell the world how important it is to be giving and supportive of your significant other. That freedom is what brought Dawn and I together and is what keeps us strong. I know she will read this and really this blog is mostly for her, Dawn I love you with all my heart, no matter how small you think it is :o) Oh and Dawn, jumping out of plane? really? But if that's what you want to do then I'll be there to catch you if your shoot should fail.

So the play All Shook Up begins Fri Feb 22 so come check it out.
