Right, things have been a little quiet of late due to real life. We had to cancel a few shows, including the Fest (fuck!) due to work and money commitments, and for that we are sorry.
Now moving on we are gearing up to practice and nail a bunch of new songs. We also have a 7' about to come out on the lovely Kiss of Death Records (thanks Joey for the artwork!). Hopefully we'll be ready to record a new album in the not too distant future and start organising some gigs.

We look forward to getting our shit together and seeing you all again shortly!

Ten days, sixteen thousand beers and a copy of Nuts magazine later, we have finished tour.

It has 'literally' been the best time ever and we can't thank Cheap Girls enough for being the most fun band to share a van with. Also thanks to Tim for organising the whole damn shindig and the legend that is Hussey for driving us around and making sure we didn't die a boozy death.

Thanks to everyone who helped to organise the show's, including Jay, El, Trev (the best man in Wales!), Jon, Craig, Dan, Ruth, Dave, Sam, Christian, Lil, Greg and Sam (sorry if I missed anyone - I'm still recovering!).

We have had a blast, although apologies for the people of Leeds....... this will never be spoken about again! We hope to do it again soon and in the meantime we should have a lovely new 7' available in the not too distant future, hopefully followed by a new EP/Album!

Thanks again,

Bailey, Greg and Jack

ps we have t-shirts in lovely blue and white designs - pictures and purchase details to follow shortly!

and do you know what? whats because we dont do anything!! haha

anyways, we had a fantastic time at the fest this year, as always the yanks sorted us right out, thanks to o pioneers and the dukes of hazard for sorting us out with equipment, there was another band in tampa that helped us out but that night is a little hazy still! thanks to them too! cheers to all the brits for turning up to watch us along with the new bruises / kiss of death folk and north lincoln.

a week before fest i got made redundant, and am still looking for work - so if anyone knows of any jobs going around portsmouth - give me a shout! heh

we recorded three songs that we have been playing at gigs, so if and when they are released you'll probably be able to sing along on the first listen! (ha that would be scary if you could, and also really sad haha) and we're looking to practice a whole lot more and write some new songs, we have about 10 half written tunes that we should really sort out. a couple shows before the end of 2008, and hopefully have some new songs to play in 2009.

it wont be too much longer till chillerton is 10 years old! i think we formed in 2001, three more years! haha mental.

lastly, my record collection is growing but i still need more, so im up for swapping any of the LPs / CDs listed below for records. i like stuff like samiam, gunmoll, HWM, chuck regan, old delta blues, the usual shit - get in touch if you want to swap for anything below, thanks

Chillerton – Bleak Unison

If there's one album this year that reminded me of the power of punk-rock, it was little-known Portsmouth band Chillerton with their first full-length Bleak Unison. This album has that rare quality with aggressive music in that it pulls on your insides, makes the hairs on your arms stand on edge and puts your whole life in perspective. The heartfelt, raspy vocals and brutally honest small-town lyrics combine with Leatherface-esque technical ability to a staggering debut full-length. The best punk rock album of 2008 by a country mile.

PS We have a load of new gigs listed and more to be confirmed, so have a check and if you can come we'll see you there!

So yeah I think we have all just about recovered from Fest- just want to use this blog as a kind of thanks list to all the friends and people that really helped us out in Gainesville.

Without- New Bruises, Jonathan (aesthetic designs) for the amazing shirts, Matt at Transitions in Tampa, Eric & Val (I heart U productions) for the koozies, North Lincoln, Tony, Ryan Murphy, Var and everyone at No Idea, Chris & Hannah Ghost Mice, Everyone involved in Wayward Council, Ernie at Side Bar, Lemuria and the whole UK massive we would have been totally fucked!!

Same time next year?

CHILLERTON "Bleak Unison" CD Boss Tuneage

Man this seems like it's been one heck of a long time coming, but oh lordy lou it has most certainly been worth the wait! This is one mighty fine album, and I think they may well have benefited from the wait, maybe found their "sound" a bit more than some bands tend to do these days? Though having said that things haven't really changed a great deal
from their few CDep's and the 7", so maybe I doth talk the bollocks?
These guys have been compared to a fair few No Idea Records bands and you can't really argue with that, they would fit on that label just
dandy and that's high praise indeed as far as I am concerned. Fairly mid paced tuneful punk rock tunes played by a real solid 3 piece, with
fairly equally shared vocals between Jack the guitarist and Bailey the
bass player, and just the one guitar really suits the style of music I think. Really great lyrics, some personal, some of bigger issues, but all really well written. A nice production job, very nice artwork and layout, and 3 really great chaps, put out by a top label, I'm very
happy.

Chillerton- Bleak Unison

'If you're not careful you can miss this. First listen and it's Gainesville this, Hot Water Music that, gravelly punk rock the other. Second listen and you decide that Chillerton are dissonant and dismissable as another melodic punk band doing stuff you have heard done better. Third listen and you read the hand-written lyrics in the inlay. You fall in love and don't look back.'

from www.sweetjanemusic.com-

'Chillerton, from England are not an especially innovative band, like alot of the acts on Boss Tuneage they represent the kind of music that hasn't existed for a long time. They play punk rock in the school of LEATHERFACE, JAWBREAKER and HOT WATER MUSIC and music from the 90's. This includes areas such as sound, melody and production- what should a fan find different about this band? Maybe a warm and trustworthy feeling? Overall when a band does it as well as CHILLERTON, what can one say? Whoever listens to this disc that includes the classical sounds by those who got excited by MANIFESTO JUKEBOX and GAINESVILLE bands will listen to a dirty/emotional punk rock that serves well with this English variant from Portsmouth. Open guitar riffs, coarse singing and good melodies. The nice thing about bands like Chillerton is that one can hear their heartbeat, the honesty with which this music was made. Miles away from 'screamo-charts and Danzrock (?). Put up your glasses and sing along with all your might. That's what we need, as that is what we grew up with.

from  www.gaesteliste.de-

Chillerton come from England, but at first they sound like they are from Florida. A bit like HOT WATER MUSIC and AGAINST ME!. The progression of the CD always dips into other well known bands, but nothing changes as BLEAK UNISON is a strong disc. Hip melodies etc. can't be found here, the 3 young men orientate themselves musically as the younger generation and at the leading bands such as LEATHERFACE, JAWBREAKER and SAMIAM and what that means is clear! Zippy choruses and melodies are played over dirty/rough guitars and are dominated by husky vocals. the result is not only first class, headbanging songs such as 'FINGERS CROSSED', 'DEATH IN BOTH EARS', and 'RUSTED STRINGS', but also a superbly honest and direct punk rock album that everyone should hear.

from www.onetake.de

Are they too strong or are you too weak? From the first second one can hear the scratchy voices from the throat, they're raw but also melodic and are like anthems. They follow the tradition characterized from bands such as 'FUEL- Monuments to excess', 'JAWBREAKER- Unfun' and 'HOT WATER MUSIC- Fuel for the hate game'. They only needed a weekend to record this record and this directness and fresh sound can be heard throughout BLEAK UNISON, powered from a powerful anger in the stomach that doesn't leave you alone for long. Don't grow up and become too handsome too quickly.

from www.visions.de

Obviously this is almost too easy. Who awaits to see really innovative bands? Haven't HOT WATER MUSIC lost their passion to develop their music further? Of course one can argue about it, fans will get to express their views, but therefore it is also fun to talk about it. Who needs innovation when the passion is so high spirited til the end with a riff and rough throaty sound in the first couple of seconds which leaves you with goose pimples. Now we understand each other. The 3 young men remind me of LEATHERFACE, HOT WATER MUSIC and JAWBREAKER with their surprising debut album for Boss Tuneage, they have brought the wonderful world of rough punk music, that with their muted/lowered guitars, whiskey drinking sounds and singalong anthems. Once having listened to their CD you believe that you've heard it before, but the passion has not been this strong for a long time.

MASSIVE thanks to Sarah Rexhaus for translating all of this for us!!!

CHILLERTON - 'BLEAK UNISON' CD
CHILLERTON have a really interesting sound. It's really chaotic and they have this really 'disorganized' style which is something I really go for. I could imagine this being released on No Idea. They have that unpredictable and very unformulaic approach with influence from LEATHERFACE, AGAINST ME!, THE LAWRENCE ARMS and JAWBREAKER and they have some serious fucking energy. They are heavy but with strong melody and they're hardcore and punk all at once... a very unique sound indeed. There's nothing I don't like about this record. It's got me really bewildered because I haven't really heard anything like CHILLERTON before. I hear all these possible stimuli in their sound but CHILLERTON are totally unique. There have been some truly impressive punk bands coming out of the ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />UK recently, which is such a great thing, and CHILLERTON have just leaped to the top of my list. Shit hot.

Debut full-lengther from Portsmouth, UK trio is an impressively raggedy-ass sounding affair of small-town suffocation spearheaded by some boot-chomping vocals like Billy Bragg gone binge-drinking with the marines that almost allows it to peek over the edge of its emo-screamo-weemo cot into the world outside the front room. Despite 'Homeshy' having the line 'It's so boring here / There's nothing to do so let's get wasted' you'll be left with the distasteful, queasy feeling that with a bigger production budget they'd sound like a bunch of trans-atlantic bleaters along with all the other star-tattooed tripe-swillers of the emo-eagles world.

Portsmouth punks keep it real

A look inside the credits of Chillerton's debut album tells you all you need to know about the Portsmouth trio. Recorded over a single weekend – a claim backed up by the abrasive clatter of these 12 tracks – this is low budget, feel good punk at its finest. Singalong's and bouncing chords are the name of the game here, with each track rarely passing the three minute mark just like the one before it. However, it's fortunate that punk has never been about technical ability because there are moments that are piss poor at best. Vocals screech and crackle as much as the guitars and amps, but its underpinned by a passion and sincerity that's nothing if not admirable.

- Ryan Bird

BIG CHEESE

****

Ex- Jets vs Sharks men unleash a storming debut of gruff emo punk.

This Portsmouth trio have been gigging for a while now and released promising splits and a great self-titled EP. However, this debut full-length sees the band take a leap forward with powerful and gritty melodic punk sing alongs. Like a mix of Gunmoll, Small Brown Bike and Jawbreaker their sound of soaring melodies and urgency, combined with strained choruses and infectious songs that hark back to the mid-90's when 'emo' was a passionate and raw sound rather than just a haircut and a pair of girls jeans. Opener "All We Know" is intense and honest, whereas "Homeshy" blasts out of the starting block with the great shouted lyric "its so boring here, there's nothing to do so lets get wasted". The energetic "Rusted Strings", "Let's Get Reckless!" (with guest vocals from Tim of You, Me and the Atom Bomb) and genius-titled "You've Got Red On You" are highlights but this is probably one of the best debut albums you'll hear all year
