What a strange couple of gigs, firstly the Oldham Wizzards MCC bash at Greenfield nr Oldham then the A8 Virago classic club and local nutters/care in the community outing at Birmingham.

As we blew our PA system up a couple of weeks ago we had "sweaty teccy Andy" with us for the first gig at Greenfield and his humongus PA system. " I can have this baby up and running within the hour" he told us....................... nearly 3 hours later we were still fiddling around trying to get some noise out of the kit with the Oldham Wizzards getting pissed off and threatening to cast spells on us if we didnt get on with it.
First set and we were flat as a witches tit, the wizzards looked restless and things were looking grim especially when Paul our beloved leader screwed up freebird beyond the relms of how much you can screw things up. Things were bad so taking a gamble we decided to all get pissed.
Second set, we were magnificent, I dont remember it but I am sure we were. The wizzards were all wizzarding around having a jolly old time and I recall large breasted women dancing round to "The Jack"

As I write this I cant help sniggering as Ray Mears is explaining how soft the fur is on beavers, childish I know.

Saturday night 5pm and its down the M6 to Birmingham for a bikers do. Our PA is still fooked so we hire one from Craig & Andy. How big is the venue they say? we say its a biker rally it could be a stadium bring loads of stuff like big heavy boxes and speakers. Paul rings and says shall we take the small guitar cabs, no we say bring the big ones its a bikers do and it could be a stadium. Do we need lights and things, of course its a bikers do and it could be a stadium bring lights, smoke, pyro, and some extra heavy boxes........ Anyways we end up in a rugby club the size of a small shed with enough gear to register a 7 on the richter scale and a very worried looking bar steward looking on as we pile speaker after speaker inside..  (By the way Ray is talking about mooses now) What a good night it turned out to be, mad virago owners in fancy dress well up for a party and an immense sound from our huge PA system. Thanks to Andy and Craig for coming down and doing the sound for usand thanks for having us to the Brummies.
Next up its The Bike and hound on Friday and the return of our PA System.

Miss Frank has just been booted off the X factor as I wind this up and it's a shame as the blonde one has cracking cans, never mind come on John & Edward

It was with a heavy heart (and belly after the fish, chips and mushy peas pre-gig tea) that we said our goodbyeeees to the Eddy. A dodgy first set thanks to Paul's personal duel with his volume pedal and associated techno prob's.  The pedal and techno prob's won again!. After a bit of on the spot rewiring we were back to our best pumping more volts out than the whole of the golden mile on illumination night.

Highlights of the night - Robby copping after the 2nd number with something from Madam Toussaud's, tel numbers have been swopped allegedly and the headbanging boys who lifted the night to even greater heights. The crowd was swelled by a bunch of lads freshly unimpressed from a local Billy Idol cover act, they got what they wanted at the Eddy.

Si proved once again the Eddy tables can take an overweight Chaddy lad freshly loaded with Kebabs and Greek ale belting out Rosie! Well dun chunky monkey...

Daz had no prob's with the kit but plenty with the stereo ear crushing from the Marshalls and the least said about Rob the better who played the whole first set with overdrive on and spent the entire set wandering round the pub listening from different angles wondering who was makin the firkin racket! It certainly made a difference to Funky Music and Freebird in particular it has to be said.

A big thanx to the gaffers at the Eddy and their crackin rock lovers it has been a pleasure to play for you. We hope to meet up again next year at the TT.

After a tour of Eccles, and beyond, the lads finally found their way to the back entrance of the Oddfellows (sounds like one of my least favourite pornsites). As each lap of the surrounding area was completed another band associated car got added to the convoy, in the end we landed at our destination - thanks to Terry who I think only got out for a piss and stumbled on the place.
A frantic set up for a 9pm start meant a few sound prob's and the fairly sparce crowd didn't bode well for a good night. However, after a short break, a fag and a cider the place filled up. A crackin crowd turned the last hour n half into a great rockin night and the aches of the Hindley bash soon evaporated.

Shame this is a Sunday only gig but if invited back I'm sure we'll forsake our Sunday night pre work cocoa and slippers for a rock out.

Good to see Ian (Riff Raff) and Michelle who arrived back on the scene of her 40th the night before.

Thanks to our loyal supporters once again.

Next stop Blackpool and our last gig at The King Eddy

Another crackin nite at the Hindley Arms (Pizza Express). One of our favourite venues and it didn't disappoint. One or two local rockers including Roy (the Viking/Rocking Ken of central Lanc's).  All that plus free ale and nosh!! - only bed n brekky missing.

No tech prob's with Si becomming surprisingly equipped at getting the PA working first time! A massive setlist saw the lads completely knackered at the end only managing to get home on the carb's supplied by robbing the local totty's kebab n chips on the way past the pub at 1.30am. Fortunately they weren't in a fit state to fight us off (Daz in particular who managed a right handful of meat before she managed to get away - kebab that is).

No fancy dress this week just hard n loud playing. A good nights kip then off to our debut at the Oddy's in Eccles tomorrow night.

See you there.

So Whittles it was and what a good night.... but strange in some ways!

Twas nice to see all the usual suspects and for me it was a pleasure to meet Lesley, Simon's other half that I was convinced was a figment of his imagination until she grabbed me by the throat and introduced herself.

The cock up measuring tool registered a win for Paul by 3 cock up's to Daz and only 2 to Paul, this was contested by Daz and is still being debated today.

Thank you Simon for introducing me as the band pervert although I did find it mildly erotic playing in a gas mask and wig and tried to sneak it home to "experiment" with.

Thank you to Keef for locking the front doors to stop anyone escaping and thanks to Wurzel Gummage for doing the sound.

We have been trying to think up some new songs and would love to have some feedback on this,... so if you would like us to play anything please drop us a line or reply to this blog. It would also proove that someone actually reads this crap.

No gigs this weekend but the week after we are at The Hindley Arms on Saturday 29th and The Oddfellows @ Eccles on Sunday  the 30th

Don't know bout the rest of the band but I was still stiff from the return gig at the Bike last week! (must have been the barmaids low cut top)

Great bunch at the Cricketers, too many to mention but Viking, Norma and Charlie deserve one along with Pete and the family and Dave (2 on the trot mate - cheers) and of course our loyal crew (you know who u r).

Although we worked our tripe off the balance wouldn't come and began to get on our ever expanding tits so we reverted to our tried and trusted method for dealing with techno prob's and TURNED EVERYTHING UP!!!!!

Robby wore the same gear as the week before which meant a return of the now famous "Life of Brian" T Shirt (which gets more of a mention after the gigs than the performance). If it doesn't get a wash soon it'll be turning up to gigs on it's own.

Rob brought his latest Irish, a Brian May black curly job, but only lasted one song under it before the sweat burned his eyes and promptly passed it to Paul who managed half of a Jimmy Page riff before it started to slip off his shiny sweaty napper down his shoulder leaving him looking like a moulting Orangutan.

Daz played with the set back to front and upside down again finishing songs just after the rest of us a la Corporal Jones on parade!  Si put in another top performance, his second on the run, which has had us trawling through the Oldham Piss Poor Bands Journal 1965 - 2009 to check if this is a record. Si reckons his previous best is 3 in 1978 but this needs to be verified!

Anyway enuff of this bollox. The show continues at Whittles on Saturday where we don't get to fook about with the sound, we leave that to Simon (swallow) Dundee, the David Hasselhoff of Oldham.

See you there

So at last we're back playing again!! Paul has a bionic shoulder and can play faster, stronger, longer, than ever before (and is a member of the caravan club).
After a long lay off we played out first gig for 3 months and its just like we have never been away.

Paul was late.
Simon was late and the PA wouldnt work
Daz had forgotten how to erect his drums (while on the subject of erect, congratulations to him and Cath on moving in together)
Robbie was doing more nob twiddling than gay pride
And I was missing out on a "special" ping pong tournament.

The Bike & Hound was as usual a great gig where the locals love loud and live music and after a rusty start for 3 or 4 songs we managed one of our better performances with a special mention going to Simon who's vocals were spot on.

We had to call it a day after 3 encores as Pauls shoulder was giving him jip and to be honest we were all knackered.

A huge thanks as usual to the large number of people that came along to see us including Paul & Jean, Jackie and Aiden (ID card next time matey) Cath and all the rest, you know who you are

its The Cricketers in Shaw next Saturday and we would love to see you all down there..

Last gig before Paul's shoulder op and the boys upped their game. Crowd up for it and it was evident most had consumed copious amounts of festival week-end ale. One of our favourite gigs and one we don't like ending so the 12 o'clock deadline imposed by the lovely Joanne was ever so slightly stretched by 20 minutes to the sound of GnR, Beastie Boys and Ozzy, which left the crowd drifting into the dark a happy bunch.

Amongst the crowd were Mr Biker FM himself (or smashy to us - does a lotta gud work for charity mate - not arf). Also we later learned Mr and Mrs NWB were present for some of the second half and who later left a great message on the NWB website, which was greatly appreciated.

For once the guitar/electrical demons were missing (apart from the sodding monitors for a short spell) so we were left to concentrate on just playing for once.

Other stuff to report, Rob's "clean" dressing up box was raided during the gig, with blonde wig and Elvis shades being passed around, Robby deciding the wig looked best as a knacker cover, which Simon seemed surprisingly attracted to. Mind you he's just come back from the home of the ladyboy!
Once again thanks to our travelling army of supporters who never cease to amaze us with their stay-ability.

We'll be back better than ever as soon as Paul's recovered.

Current mood:  grumpy
Its been a while since we blogged but if anyone reads this dribble then here is an update of what we have been up to.

After a good gig at Blackburn rugby club we went for a first trip to Fingers bar AKA The hindley arms, and what a good bar this is, if you like your rock music live and loud then go and have a look.

The bar was packed full of a classic rock loving crowd and for the first time that I have known we played on and on until we completely ran out of songs, as a rule we go on a bit and do long sets but I am convinced they would have had us on all night if we knew enough material.

It was a tough gig as Robbie & Rob were both suffering with man flu (far more serious than puffy old mexican bird flu) Paul was strill struggling with the figure skating injury he picked up at christmas, Simon was going on his lads only holiday to Thiland at 6am and was a little excited. Only Daz the drummer was 100% and managed to carry the entire band through both sets, thanks Daz.

Unfortunatley we dont know about the rest of our coming gigs this summer as Glaxo Smith Kline are still trying to sort Rob & robbie out and who knows what state Simon will be in after Thiland. The main problem though is Paul will going in for an operation in the next few days and will be out of action for up to 6 months. Lets just take this opportunity to thank Paul for his commitment to the band and hope that his operation  goes smoothly and he recovers quickly. We also respect his decision to be called Susan after the operation.

The lads weighed in 10lbs overweight following the xmas festivities but still punched above their weight. Anticipating a spartan crowd of overindulged punters it was with great festive joy the band were faced with a warm rapturous bunch who were in the mood to celebrate the start of a new year. Regulars from the Rising Sun in Mossley were accompanied by our infamous OoB followers, bolstered by the presence of Rockin Ken and his buddy. Has to be said it was a stirling performance from the band considering we hadn't picked up the tools for 3 weeks. Highlights of the night has to be Paul M's modelling of the scouse wig, Robby's tuner (which only seems to misfire on Sanctuary) and Simon's filthy T Shirt which serves to remind all men about vegetarian women! Congrat's to Daz who finally decided to beat the shit out of his drums and to Rob who managed to get in the crows nest again for best legs watch (which didn't pay off).

Thanks to all who came and to all at the Werneth
