The OverDrive, a Rock band, was
born in ....Italy.... in May 2007, in a cellar of a
small town in Gallura, called Tempio Pausania, situated in the Northern part of
..Sardinia... It was born almost for fun, to
express their passion for music.....
Having discovered it individually,
Pietro Sanna in art “Steel” (Rhythm Guitar), and Fabio Brunzu in art “Jack”
(First Guitar) decided to meet each other, learn the basics for playing the
guitar, and start to play this instrument.....
Steel remembers: << I wanted
to learn how to play the guitar and I discovered that Jack has been knowing
some arrangements, so I decided to ask him if he wanted to teach me them..
Everything starts with this>>. Jack accepted this challenge and started
immediately to teach Steel what he knows, being satisfied of the results of his
“pupil”.....
Over the months their dedication
for the music brought them at the decision to create a band, including in the
group Andrea Sanna in art “Crash” , as a bassist. << I still remember
when Steel and Jack insisted to buy a bass. So I was almost forced to play it,
that I bought with the money that I had put aside. At the end I brought it at
home with a motorbike given me by a friend>>, this are the words of
Crash.....
Months were passing and Steel,
Jack and Crash were meeting to play with no singer and drum, but finally in
March 2007 after a long search was added to the group Giuseppe Demuro, in art
“Uomo”: Me and Steel were sitting in the rear seats of a
friend’s car. I was humming a song that was on the radio and Stell suddenly asked
me if I wanted to become the singer of his group. I immediately accepted, why
not?!
Only one component was missing to
complete the project of the band. From that moment started a period of crisis,
because was very difficult to find guys really motivated and interested in
music as Steel, Jack, Crash and Uomo were.....
Despite this, the researches were
successful: they found a twelve years old guy with a great passion for rock
music: Giovanni Masia in art “Joey”, the drummer.....
Finally the band was complete and
was ready to split and play some good rock ‘n roll.....
The ideas were many and the desire
to play was growing, and after a long research and a lot of work, the band
started to play.....
During the summer of the same year
is seen their first public performance, in a town festival, and immediately the
crowd feel the emotion of the onset (debut) and the rock vibrations that were
in the air.....
The guys proposed three famous
Guns ‘n Roses songs:....
Wild Horses, Knocking on Heavens Door and Sweet
Child 'o Mine. Jack and Steel recall: <....14:30 p.m.. and had
to play at ..21:00 p.m... We were
there to try for hours and hours the same pieces.. The good thing is that the
volume of the music was so high that it bring the people to see what was
happening>>.....
After a period of restructuring of their
practice room, the cellar of the house of brothers Steel and Crash, and of course the
continuation of the study on new songs to interpret, the team resumes to play
and add more songs, and having acquired a definite mastery on their instruments
and on their potential, came out the band's first single titled " 'Cause
We Are Free".
In March 2008, The OverDrive perform at One Pub (a pub in Tempio Pausania)
presenting in the middle of the ladder also their new song, proving a great
success. Steel recalls: We were proving in view of our first exibition in public and I said that
it was time to present our creation and see the reaction of the public.
Although the others were slightly 'skeptical because the days to arrange their
song were few, despite of this I convinced them and that evening "' Cause
we are free" was a success.
The band was called to play in lots of private parties, at Arzachena at
Bar San Francisco, at "Memorial, note per Andrea" organized by the
municipality of Arzachena, at the "Day of Art" a festival organized
by the school districts of the province of
Olbia- Tempio, even here it was much appreciated and rewarded in the top
places for their originality and their interpretation.
Unabated even during the summer holidays they continued to meet and try out new
pieces, creating new others as "The Last Night", and performing in
some bars of the Costa Smeralda and at the evening "Voci e Suoni Sotto le
Stelle" organized by the ....Municipality.. of ..Luras.....
Subsequently, the band has participated in the National comptetition “Tour
Music Fest”, passing the first selection in ....Cagliari..... The boys
arrived at the second selection that took place in ....Rome...., but
unfortunately the jury rejected their project and their experience in TMF
ended.
Crash points out that just arrived there
with all their instrumentation everyone looked at them suspicious because they
seemed as drunk, even the police! In the end for them was not important to
arrive at the end or win the competition [and who cares]they said, they had fun
and friendship and unity of the group became even stronger.
To date the band has done other events in various public locals of the
island and brings the project forward to the publication of the first album, a
collection of their songs.
In it there is an alternation of the rhythm, from Rock as "Bad vice,"
"The last night," "Angel in the darkness," to get to
melodic notes such as "In my Heart", "Cause we are free" ,
and "Into the storm."

The band is studying on other songs and
hopefully one day they could offer them to the public.....
In July 2009 the OverDrive sign a contract with the Green Production which
is publishing the band's first cd that conteins two of the unpublished band's
songs....

The OverDrive name was born by chance, by the
idea of Jack. Jack says that one day
while the band was together in the cellar to decide the name of the band, he
looked to his multieffects, which usually was full of dust, and into a cleaner
part it was able to glimpse something, he turns around and read “Overdrive”,
which in Italian means "to exploit beyond the limits." 'OverDrive is
indeed a' guitar effect that gives the sound a touch more aggressive.....
This meaning for the band was
perfect. The intention of the band is trying to reach their desire playing the
music that expresses their real essence, and break down barriers of all limits
after which exists only music and its power. ....
