You know your pet is cute and adorable, but does everyone else?! Here's your chance to show him or her off to the world! Your pet can become famous and every penny raised will benefit a great cause!

We will be creating a 2010 PAWS calendar which will feature one lucky pet per month. Thirteen lucky pets will be chosen to represent the 12 months plus the cover page.

Learn more, enter the photo contest and pre-order calendars online at
http://pawsnela.com/calend..arcontest.html.

Here's how it will work. We are holding a photo contest where you can enter your pet(s) for a $15 entry fee for the 1st photo and $5 entry fee for each additional photo. A panel of impartial judges will choose the 13 winning entries. Not only will the winning pets get to have their photos in calendars all over Northeast Louisiana, they will help raise much needing funding at the same time! All proceeds from the photo contest and the calendar sales will benefit the PAWS of NE Louisiana Spay Neuter Services building fund.

Deadline for entries is November 14, 2009 so get your pets entered today! See attached files for entry form and rules.

Calendars will be available for $17.00 beginning December 5, 2009. The full size calendar measures 10.25" x 15.6" when open. Supplies will be limited so you can also pre-purchase them now and pick them up when they are ready or pay $3 extra per calendar and we will mail them to you. You can still pre-order a calendar even if you aren't entering the contest!

If you have any questions, please email us at calendar@pawsnela.org.

Please forward this to all of your pet-loving friends and family!

Thanks!!!

There are several labs at the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter that we would love to help get out of the shelter and into rescue so we can find them homes. This would also open up space at the shelter for new dogs. We can not help them though unless we find short term foster homes. We prefer that our foster dogs be fostered indoors in a family environment so that it will make it faster and easier to find them homes. We cover all vet care expenses and you provide a loving temporary home, a couple of trips to the vet and food (unless it's an adult and we have adult dog food provided by Purina Pro Plan Rally To Rescue that we can provide you). We can also let you borrow a crate if you don't have one.

Please read about these dogs in need below and see if you can help one of them. They are all very deserving of a second chance!

Old Yeller -
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=14391874 - 12 year old male lab, surrendered to the shelter because his owners moved to an apartment. Imagine how confused he is after living with the same family for 12 years. He could also use a permanent local family so he won't have to endure a long transport with the rescue. So if you would like to provide him a loving place to live out his remaining years, that is also an option!

Betty & Wilma -
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=14421084 - black lab sisters, about 2 1/2 months old. Typical fun loving lab pups. They can be fostered seperately.

Crissy -
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=14289479 - yes, she definitely has some hound in there somewhere, but she is adorable and a sweetheart. She's about 2 1/2 - 3 months old.

Please take a chance on fostering a pup or an old fella, it's very rewarding! Just email rescue@pawsnela.org if you have questions or would like to be a foster mom or dad.

Remember the garage sale that a few of our volunteers had a few weeks ago? They had GREAT success and made $2,000 for the animals at the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter. That was awesome and much appreciated!

They had lots of stuff left over so they will be holding another garage sale this Saturday, August 15, starting at 6am at the same location, 300 Cheyenne Drive in West Monroe (Indian Lakes). You can email Deanna at
deanna.kramer@hotmail.com if you need directions or have any questions.

They have given us a great idea to put out to all of our volunteers so that YOU can help raise funds too! The garage sale will now be known as the "Sell Your Litter To Fix A Critter" Sale and will benefit the PAWS Low-Income Spay/Neuter Program and other efforts that we have in the works to spay and neuter even more pets each year.

We are hoping that a different volunteer or group of volunteers will take charge and hold their own "Sell Your Litter To Fix A Critter" Sale each month. We could help spread the word about each event and hopefully provide volunteers if needed. This is an easy way to get involved and help raise money for spay/neuter which helps save the lives of thousands of animals every year!

Please email pawsnela@yahoo.com or message us on myspace and let us know if you would be interested in holding your own "Sell Your Litter To Fix A Critter" Sale or if you have any questions! Deanna will be donating all of her leftover items from the 8/15 sale to help get you started if you are the 1st one to have a sale!

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

Some of our volunteers are having a garage sale that will benefit the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter. The garage sale will take place on Saturday, July 25th, 7am, at 300 Cheyenne Drive, West Monroe (in Indian Lakes Subdivision).

You can help in 2 ways:

1) Clean out those closets and donate that stuff that you no longer need
2) Stop by the garage sale and do a little shopping (then head on over to Petco where we'll have several dogs and cats for adoption from 12-4. You can also stop by and get a free pet id tag from us at Petco)

If you have items to donate, email DeAnna Kramer who is helping coordinate the rummage sale at
dkramer@bddswlaw.com
See email below from DeAnna...

Thanks!

Subject: WE NEED YOU

WE NEED YOU!!!!!

Dear Friends,

A couple of my friends and I are going to be having a garage sale July 25th to raise money to buy supplies for the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter. We are asking all of our friends, family and co-workers to help pitch in on this one.

I know many of you have things you want to get rid of. Well here is your chance. You can donate all of your garage sale items and the best news of all is that this will be going for a great cause.

As you know, with the economy the way it is, people can’t afford to take care of their pets like they used to. The animal shelter is taking in more pets per day than ever right now. I get e-mails almost daily saying they need help. Please help us!! We would love to be able to bring a truck load of supplies to them.

I do not mind picking things up from you. Just let me know and I will be glad to come by and grab anything you may have.

Please dig deep and help us with this great cause!!!!  Also, please tell anyone you know who may be willing to help out.

Thanks for your time and consideration!

July 9, 2009 - Thursday
We have the opportunity to get some Australian Shepherd mix puppies and an Australian Shepherd adult from the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter into rescue but we need to get them to the Shreveport airport sometime on Friday, July 10. There is a pilot who is offering to fly them to their rescues but it has to be Friday and it has to be out of Shreveport.

The plans are still up in the air and I don't know exactly what time the dogs need to be in Shreveport but I should know something on Thursday.

If you are free on Friday and can help get these puppies/dog to the Shreveport airport on Friday, please email rescue@pawsnela.org and let me know!

Another transport is coming through our area.  They are still looking for someone to drive Powder the Chow from Monroe to Shreveport on Friday any time after 2:45pm. This is the only leg they need to fill to get Powder's transport completed. If you can drive Powder to Shreveport, please email Suzanne at  YoungSunDog@aol.com

Thanks!

We are trying to free up some cage space at the Ouachita Parish AniWe are trying to free up some cage space at the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter by pulling some of their dogs and getting them into rescue. We just need some temporary foster homes in order to do this. Please look at the dogs below to see if you might be able to foster them. We cover vet expenses and we do prefer that our foster dogs stay indoors with their foster families.

Dixie - 4 month black lab, she weighs about 45 pounds - see her profile here www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=13889442

Black Beauties - adorable and lovable 2 month old black lab puppies - www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=13874674

If you are interested in fostering one of them or have questions, please send us a message or email rescue@pawsnela.org. You can also visit our foster home page at www.pawsnela.com/rescue_fosters.html

Or if you'd like to adopt one of them or one of the many other pets at the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter that would be great too! There are many purebreeds at the shelter including a Chihuahua, Cocker Spaniel, Australian Cattle Dog, Great Pyrenees, Pointer, Border Collie, etc. Just visit the shelter website at
www.parishpets.petfinder.com.
