I like this one...it answers and dispells a myth at the same time ...peep it...

SASHA :  okay so i am going to UNLV its my last year there. and i have to write a 2000 word essay of my own choice. i decided underground hip hop and who better to ask then a veteran of it. and i have jsut one question that you might be able to help me out with. why did you decide underground as opposed to mainstream hip hop?

Q-UNIQUE :
you know what...it chose me...i always believed, and still do, that, to this day, my music fits in the surface world...the fact that there is a standard of how a record should sound in order to have the priviledge of being on commercial radio is a bit obsurd to me, its a containment of art, and creating a cloned culture...not allowing people to truly express themselves, like they once did  in hip hop when groups like tribe called quest, were on the radio along with KRS one and Public enemy, ...and no one sounded the same.as a matter of fact it was basically an unspoken crime to sound like the other rapper...also...no one had to pay for their position, and come up with an adventurous story in order for you to purchase or even be interested in the music.....so in a sense i feel robbed.because radio play and world wide recognition should be based on the merit of a good song, or a good album.. not a good publicity team..but the type of person that i am...i wont take no for an answer...so i will be on the surface, on my own terms...one way or another...

I get alot of mail and requests from cats that want me to listen to their work and give my opinion...This is what i truly feel about this: Don't concern yourself with what people feel about your work, keep doin what you do...if it makes you happy and you're proud of your work, what does it matter what I or anyone else thinks. The best way to know if you are on the right track, is to study your surroundings, and see how you fit in, or how you stand out. Also, some of the best albums have been shitted on by magazine and other opinion...From Led Zepplin To O.C's "Times up", shit, I even know someone who passed up on signing Nas..So really, just believe in what ya doin, and fuck what other people think...
