The release date for "Traced in Air," the new album from reunited progressive metallers CYNIC originally slated for release on October 28th via SEASON OF MIST RECORDS in North America, has now been pushed back to November 25th, 2008. The album will be released a week earlier by Season of Mist in Europe on November 17th, 2008. In a statement about the date change, guitarist/vocalist Paul Masvidal comments, "When Season of Mist made us aware of the release date change, it was immediately apparent that this offered us the potential to spread the word even more about this album. Sean and I are extremely proud of the new record and are looking forward to sharing it with CYNIC fans around the world, even if we have to wait just a bit longer. We're thrilled about touring with OPETH next month in Europe, and of course the states tour beginning in January is going to be on fire!"
The first run of CYNIC's "Traced in Air" CD will be a limited-edition hard cover digi-pak with the cover artwork embossed to further showcase the beautiful cover by renowned artist Robert Venosa, as well as eight original pieces of art paired with the eight songs found on the album. Venosa created the unmistakable cover and visuals for 1993's groundbreaking "Focus" album. This limited-edition will also feature a poster of the cover art. Also released the same day is the Traced in Air Collector's Box, which will only be available for order on-line and limited to 1,000 copies. The box contains the following: * USB keychain with the Cynic logo included * DVD size album art and lyric booklet * Three stickers with Venosa art from Traced in Air * Postcard sticker of the Traced in Air cover * Plexiglas case, etched with the Cynic logo and album title for CD included * Compressed Cynic t-shirt * Limited Edition Poster * Journal: Limited edition also contains a one of a kind translucent 24-page journal booklet (magnifying glass included), with personal notes, lyric sketches, rare photos, thoughts and dreams taken directly from Cynic's universe, mostly consisting of Paul Masvidal's personal journals which tell the story of Traced In Air and his own creative process as a songwriter. Equally lucid and esoteric, a true Cynic fan will cherish the raw beauty of this unique and profound piece of art.

Official band press release, posted by Blabbermouth. Source

Reunited progressive metallers CYNIC — whose 1993 album "Focus" is regarded as a landmark release in the field of technical/progressive metal — will release their new album, "Traced In Air" on October 28 via Season of Mist Records (one day earlier internationally). The CD contains eight songs, and the band worked once again with renowned artist Robert Venosa (who created the unmistakeable cover and visuals for "Focus") on the art for the new album, which can be viewed below.
"Traced In Air" track listing:
01. Nunc Fluens 02. The Space For This 03. Evolutionary Sleeper 04. Integral Birth 05. The Unknown Guest 06. Adam's Murmur 07. King of those Who Know 08. Nunc Stans
Returning from the "Focus" era for the new eight-song, 35-minute effort are are founding members Paul Masvidal (guitars/clean vocals) and Sean Reinert (drums) along with Sean Malone (bass), and joining the band in the studio is newcomer Tymon Kruidenier (guitars/growls). The band recorded the effort at a California studio with producer Warren Riker (DOWN, SANTANA).
Commented Masvidal: "We're thrilled to share the new CYNIC alien seedling with the world. I trust that this magical plant will be watered well and tended to. The roots are intact, now the branches get to soar high into the sky and provide shade for those of us stressed about current weather conditions. We've all been on this journey together. It's time we tell a new story. One of my favorite thinkers Ralph Waldo Emerson said: 'We live amid surfaces, and the true art is to skate well on them'. Well it's time, we let the dance begin!"
CYNIC will be direct support slot on the OPETH European trek in November/December. The band has also been announced as the headliner for this year's ProgPower Europe festival, and will be playing a special extended set at the show. A U.S. tour will follow in early 2009.

..well, we still have mastering to do, which is a critical last step, but everything is where it needs to be. We're really excited to share this new collection of songs with you. It's an honest record, and a really enjoyable listening experience. Takes you on a journey into the center of your heart and mind. Many moods and colors to occupy the sonic landscapes. It feels like Cynic! All I ask is that you surrender and allow. All you really need to do is show up with open ears. The music will do the work for you. I promise. xo pm

Current mood: warm
Hello friends,
Reinert and I have spent the past two weeks locked up in a studio in Glendale, California laying down drums and guitars for the new record. It's been a beautifully intense and focused state of nowness. Sean spent the first week cutting drums, and as of last week, I've recorded a symphony of guitar parts that were demo'd over the past year. These vibrant little song embryos have been through 4 stages of pre-production and now their nervous systems are manifesting along with their hearts and minds in their fifth and final stage of conception. Never imagined it would come together so unruffled (unlike 'Focus'), but in reflection I realize that Reinert and I have been living inside the millions of details of this record - every day for over 9 months - with no days off - and no desire for one! Sean Malone arrives next week to lay down bass and stick, then the following week Tymon arrives for some growls and more guitars. I feel more alive and certain than ever that we have captured the magic we've been seeking in these recordings. We'll just keep surrendering to the process and letting it all unfold as it should. Thankfully Warren our mixer/engineer is right on the page and understands exactly where we're at. Our collective energies are pulsating like one massive ball of fire! I'm grateful and thankful that we've received so much love and support from you, the supporters of Cynic. There's a piece of each of you in these little alien babies and they won't really start breathing until you hear them. We all get to participate in their life.
May you find peace in the breathe wherever you are.
Paul
