DEMO SONGS UP! |
hey there!!! so i was looking through some burnt cds with no titles on them and stuff and giving them a listen and found some cool(well....at least I THINK it's cool) 4 track stuff and some demo stuff. so decided for the hell of it to post some of this stuff-right now there is a demo unmixed version, music only, of a song called "DAYS SEEM WASTED" that we recorded not too long ago actually. we were going to finish it but decided not to put vocals on it because we ended up shortening it down to a more reasonable length. it would have been pretty cool i think-check it out-Express has some pretty rad BOSTON-ESQUE style guitars in there-i think he was listening to "DON'T LOOK BACK" on repeat when we recorded this.....and then i put up the last song i wrote for the band-called "OLD MILWAUKEE" about, well, wisconsin in general and wanting to get back those cool years when Joel and i used to live there and cruise around in his 67' nova. like i say in the song though "it's ain't over"......if i do another power pop band this is the first song i'm gonna introduce-without all of the off key vocals and wrong notes of course on the instruments. keep in mind it has no back up vocals-which makes it sound a bit incomplete-especially in the chorus-but i will say we worked them out and had we recorded that one i think it could've been one of the best....more weird demo stuff to come if you still care check it out!! | ..>

Current mood: sick
hey even though we're broken up we can still get reviews! this one i just saw and it blew my mind...
http://www.spacecityrock.com/reviews/rev-0407.shtmljenniferecho1
p.s. i'm sending everyone their cd's this weekend-promise!!!
Where in the hell did this come from? (Okay, apparently from Portland, and from the ashes of Wisconsin pop-punkers Ben Grim, but you get my meaning.) Get past the goofy cover art concept (i.e., making fun of cheesy "learn to rock!" guitar instruction books), and what you've got in The Jennifer Echo's Be Dangerous on Rock Guitar is possibly the most diamond-like, tightly compacted, brilliant gem of power pop I've heard in years.
Musically, there're echoes of everybody who's anybody in the realm of power pop/rock, from Cheap Trick and Big Star on through to the much-maligned Doughboys, The Stereo, and Semisonic (especially on the vocals). Every song on here combines beautiful, sweetly-sung harmonies, catchy choruses, bombastic guitars (with just a hint of hair-metal sheen showing through), earnestly sincere lyrics, and retro-sounding keys/synths, and the result is utterly amazing.
The detailed rundown: "The Last Disaster" comes off defiant and rocking, with keyboard melodies the Rentals would kill to have thought up; "There's A Halo" is darker and a little melancholy while remaining unrepentantly poppy (and heck, I don't even mind the occasional klunky lyric); "The Feeling" is the closest the Jennifer Echo gets to emo, with its pleading vocals and pretty guitar lines, like Jimmy Eat World covering the Gin Blossoms; and "Edna Avenue" is the album's crowning moment, an anti-ode to the historical landscape of a failed relationship with a chorus so simple and arrestingly catchy it makes my jaw drop.
Be Dangerous on Rock Guitar is like eating candy (really good candy, actually): no matter how many times I listen, I want to hear it all again (the EP clocks in at 14:03, by the way, which makes that part easier), and no matter how loud I turn it up, I still want it louder. More, please. (Jeremy Hart // 04/17/07)

Current mood: depressed
i was seriously bummed to hear the news this weekend-they are a huge influence on us....i've been playing "DON'T LOOK BACK" all weekend and wearing my 1976 BOSTON belt buckle.....
Brad Delp, the lead singer for Boston whose high-pitched wail is instantly recognizable on classic rock radio, was found dead at his home in Atkinson, N.H. He was 55.
Atkinson police responded to a call for help at 1:20 p.m. Friday and found Delp's body. Police Lt. William Baldwin said the death was "untimely" and that there was no indication of foul play.
Delp apparently was alone when he died, Baldwin said.
The cause of death remained under investigation by the Atkinson police and the New Hampshire Medical Examiner's office. Police said an incident report would not be available until today.
Driven by the processed but catchy lead guitar work of Tom Scholz, Boston has sold more than 30 million albums. The band rocketed to fame with its self-titled 1976 debut, which became the fasting-selling debut in rock history; spawned a number of radio evergreens, including "More Than a Feeling" and "Peace of Mind"; and has sold more than 17 million copies, tied for 11th all-time in the U.S.
Boston's 1978 follow-up, "Don't Look Back," was No. 1 for seven weeks and has been certified seven times platinum. After that, though, the band went on extended hiatus, returning with Delp and Scholz as the sole original members for the 1986 album "Third Stage," which spawned Boston's only No. 1 single, "Amanda."
Delp left the group in 1990, but rejoined for a tour to support its 1994 album "Walk On." While away from the band, Delp teamed with ex-Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau in a new band called RTZ. He also worked on Goudreau's 1980 solo album and mid-'80s band Orion the Hunter, which had an FM hit with "So You Ran." The singer also sang on a Keith Emerson album and on a few tracks on Boston's 2002 effort "Corporate America."
In recent years, Delp fronted Beatlejuice, a Boston-area Beatles cover band.

We're super pumped! check out the review we just got in the march issue of MAXIMUMROCKNROLL!! PLUS we're in MMR reviewer, Ray Lujan's TOP 10 this month!
from MRR #286
THE JENNIFER ECHO-"Be Dangerous on Rock Guitar" CD Fuckin' A!!! From the remains of the lesser known yet still great pop punk band BEN GRIM from the '90s comes this killer power pop band. Touches of the pop greatness of the DESCENDENTS and the DOUGHBOYS still remain. Also the spirit of Wiz (RIP) of MEGA CITY FOUR lives on in these bands that were influenced by him in the melodic hey days of the '90s. A great four-song EP with hopefully more to follow soon.(RL)
