Artworks created by musicians based on Rankin’s iconic portraits are on sale until Saturday 21st November. 3 Days of bidding left!

For Youth Music’s 10th Anniversary musicians photographed by Rankin were asked to create an original piece of artwork based on one of his iconic portraits.

Two years in the making, the Destroy / Rankin project involves over 70 musicians and visual artist including Alex James, Sophie Ellis-Bexter, The Hours, Tricky, Natasha Bedingfield, Florence and the Machine, Cagedbaby, Carl Barat, Andre 3000 and many others.
 
Asked to ‘destroy’ the photographs, the artists have a created a portfolio of deeply personal reflections on their images, with submissions ranging from paintings and drawings to video and collage making up a unique body of collaborative art.
 
The work will be on show at Phillips De Pury London, for free, between 9th  - 21st November 2009. Collectors can bid online for the framed work until 6.01pm on Saturday the 21st November.
 
The Destroy / Rankin book is on sale via the website, and contains five especially commissioned essays on the relationship between art and music by the destroy artists and key cultural commentators, including Michael Stipe, Jefferson Hack, Mike Figgis, Marianne Faithfull, Jarvis Cocker, Peter Saville, Beth Ditto, Miranda Sawyer, Rankin and Damien Hirst.
 
The eBay auction will raise money for Youth Music, the UK’s largest music charity for young people.

Had a great last week, Razmatazz Barcelona, then Space Terrace for We Love on Sunday  and Pacha Ibiza last Wednesday and thanks to Belfast and Black Rabbit on Saturday.  I'm playing in Sunderland this weekend at The Milk Club @ Bar Pure, never been before so look forward to bringing the set up to their City!

i'm gearing up for my favorite gigs this weekend, firstly The Loft Razmatazz in Barcelona on Saturday then playing Space Terrace for We love in Ibiza on Sunday and staying on the Island to play Pacha next Wednesday celebrating the pre-release of my Live @ Pacha Compilation. I've made a load of Ibiza edits for my shows and have a brand spanking set ready to be whipped and tripped.

A lot of friends are out for this and i can't wait to see everyone. Thanks to Centro and Rocking Heads in London on Saturday for a great party!

Just finished the Cagedbaby mix of Circus - APDW feat CBaby! I think its the best thing i've done for a while and will be spinning this all summer.

We have the new single 'Medicine' ready to GO!, Hope to see you at a gig very soon and i will give you news on the next release shortly.

Its all going a bit disco here, not a bad thing.  Its good to get my keyboards out and start playing.

i've been writing a lot of music for my Ibiza DJ gigs this Summer getting the beach vybe fully railed. i'm playing my favourite clubs this month so check the dates below and come out to dance.

The 2nd Cagedbaby single will be released very soon on Southern Fried Records; very different to 'Forced' it goes back to my roots symphonically and the remix
package is sublime including Radioslave, APDW and G.E.R.M mixes, more news on that to follow. The new album is completed and will be relased later this year on Southern Fried.

I have just mixed the latest Pacha Compilation for Pacha Ibiza to coincide with my residency this this Summer, released shortly it features 3 exclusive Cagedbaby remixes plus 1 Original baby track: a collaboration with my good friend and Pacha resident Sarah Main, more on that and news of the single release date in next months newsletter.

I have also been doing a few collaborations vocally something i dont normally do, firstly for Analog People in a Digital World (Rose Rouge) for their new single and with Way Out West contributing to their new album.

Cagedbaby - Forced

So my new single Forced is released on April 27th on Southern Fried Records,  yes thats the legendary label set up by Fatboy Slim that now has a mental roster on it from The Crookers, The Whip, Black Ghosts, Armand Van Helden & Shinichi Osawa....yes its a party label.

Forced  is the first track to be taken off my long overdue  2nd album and it feels great to have a record out there.  We made a Video last month with Scubaboy who is upcoming director of the moment. It's stop frame and he put his soul into it so I hope you like it as much as I do. His career was launched after winning a competition to do the last Unkle video - nice! The video for Forced is a love story between me (a Victorian ringmaster) and one of my freaks, horizontal girl and was great fun to make and a bit different to the sexy girls jiggling their bits that everyone seems to go for these days.  The idea came from my lady who built me a montage and it developed till there I was at 'Angels' costumiers in London trying on outfits trying not to look too much like Jack the Ripper.
   
The Single is getting a lot of love.  I'm overjoyed by the reception we are getting,  cool cuts chart number 4,  buzz chart , hype machine playlist etc..  all means that someone likes it. We've had lots of plays on Radio 1 and other specialist stations and every gig i play one of the mixes will be dropped somewhere in the night by some Dj which is always nice to hear. I picked my dream team to remix the track and they all accepted, so there's a Dave Spoon mix,  Idiotproof mix,  Don Diablo Mix, Foamo mix and Streetlife Dj's mix.   Every mix is very different to the next so there's something for everyone to get into.

We are very lucky to have a myspace exclusive on the video and i cant wait for people to see it.  I sent a few of the remixes out to the blogs and went to number 1 on hype machine and number 1 on most popular artist, which means a lot of people have heard it and left positive reviews,

So what else am i doing?  Well i continue to Dj every weekend all over the place and the parties are getting bigger and better. I dj'd in an igloo last week in Austria 2000 metres up a mountain and it made The Sun. I'm playing Space Ibiza again this summer, going to Japan next month, playing the main stage at Rockness and playing Bestival as well as my residency in Razmatazz in Barcelona, one of my favourite clubs. I was asked to play at Trash city in Glastonbury (probably the most surreal gig in the world) again this year sadly but i cant make it.  Anyones whos seen me knows i put a lot into my shows, i get asked when am i playing live again,  it will happen when the album is out and it will be special, but for now come and see a dj show. 

I did a dj mix last month which i sent out and thats had over 2000 downloads so far if you missed it you can still get it here HERE , as well as being aired on various radios shows and podcasts internationally.  Should have another one this week!

Is Gremlins the ultimate Christmas Movie? probably, Bad Santa comes close.

Happy Christmas everyone, Rave safe whatever you are doing. We had the shortest day of the year this week so that means summer is on its way....right?  Been a busy month in the studio, writing, producing, remixing and engineering all gearing up for the new year. Had a great gig last weekend at Couture in Glasgow,  great to see all my friends there. Thanks for the support Scotland I'm back up with you on the 27th at the Ice Factory in Perth, its an amazing lineup!
