Current mood:  crazy
In Slug Mag! slugmag.com

My interview with Xkot Toxsik, the patriarch of local label A Touch of Horror, was a bit untraditional, to say the least. Toxsik has a history of kidnapping SLUG writers prior to interviews or requiring secret passwords to gain access to his various projects. I knew I was in for something unusual.
"This is just a theatrical presentation, a show, which offers no reality," Toxsik bellowed at one of his performances from under a large black hat with the letters X and T covering his eyes. "Not a fraction of reality, which allows you and me to delve into our grossest fantasies. For if you are skeptical or bored, just pretend that what you see is real. I will now demonstrate a Cyclops autopsy." Toxsik continued the performance by removing portions of Baby Cyclops' (who plays keyboards in God Star Experience) brain, intestines and heart. This type of over-the-top performance art is just a taste of what The Art Faux Variety Show will showcase.
The variety show has been in the works for over a year and will feature six colorful acts that have all released music through Toxsik's label. Many of the bands playing the Variety Show are making their first ever appearance or haven't performed in over a year. The night will start with Baby Bam Bam Bumkin, a talking hermaphrodite baby who gained fame through YouTube. Bumkin will be introducing the various acts and performing a few songs from his debut album, The Mouth. DaiZsaVoo, a retro synth-pop band that Toxsik was involved with in high school, will be reuniting for the show.
"That group hasn't been together since the 80s. When [SLUG] called and requested we play, I just laughed," Toxsik says. Luckily, all of the former members were excited about the reunion and are updating many of their songs for the show.
The Electric Pubes will perform next. It will be their first performance in about a year, but something memorable always seems to occur at their shows. "The Electric Pubes are a crass act. It's about being a shock band," Toxsik says. The Pubes are notorious for throwing novelty turds at the crowd, smashing bananas on their faces and fondling plush penises that are attached to their eccentric costumes. When they performed at last year's Holiday Stroll, Thomas S. Monson actually stopped by while picking up his dry cleaning at Henrie's. "He got a pretty decent eyeful, but I don't think he stayed for the whole show," Toxsik says.
Toxsik's mystic Mormon group known as the LOA Mormons (short for Latter Day Order Ahman) will perform an initiation to their church next. "This is your chance to become Mormon," Toxsik says, "and you don't have to worry about any of the current politics. The LOA accepts gay marriage. There're no hang-ups. [The LOA] just wants everyone to become their own gods and goddesses." The raunchy disco-pop act known as Ice Cherry will perform after the LOA initiation. This project contains one ridiculously femmedout member known as Britney Bitch. The Godstar Experience, who has more of a rock n' roll influence, will close the variety show. Although the multiple acts performing in the show have distinct differences, Toxsik summarizes the night by stating that it will be a bit like "GG Allen meets Showbiz Pizza."
Although Toxsik's projects typically play all-ages venues, he's excited for the change of pace.
"I think it will go good. A little bit of liquor will loosen things up a bit," he says. Tanner Bray of Digital Lov agrees: "[Toxsik's] antics on stage go well with us being drunk."

Digital Lov, Xkot Toxsik's Variety Show and DJ Justin Strange will perform Localized at the Urban Lounge Jan. 9. Chuck some empty beer cans at the stage, have some plush poop tossed at you and enjoy yourself.

Rippyfest Interview With Godstar Experience! rippyfest.com/godstar

When Godstar Experience first landed on Rippyfest, I didn't even know what to make of them. I knew ..Thunder:Perfect Mind.. was a hit with everyone and I loved it too. Then they started posting more pictures. I thought to myself ..what a bunch of weirdoes, I love it... I talked to one of the members on Rippyfest and joked about going to strip clubs. I ended up meeting her in person at a Gundhi show at Brewski's and we ended up at the strip club, coincidence, I think not. Godstar Experience reminds me of some of my favorite old school industrial/goth bands like Sisters of Mercy and KMFDM. The whole band actually dresses up when they perform. They even have a bunch of friends wearing crazy costumes that dance around on the stage while they play. Sounds like a GWAR show in the making. I think what we have here is a revolutionary gothic hybrid invasion from Kolob..that's in Jerusalem right? We sent an email to the members of this band with all of our questions. The members are Xkot Toxsik, JJ Falcon, Hell, Squidhead, Baurak Gazelam Ale, and don't forget the dancers and other contirbuters like Horseflesh, Tranny Power Girl, Candyass T-N-T, and Baph-O-Morph . They got back to us with great answers and cautionary advice about their band. Prepare to visit the world of Godstar Experience.

Baurak: Let's just start by saying you're lucky we are conducting this interview over the e-waves.

Xkot: Yeah! You saved yourself a lot of torment and trouble by doing this on line. We usually don't make these exchanges very comfortable for people.

Baurak: An interview we had with Slug Magazine consisted of Xkot, JJ, and Baph-O-Morph, blindfolding and abducting the person that was suppose to interview us.
Taking her to a hidden location, we took off her blindfold and had her observe as Xkot performed a surgical exorcism on Horseflesh's neck because she was growing a demonic parasitic twin.

Xkot: It was a big gross out, the band played while I operated on Horseflesh, in fact I think our interviewer ended up with a stigmata scar on her neck from the whole thing.

Baurak: I saw the scar on her neck. Her name is Camilla Suicide Taylor. It's funny I went with her to a gathering once, and a Band she wrote about in Slug was there. They wanted to beat her up because they didn't like what she said about them in the magazine. Ha-ha the life of a journalist can be a dangerous one.

Xkot: We usually make people go to secret location, give us passwords and such. Another magazine reporter was saying, how years of interview protocol were pushed aside when she was phoned hours prior to meeting, and told she would need a secret password to gain entry to our meeting spot. She wished she had brought along back up. Doing this over the Internet actually makes it much easier for us.

Rippyfest: When and how did the band form?

Xkot: Well, CaptainClark23 and I started working with the ethers back in 1999 (Pseudo Christ), the turn of the century brought forth our first creation the album Kolob 2001 (P.C.) then the Captain wanted to sail outer universes. So I stared working with dimensional energies and one morning Horseflesh, Baurak and I opened a bridge through time and space via Ensign peak in salt lake city 2003. This portal opening put me into contact with the other members of the Godstar Guild.

Hell: JJ and I crossed paths while traveling between universes about 5 light-years ago. I hadn't seen him for quite a while until a few years ago when he started hanging out with my friend Squidhead. They invited me to a party out on Mars one night and I met their friends Xkot, Baby Cyclops, and Horseflesh. Xkot wanted to pull together this music he'd been conjuring up. He knew JJ played guitar, and then found out I played bass... So I listened to some of the stuff Xkot had written and I was really into it. I guess it's all history from there.

JJ: Definitely fate, in a place beyond time.

Rippyfest: How would you label your brand of music?

Baurak: Every artist's favorite question...

JJ: rock and / or roll.

Hell: Cosmic dance rock with some sixes thrown in.

Xkot: Electric sci-fi acid-crash horror slash. Ha-ha

Master Mahan: Rararhaa Yeuuwa Aww achaa.
(Laughter all around)

Rippyfest: Do you have plans to begin gigging regularly?

JJ: if by "gigging" you mean "roadshows"

Xkot: We are currently touring the Pleiades and Sirius B. We need to get back to playing the eye and the beehive some time soon. I do art crashes sometimes and perform autopsies on Baby Cyclops at gallery strolls and other events.

Hell: Yes, we will be playing Club Vortex at Jeff Hacker's night for Halloween. Ha, just kidding, I don't know the answer to this question.

Xkot: Ha-ha every day is Halloween. No more Samhain shows Ha-ha

Baurak: Coming to Planet Earth Sometime Soon! Not on Kolob time I hope. (Laughs) A thousand years is One day in the Kolob star system! It has been about a year since the last show (on Halloween)

Rippyfest: What are you going to do now that you have won the Rippyfest.com contest? (Go to Disneyland is not an acceptable answer)

Xkot: Nor is it to us! Disney is one of the true evils on this planet! Don't let your children near that stuff! That's one of the reasons we started Godstar. To save the kiddies from stuff like that! Give the people some truth!

Hell: Go to Disneyworld, and keep jammin of course.

Xkot: No Disney anything!

JJ: continue fighting the endless battle for power and glory, for all eternity.

Master Mahan: Ahhrrr errawaa rraahhhaa!

Rippyfest: Please list the names (not your earthly slave names), command posts and intergalactic musical duties of each members.

Xkot: I'm Xkot Toxsik Master of Ceremonies (vocals). I specialize in Psychic lobotomies, Sorcery, Bloodlettings and other such Barbary, Alien Autopsies and the ilk.

JJ: From the eye and beyond I Galactic Barbarian JJ Falcon am from asteroid B283. I command the phonic and atmospheric aethers with my thug slaying Electric Battle Axe and Dragon Armor. I give the band a steady diet of young flesh to feed upon.

Hell: I am the Mistress of Darkness and the Daughter of Light, the lust child of Lucifer and the last unicorn, sent to Earth to oversee the 72 spirits of the subatomic. I lure to infernal hypnosis and eternal light with the necromantic powers of my alicorn.

Squidhead: Shreekkee kaka eahhh!

Baurak: Humanity knows me as Baurak Gazelam Ale; I help manage Godstar Experience and am Prophet, Seer and Revelator of the Mormons (The Latter-day Order of Ahman, Guild of the First Born and the Bornless One)

Xkot: Horseflesh is our Phoenix based Go-go dancer extreme! And there is Tranny Power Girl, Candyass T-N-T, and her/his slave boys they are our first-rate exotic entertainers from seedy sin city. Baph-O-Morph aka St.Even, songwriter for the erasure tribute band eraser/usa. He has powered the Experience with our tonal ship of illumination, on such songs as Thunder : Perfect Mind, and Black light White heat! Helping us waste alpha dinosaurs and their demonic power over the Galaxy with our stomp crush sound.

Master Mahan: Raerrr arrrarrahah!

Xkot: Mahan says he is the MASTER OF THE GREAT SECRET!

Master Mahan: Wahhh wahh rarerrr!

Xkot: Oh yeah, thanks Master M, and who could forget the one-eyed demon ape named Baby Cyclops! She blesses the GXE with her Yeti gifts of love and party antics.

Rippyfest: Do you have other songs recorded besides the three on Rippyfest?

Hell: Mayybe

Xkot: There are some post Kolob songs on the ..popular teenage site.. myspace.com/godstar and the album Kolob has 11 tracks you can get through me or purchase on slctunes.com.

Rippyfest: Is there anything you really want people to know about your band? Upcoming shows, album releases, contact info etc?

JJ: I want people to know this: BEWARE OF THE EYE.

Xkot: For a good time Experience Godstar!

Hell: We think you should come rock out with us and drink some local micro-brews.

Baurak: You can also contact or check out the band further through: myspace.com/godstar
