First City Festival in Leavenworth... hope to see you there! LIVE JAZZ OPPORTUNITY REMINDER: Metro Big Band has a concert on Thursday evening from 6-8pm to open up the First City Festival in Leavenworth...

The program is going to be progressive journey using music that will also to the history of the Leavenworth community too. I get to play lead alto with this group that is led by Mr. Bob Cowan, a great trombonist, who is also the former owner of the Tune Shop!

And, Chris Burnett Quartet (Chris Burnett, alto saxophone; TJ Martley, piano; Jonathan Tennant, bass; and, Tyree Johnson, drums) will be performing the first set of Jazz at Haymarket Square on Friday 6pm...

I purposely put together a young group of great musicians for this gig. My motivation was based upon the fact that I have an opportunity to teach so many local Leavenworth area instrumental music students woodwinds privately each week. I thought such a situation could not only be a great chance to play jazz with a professional ensemble here, but also another encouraging situation for the students to see and hear folks near their own age who perform at a very high level in this context. Please help spread the word... THANKS! First City Festival in Leavenworth... hope to see you there!

Words and Music by Chris Burnett
Verse 1:
Sometimes we look at our own future …
Through the heart with eyes that no longer can see, oh …
Verse 2:
Sometimes we make up our own reasons …
Through a head without sense for pure fantasy, oh …
Verse 3:
Providence tells us just don’t worry …
Through the stone our days are just what they should be, oh …
Chorus:
Prov – i -dence, oh it’s just …
Prov – i -dence, oh …
“Providence” was written for, and is to premiere at, the 2009 One By One Concert. The "One By One" concert series is fund-raising event that is produced each year in Kansas City by vocalist, Toni Gates.

VIVENDIQUOTE

MP3.COM was the first major online music distribution site in the world (before MySpace, Facebook, iTunes and AmazonMP3) and existed as a place where independent musicians could reach a global audience from 1996-2003. Joining the site in late 1999, the music from Chris Burnett's debut CD, "Time Flies", was ultimately downloaded 509,862 times by visitors and fans from around the world using the Internet.

MP3.com's artists program became a casualty to its legal problems in other areas and ceased operations in December of 2003, but encouraged artists to keep documentation of their successes distributing music in this new age.

ONLINE MUSIC HISTORY: This is a website screen capture picture of the actual Chris Burnett artist page at the old MP3.COM site.  Here is the historically preserved artist page from Archive.org...

... because I simply have too much music that there is no other way to do it than this. The type music that I make requires a professional studio, professional mastering, and professional talent - no way around it.

So, after 10 years of marketing and promoting online and 20,000+ "fans" on my lists, this approach seems logical. I don't even need all 20,000 to participate in this microfinancing type of approach to producing and selling a CD.

Check it out HERE and let me know what you think, if you don't mind...

Of course, feel free to participate if you think it's a cool idea and tell a friend as well...

Thanks!

Peace, Cb

Microfundo project - http://microfundo.mymondomix.com/ChrisBurnett
 -----
Here's something relatively new that I am trying where recording new CDs are concerned. It is through an international organization called, Microfundo. This concept actually reminds me a bit of the successful ArtistShare model...

So, the concept isn't totally new, but having the availability of this type of microfinancing resource available to any musician/composer for free is new. Considering the paradigm of the new music industry (particularly for creative non-commercial projects), I put a project up to see if anything will come of it...

Cb Microfundo Project

PART I - Professional Recording Studio Time of Chris Burnett Full-Length CD Project: Recording/Tracking of original music compositions and the musician performances at a real professional studio facility in Kansas City or New York City.

What is Microfundo?

Microfundo is providing microfinancing support for international musicians. Anyone can choose an artist with a microfunding campaign and lend them $25. Over the course of the next year you get your money back. Plus you receive updates, and free songs and participate in the artist's creative process.

If this is successful, there will be PART II and PART III...

Thanks for your time today.

Peace, Cb

PM Records joins ARC; SEQ Tour; Initiation CD release date; ARC Membership Roster Update...

PM Records joins ARC

In 1972 jazz bassist Gene Perla created the P. M. Records recording company. While both performing with master percussionist Elvin Jones, saxophonist David Liebman mentioned to Gene that he was having difficulty finding a company to release his new Open Sky project. In a quick decision Gene started the PM Records label which succeeded in releasing its first LP of that Open Sky live concert. The company has gone on to produce more than 30 recordings.

PM has artists on its label ranging from world renowned drummer
Elvin Jones to the hip Canadian vocal group Bug Alley. Today PM continues to flourish as a small independent label. The majority of new projects are produced at the company's multi-media studio The System MSP (Music, Sound & Picture) located in Easton, Pennsylvania. Through the use of its modern technology PM provides re-releases of its entire catalog in CD and digital MP3 formats. All formats are available for purchase at the PM Store.

The company also provides outlets for self-produced artists through its affiliated labels Plug Records (www.PlugRecords.Org) and Booty Records (www.BootyRecords.com). PM holds its place as one of the great independent labels which continues to create some of the best music for jazz listeners.
