I've come to realise recently, in these tough times we all
living in at the mo', that the one thing that remains a constant in my life
throughout all the ups n' downs of chaos, is MUSIC - & namely the music I'm involved in.
If you wanna get
inside my head for a while, listen to ALL the songs I've put up on the GuySpace
player.
Each song has a part of me that's true love, whether it's
the out & out raging hardcore of DOOMDAY,
the heart-wrenching acoustic vibe
of CONSPIRATORS (Honour of a Bird),
the Punk-Pop blast of TAT, Classic-Rocking of GMT, the
Shuffle-Billy Skank from SWANS IN FLIGHT,
or Acoustic Street-Punk of BILLY LIAR,
I love it ALL!!
Each band I work with, I try to help 'bring out the best'
they have, & in doing so, it brings out the best in me.
Each project is a learning curve, & a challenge - no
matter how simple or complicated it seems on the surface!
(I once, albeit initially, turned down a chance to work
with MARTIN GRECH, as I thought it'd be 'too tricky to learn', but it turned out to be one of the most rewarding musical
ventures I've ever been involved in!)
Music to me is like food - you (hopefully) don't go
through life saying "I only eat chips",
or "I don't like sushi, even though I've
never tried it..." & similarly, I find it a shame when people go:
"Metal
rules, but Hip-Hop sucks" or "Hip-Hop rules, & Metal sucks" or "I listen to
EVERYTHING"
- when Blues, Folk or Hardcore would clearly send them
running!! Musical Racism I call it...
Whatever, you gotta have an open mind - in music and in
life, or else the blinkers are on.
I have stories-for-days about how 'failing an audition in
'96 led to playing Wembley Arena...8 years later!', or
~ 'saying yes to playing a cheesy wedding reggae gig
ended up with me rocking Reading Festival & recording the debut album of one
of the most important bands around today', or
~ how 'doing a session with AntiProduct put me in a band
with an ex-Ozzy Osbourne guitarist';
~ 'surviving 55 shows in 60 days in the US led to me playing
an 11-minute version of Shang-A-Lang with an original Bay City Roller...in
Preston(!!), and also recording with the guitarist from
Rancid...';
~ 'roadie-ing for the Robbie Williams backing band opened
doors to me playing with Faith No More on Top Of The Pops!' or
~ how 'taking my clothes off with SackTrick, paved the
way to a drum solo to 40,000 Germans, with the singer in the biggest metal band
in the world...'
So jump right in...&
things WILL happen...
Or the way I say it: 'Do Stuff, & stuff will happen.
Don't Do Stuff, & guaranteed - NO stuff will happen!!'
Not sure where I'm going with this, but I started off with
good intentions!
Anyways, Happy 1st Bloggette. I'd like to think I'll do
more now I'm rolling.
& ROCKING!
