most other social networking places at least seem to try to let you update your content
from somewhere else - ping.fm lets you post a blog onto facebook from ping.fm - a tweet can become a blog (or a note) on facebook. there are methods to take a rss feed from your own website and turn that feed into a blog/note on facebook.

Myspace doesn't let you do that. I hope they do, and soon. Until then, no blogs here.
I want to write something once and publish it everywhere.

There are methods to publish gig dates on myspace through artistdata.com
fill in your info on artistdata.com, and artistdata.com will send your gig dates to myspace, but also pollstar, jambase, and a ton of other online gig databases. If you're just doing myspace now, I don't think it's really a time saver, but you will be getting your message out to many more places for the same time spent.

So, myspace isn't completely uncooperative.

I got a new server for webmusicvideo.com, and all the old video which used to work, then didn't, now works again. Tell me if any of these
old videos don't work. I'll figure out what's up. Got a bunch of new video coming as well, and a complete redesign of the webmusicvideo site, but
the old site will still be available. The new webmusicvideo site will be cool. You should check it out, but not yet, although it's up and running
without most of the coolest features.

I dig this Snocap thing. You can grab the code of a band you like who has a snocap and sell their mp3s (Share this store). Just click on that share this store, the code pops up, and you can paste that code into your myspace.

In the future, i think, you'll be able to get a cut of the sales, by signing up with snocap yourself, and you can pick the songs you want to sell. For now, it's just the ability to paste the stores of bands, and you don't get a cut.

Buy stock in snocap.

Check out this video

and this video

They're youtube videos. one thing that i've found about youtube is that it does provide a small method for getting your stuff seen.

Most Linked - Music - Today, This Week, This Month.
It doesn't take a ton of links to get on that list. When you're on that list, you do get some random, curiousity hits. Both those 2 videos are currently on the most linked, music, this week list. I've found that after the first day, the video is off the today list, the first week, off the week list, the first month, off the month list. So, if you want to drive new random people to your video, be prepared to drive your myspace people to your youtube video as soon as your youtube video goes up.

Gig Swap w/ The Underwater.

The Underwater has 3 good dates they want to trade out.
11/22 - Wednesday - Day before Thanksgiving - Fletcher's in Baltimore (2 or 3 spots available)
11/24 - Friday - Day after Thankgiving - Gullifty's in Harrisburg (Camp Hill) (one or 2 spots available)
11/25 - Saturday - Murph's in York (one spot available)

The Feds from Dallas, TX are on all 3 of those dates. The Upwelling from NYC is
on some (all?) of those dates.

The Underwater draws between 200-300 in these markets.

The Underwater will consider a wide variety of dates for trade.

The Underwater has a good place to stay for 3-4 days.

11/3 in CT burbs would be good - they have NJ on thursday, and LI on saturday

The weekend 11/9-11/11 upstate NY, northern PA would be good. Looking for Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, Ithaca, Binghampton, Wilkes-Barre, Williamsport, Erie.

If you could line up 3 shows in upstate NY that weekend - maybe Buffalo, Syacuse, Albany, and bring up The Underwater, The Feds and The Upwelling, if you were good, you fit with the other bands, you drew pretty well, you could probably have all 3 of those shows if you wanted em.

The weekend 11/30-12/2 new england would be good upstate NY, northern PA would be good. Looking for Boston, maybe Portland, Providence, Hartford, Northampton.

If you could line up 3 shows in new england, maybe Boston, Providence, Hartford, and bring up The Underwater,
The Feds and The Upwelling, if you were good, you fit with the other bands, you drew pretty well,
you could probably have all 3 of those shows if you wanted em.

That's just the ideal situation. Pretty much anything interesting would be considered. If you're a really great band from outside the area, on tour,
and needing a good show, and can help The Underwater out later, that would be
great, because The Underwater really likes playing with great bands. The Underwater really likes networking with other bands, hanging out with, broing down
with, hanging at the Shady Dell with, so if you're into that too, that's i

Check out the links, you might be really interested when you hear how good all the bands are.

Ok, Here's how it works

1) Go Here

2) Post a topic on that message board forum stating what show you need an opener for

and/or

3) Respond to anothers post stating what show you can offer for the gig they are offering.

It appears that this concept is a difficult one to grasp, as I'm now getting a lot of myspace emails with the basic message of "yes, sign me up" or "yes, i want to play openers"

Some people here are coming close, by responding to this blog, but...

Just go to this message board - click here

The concept is a trade, a swap, an exchange.  Band a gives to band b an opener slot.  In exchange, in trade, in a swap, band b gives to band a an opener slot.

I don't think it's really all that difficult a concept.

CLICK HERE FOR GIG SWAP MESSAGE BOARD

Are you in a band and want a gig?  I know that many of my new band friends ask me if I can get them gigs.

Typically, I cannot, for various reasons, mostly that the venues that I have any degree of control over are looking primarily for proven results, and I've found that results come from proven bands, or proven people.  After the headliner slot is given to the headliner, it is typically then up to the headliner to choose the opening slots.  When I find a band that I personally like for whatever reason, i typically try to determine what headliners have what opening slots available, and often bands can be placed in that manner.

The issue of bands getting gigs in new markets is important to me.  I think it helps the fan, by providing new quality to them, as well as fans.

I'm not quite as concerned with finding gigs for new bands within their own market, when I do, its because I think they'll draw sufficiently right off the bat. Typically, those new bands will have someone in that band who is likely to draw.  Anyway.

The present system for bands, good bands, to get gigs in new markets isn't necessarily an efficient one.  Obviously, a tour is best, but there situations - less well known bands, smaller geographical area - that doesn't quite fit the tour model as well.  In Harrisburg, headliner bands often have control over the opening slots, and often make great decisions with those slots, bringing in great bands from out of town, and getting opener slots in those markets in return.  Not always, though.  Basically, from what I've been able to determine, it can be hard for bands to get something back for the gigs they're giving the out of town bands.

So, what to do?  I think it would benefit everyone to have a somewhat systematic gig swapping process.  What I think I'll be doing somewhat shortly is setting up some system where a band can say
"i have this specific opener slot, with specific conditions, what specifically will you give me for it?" and people can reply "i will give you this specific opener slot for that specific slot you mentioned"  The first band could then read those replies hammer out the deal with the second band.

More than half of my myspace friends here are PA Music, so, with that group, and with other music throughout the states i think it could work ok if people participated.

I've been thinking about this for a while,  and I've held off doing anything concrete with it until there were some gigs that I could plug into the system.
Now there are, and pretty good ones too, definitely for Harrisburg.

Starting in April, and going until whenever, Wednesdays at Gullifty's parocks.com/gulliftys will be All Age / 21 to drink.   I'll start by booking the headliners, with an eye to their participation in this gigswap thingy.  I figure that I want the usual suspects, the bands I've been booking in to Gullifty's on the Wed / Thurs 21 nights.  I might add in a few of the top all age bands in the area.  After that, i'll announce the headliners and dates, and see what people will offer for the opening slots, then work with the headliners in light of how other bands have responded.

I haven't yet determined exactly how i'm going to do this, but my hope is that this could be a system that everyone could use, that people could be getting good value for their opening slots without me personally being involved.

For now, you can comment on this blog if you're interested.  I'll either blog again, or update this blog when I have further information.
