DOUR FESTIVAL 2009 - NGO Village
Under the impulse of promoter Carlo Di Antonio,
the Dour Festival has been home to an NGO village since 2005. This year
again NGO's and varied associations will try to create awareness about
subjects as varied as health prevention, political causes, humanitarian
questions or international cultural exchanges. Whatever your
aspirations, sensibility, curiosity or your political views, you will
always find something that touches you at the NGO village.
In 2009 we welcome 9 associations: OXFAM solidarité, PLAN BELGIQUE, RESISTANCE INTERNATIONALE, SEX&CO, WEP, FGTB, COMAC, MODUS VIVENDI and AIDE INFO SIDA.
To know more about each NGO, just visit our website: http://www.dourfestival.be/en/2009/villageasso
On the agenda: meetings, fun and games [ you can win presents too!].
Practical info:
Schedule: the NGO village is open every day at the start of the festival until midnight.
Location: In the middle of our market [ between the camping site entrance and the stages].

Current mood:GREEN & CLEAN
Hello everybody,
GO GREEN WITH THE DOUR FESTIVAL
Like every summer, The Dour Festival commits itself to respect and
protect its environment and give you the tools to do the same at your
personal level.
In 2009 we will give you more tools to keep the site cleaner and more comfortable to live in for you. As promoters we feel concerned by the issue, as festival goer, do you? You certainly should!
There are 3 clever and easy steps this year
Thanks to our partner Fost plus we implement the site with waste
sorting islands: The Eco-Zones. They will be all over the festival and
camping sites to help you sort your waste. Each type of rubbish has its
own coloured bin: BLUE for cans & plastics .... BLACK for other
waste. There is only one rule for you: respect the sorting colours!

You can get an extra bonus for having a conscience: The ECO CHANGE. Bring back 40
plastic cups or a 30L bin bag full of cans & plastics at the
Eco-Change zone situated at each bar on the site and you'll be rewarded
with a free drink ticket! How's that for a good deal? You keep the
environment clean, it doesn't cost you anything yet you get a little
extra for your involvement.
You can lower your carbon footprint by choosing public transports
to go to the festival. Another green way to travel is choosing the car
pooling option. Dour Festival and Karzoo are working together every
summer to ensure that a minimum of cars are used to come to Dour,
therefore lowering the carbon emissions. You can offer seats in your
vehicule or find some nice chaps to travel with in a couple of simple
clicks.
Cheap, easy and green, what more do you need?

Dour Festival does more for the environment
A green contract has been signed by the promoters and all the professionals and tradesmen linked to the festival.
A GREEN CROSS team is on site to ensure a spotless environment for all. Don't hesitate to give them a hand!
Bin Bags [ blue or black] are handed out for FREE by Green Cross
volunteers in our Eco Change zones situated in each bar. Never hesitate
to ask them what you need.
All the sorting rules are on our website and will be at various eco-zones to remind you how to sort your waste properly.
You are the ones who make the festival a good event or not, this at all levels so please think about your behaviour
Don't just drop your trash on the ground Don't leave waste behind you Use the bins scattered across the site or the bin bags left for your perusal
Help us keep our environment as clean and undamaged as possible. We are very grateful!

The line-up is now full but we still have a few surprises in store for
you. We’re happy to confirm the participation of a few more bands at
the festival this summer:
EPMD
One of the most important East Coast rap band will be at Dour this
year. Since the late 80s Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith have been
defining the underground hip hop sound in New York, gaining a few gold
records on the way. They brought funk and rock influences to their
heavy beats and coupled it with a straight and direct flow. After a
9-year break EPMD are back with a new album « We Mean Business » EPMD’s
rap holds no prisoners, it’s New York itself in rhymes and beats…It’s
the real deal!

Friendly Fires
Friendly Fires mix dance and pop with a knack for addictive melodies.
They also add touches of shoegazing and funk to their music to get us
all on the dance floors. After a string of successful singles like ‘On

their awaited first album in 2008 You can expect a live set full of

salivating, calling his effort ‘ unapologetically minimal with
sophisticated melodies, progressive layers of sound and jubilant beats’

Hello Everybody,
The programme for this year’s Dour festival continues to expand, bit by
bit. This time, we’re starting off with some «experimental,
rock‘n’roll» and ending up with a touch of «pop». 4-day tickets are
available for only Euro 85. A 1-day ticket costs just Euros 40.
For more information, see : http://ticketshop.dourfestival.be
Fuck Buttons, Richard Devine and Bogdan Racynski have each confirmed
one night of “experimental, noise, psychedelic, breakcore”, as part of
Animal Collective’s 90 minute upbeat mega show.
Animal Collective will play a 90 minute upbeat mega show in a
marquee on Friday night. Three new names have been added to this night
of experimental sounds. Fuck Buttons
experimental-electro pop psychédélique noise

Fuck Buttons is an electro/noise duo from Bristol, one of the most
prolific cities for music produced today. Their influences are diverse
and vary from noise to pop, cacophonic to melodic. Long tracks “like
the sun rising over the ocean…then going supernova”, as described by
Pitchfork. An unmissable experience to keep you uplifted after the
1:30am show, just before Animal Collective… More info ...
Richard Devine
idm electro

Richard Devine is one who has often been described on the electronic
scene as the American Aphex Twin. This influential producer and
musician brings us heavily mastered, chaotic breaks, generally based on
a mechanical, factory universe. His frenetic clicks are monumental to
hard tech music, producing tracks with rich ideas and different sounds.
More info ...
Bogdan Raczynski
breakcore experimental-electro

Young Polish prodigy specialising in electro music since 1995, Bogdan
Raczynski was quickly spotted by Aphex Twin, which got him recording
his debut albums on the Rephlex label. His music is as chaotic as his
life (he grew up in Poland, the US, Japan and the UK) and he is sure to
remind some of Squarepusher. The ultra-elaborate, frenetic and epileptic beats rarely drop
below 200 bpm. Infantile melodies and apocalyptic breaks also feature
in his musical compositions. His talents have him singing in English,
Japanese and Polish. His last album, Alright! brought him big success! More info ...
True Rock’n’Roll attitude is coming to Dour this summer: Monotonix and The Death Set brings even more madness to the programme
Monotonix
Rock Experimental-rock psychédélique

Rock’n’Roll attitude? Monotonix! 2008 saw the real birth of true madness.
Monotonix is a trio of Israelians, made up of one voice, one guitar and
a drum. Their show is a mix of rock, pagan rituals, wild nudity,
strange riffs and above all, decadence. Proof that rock can make people
invincible! Without a doubt THE concert to kick off the Dour festival
with a bang! More info ...
The Death Set
electro punk experimental-electro

From Australia to the US. The Death Set is energy, speed with a touch
of craziness. You could say this combo was born to play at Dour, with a
punk attitude, they produce electro, hip hip style. Britain’s NME
magazine named them “the number 1 biggest hope of the future”. This
will make your mouth water! Yeah, jump around! More info ...
And to put a bring a bit of sweetness to the world, we’ve invited New York’s Au Revoir Simone
Au Revoir Simone
electro pop synthpop

With a passion for keyboards, the three New Yorkers, discovered by
London label Moshi Moshi, produce a refreshing, 100% synthesized,
minimalist electro pop sound. It’s beautiful, melancholic, soft and it
puts you on a high. It’s as light as can be… A continuous journey
through their enchanting music. Let yourself enter their world in which
you will be sure to enjoy your trip
