What our fans are saying…

“Hey! My friends and I were sitting next to you guys on the hill at Bliss Fest the last night where you gave us a CD. Just wanted to tell you we listened to it on the way home 3 times. We all really dig your sound. Keep up the good work! Come play in Toledo some time.” ~Angela

Hey, saw you guys at Bliss, listened to your music on the way home. You guys are some solid talent and I loved the sound. Next show you guys have in the Lansing area, hit me up and I'll bring my group. I'll spread the word and your jams. :]]” ~Sydney

“The only down side of this 4-track album is that it’s too short! All of the songs show mature, thoughtful lyricism, blended perfectly
with catchy, pop-driven song style and amazing chemistry. The harmonies of “Don’t Forget That You Love Me” are as smooth and
rich as the lyrics of “Alarm is Set” are endearing and imaginative. The texture of “Lack of Sleep” is unforgettable and “Go For A Ride” will be stuck in your head for the better part of the evening drive home late at night. This is the perfect summer album, and is filled with as much warmth and spirit as could possibly be packed into four songs. Each bittersweet note leaves a warm feeling of hope, drizzled with a sweet longing. Simply put, this album is a must for people who like being happy!” ~
Dr. Neptune (iTunes Review)

“Its refreshing to see two artist so focused on the music lyrical content rather than the other garabage involved with the music industry. I would recommend you pick this album up.” ~Nate Smith (iTunes Review)

“Don’t’ Forget That I Love you is one of the catchiest songs I have heard in a long time. I am surprised it is not on the radio yet.” ~Sterling Heights Fan (iTunes Review)

Local Acoustic Duo Selected
to Perform at the 2009 Ann Arbor Summer Festival
Sterling Heights, MI - The Ann Arbor Summer Festival is excited to add Sunny Side Up to its’ list of talented young musicians performing on The Grassrootz Stage this year. Sunny Side Up is an acoustic duo from Sterling Heights, Michigan, featuring Melissa Tarter and Jack Wells. The band was selected from an extensive submission process competing against both local and out of state groups for this featured performance.
“The July 4th Grassrootz Stage will be specifically showcasing the crème de la crème of the many independent artists who submitted their materials for consideration at this year's festival,” said Jeff May, Production Intern for the Grassrootz Stage. The Grassrootz Stage is an emerging artist space specifically designed to showcase fresh, local talent. This intimate, unplugged space will feature an eclectic mix of homegrown artists in a family-friendly environment.
“We are excited to have been selected for the festival and to have the opportunity to showcase our music,” said Tarter. “As singer/songwriters, the opportunity to perform at such a visible event is an honor,” added Wells.
This young, dynamic, acoustic-driven duo combined forces as Sunny Side Up in 2008, creating their own unique Indie-Pop sound performing original music falling somewhere between Jason Mraz and Ingrid Michaelson. The duo has played at a variety of venues all over Michigan performing their own original music as well as a small mixture of covers with their own twist. In May 2009, Sunny Side Up was selected as Indiemusic.com’s Editors Pick of the Month and they currently hold and control the #1 spot on the “Singer Songwriter Charts”. You can also hear Sunny Side Up on several popular internet radio stations like FM102x, RadioNY.org, Women of Substance Radio, RadioElectric.com, and MVYradio.com which is one of the most listened-to internet radio stations in the world.
The Ann Arbor Summer Festival runs from Friday, June 12 through Sunday, July 5, 2009 . Sunny Side Up is scheduled to perform on July 4th at 5:00p.m.on the Grassrootz Stage. For more information about the band visit www.myspace.com/sunnysideuponline
The Ann Arbor Summer Festival’s mission is to provide a widely accessible, high quality summer program representing a variety of the performing arts for the cultural enrichment and entertainment of a regional audience in a festive atmosphere. Started in 1983, the festival attracts more than 60,000 people each year from the local community and throughout Southeast Michigan . www.annarborsummerfestival.org

Review
When you think of Detroit music, chances are Motown comes immediately to mind. But if not Motown, then, perhaps, aggressive Iggy Pop or Bob Seger’s mainstream soul/country rock. Or, to choose a more contemporary example, there’s the blues power of The White Stripes. While those examples dredge up darker instances of human nature, Sunny Side Up, as its name implies, finds a few of the brighter silver linings in love, romance, and life.

Detroit is known for its amplified rock & roll, and even Motown would never be characterized as unplugged music. But this duo, comprised of John Wells and Melissa Tarter, mainly rely on acoustic guitar, lightly brushed drumming, and sunny vocal harmonies.

Of these four tracks, Tarter sings lead on three of them. The best of this four-song set is "Go For A Ride," which has a bit of blues infusing it. It swings a tad and features nice piano work at the song's end. There are also nice handclaps to boot.

"Don’t Forget That You Love Me" is distinctly jazzy and may remind you of early Everything But The Girl -- before that duo discovered electronic dance music. There is some sweet jazz guitar chording going on, and a cute, come hither vocal from Tarter.

Wells sings lead on the third track, "Lack of Sleep." This number has an upbeat rhythm and sounds similar to some of John Denver’s material in the 70s. Wells half-sings/half-speaks the song’s verses while Tarter adds in "ooh-la-la-la’s" to its choruses.

With "Alarm Is Set," Tarter sings with a slight folkish feel. Like the opener, percussion is once again at a minimum, with just a little bass drum added to its skittering brush sounds.

These two write smart songs and sing them beautifully. If Sunny Side Up were one of
Detroit’s famous motor vehicles, they’d be a top-down convertible, driving a back country road on a sunshiny Sunday afternoon.

May and June have been great months for us on Indie-Music.Com.

In May, we were selected by I-M's staff for the Choice Cuts/Editors Pick of the Month which lists the 10 best songs for your listening pleasure on Indie-Music.com.

We are also currently #1 on the “Singer Songwriter Charts” with Go For A Ride and at #3 for Don't Forget that You Love Me. As a matter of fact, Go For A Ride has been in the TOP TEN List for the last 30 days!

We are quickly moving up the charts on the “All Genres List” and are sitting at #4 today!
