Legendary bluesman Little Walter is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the "sideman" category: "Although Little Walter might not have been the first person to amplify the harmonica, his pioneering use of the microphone helped establish the modern blues harmonica. With a mike clasped to his harp, Little Walter created echoing, moaning, hornlike sounds that redefined the capabilities of the instrument. Walter Jacobs had fourteen top ten hits on the R&B charts in the 1950's including two number 1 songs "Juke" and "My Babe." Little Walter toured and recorded extensively with blues great Muddy Waters in the 1950's. He also recorded with Jimmy Rogers, Memphis Minnie, Otis Rush and Bo Diddley. Little Walter's influence was pervasive, especially in England where the next generation of harp players such as Mick Jagger listened to his records over and over." REST IN PEACE BIG JOE Current mood: sad Category: Music
Body: It is with a heavy heart that I report the passing of Mr. Big Joe Turner. Big Joe was the living embodiment of what it is to be a "Blues Man". An incredible multi-talented musician, vocalist, and all around force, Big Joe has performed with EVERYONE who is anyone in Blues music. I had the honor of playing in his last band. I've had some experiences that I will never forget and always cherish. Big Joe was always a pleasure to work with and knew how to get what he wanted out of his band. I thank him and his wife, Hazel for letting me into the family. We have lost a legend. God bless Big Joe Turner. Roby "Supersax" Edwards
I got this message from Roby this morning. Big Joe will be missed but not forgotten. Fly on brother.....fly on.....
